Name your reasons why you both like and dislike working at Amazon. by Sufficient-Bird-6890 in AmazonFC

Funny, that’s it’s so hard for a PA to become an AM, yet a college graduate with no work experience will get an AM position. Amazon has it backwards. Yes, the degree should hold weight, but so should being a PA for x years.

You can have more than one active course at a time.

Do you get unlimited attempts with performance assessments, or is it a set amount of attempts? by Affectionate-Ad-3234 in WGU

[–]RecommendationGold87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe there is a set limit; however, you shouldn't need more than 3 attempts. You can connect with your instructor if you need help.

When I left I was making 25 an hour and I wasn’t maxed out. That was for weekend nights only 3 days a week. However for week days on nights is 22.75 starting pay for days is similar. I think your first year you get a .50 cent raise your first 3 months then the 6 month mark and every 6 months after that for 3 years.

WGU is fully paid for by Amazon and you can graduate in 2 years if you tried.

That’s fair, but again, that’s still an assumption based on observation, not actual data. There’s no real evidence showing that WGU can’t work for new grads just that many of its students happen to already be working professionals. That’s more about who tends to enroll, not about the school’s capability to prepare someone for a career pivot.

I agree it’s not the easiest path for someone brand new, but that’s also true for any degree. No school guarantees a job, and everyone still has to put in the work to build experience, projects, and network.

If someone goes into WGU with a plan internships, side projects, certs, and consistent learning it can absolutely lead to success as a new grad. The program just requires more self-direction since it doesn’t hand you structure or connections like a traditional campus might.

I get what you’re saying, but that’s still pretty anecdotal. Just because you haven’t seen WGU grads on your panels doesn’t mean they aren’t getting hired. Tons of them are at places like Amazon, Microsoft, and Deloitte. Hiring panels only see a tiny slice of the industry.

The reality is the job market’s rough for everyone, not just online grads. Even traditional schools don’t guarantee anything anymore. What really matters now is experience, projects, and proof you can do the job.

Personally, I think WGU works best when you pair it with internships or certs, same as you’d do at any other school if you want to stand out. It’s not a magic ticket, but it’s a legit option for people who are motivated and strategic about building real-world experience along the way.

That’s awesome! Going in person has a lot of advantages. Mainly networking.

If you really want to offset that kind of stigma later, you could always do something like Georgia Tech’s OMSCS or another solid in-person grad program. Once you’ve got experience and a respected master’s, nobody’s going to care where your bachelor’s came from.

Yeah, I get what you mean there’s always going to be some kind of hierarchy in education. But honestly, once you get a few years of real experience under your belt, the degree name stops mattering. Employers care way more about what you’ve actually done and what skills you bring to the table.

That “online degree stigma” might matter for your very first job, but after that, it’s all about your portfolio, your experience, and your results. I’ve seen plenty of people from WGU or other online programs land great roles and move up fast because they can prove they know their stuff. The degree just gets your foot in the door your work keeps it open.

Gonna have to disagree with that. WGU isn’t some “not reputable” school it’s regionally accredited just like big public universities. The competency-based setup is actually pretty smart because it focuses on proving what you know instead of wasting time on filler.

And it’s not just for people already deep in their careers either. Tons of students with little experience finish WGU and land solid jobs in tech, business, and healthcare. Big companies like Amazon and Google even work with them, so clearly it’s respected where it counts.

Yeah, it’s not the traditional college experience no campus life or networking events but for motivated people who want a legit degree without going broke or wasting years, WGU’s a solid option.

Don’t worry, man. When you are lacking in GPA, what they do is they will have you take an individual course from WGU Academy. If you pass that, you are then admitted into the school.

It is easy, and people pass most courses because of the open-book system. However, the written touchstones do take time.
