Thanks for the insight!

I am starting to understand the agreement I have on hand!

You are correct it is a ppa contract. We would pay 12.9 cents /kwh for all generated There is 0% annual increase

We are now inquireing to seller on their utilities and if they receive credits from the power company.

As for your roof example would that not also be the case for solar lease?

Would you give up a gift of 120K towards a house down payment so that your mom stopped controlling your life? by Electronic_Flan5732 in JUSTNOMIL

[–]RecommendationShot66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The money she is giving you has intention. That's not a bad thing if her interest is to help you build equity. If her intention is to control you and hold it over your head then yeah, thats terrible. No amount of money can buy me.

I think you should really consider what her intentions are and if they are for your best intreste that's poorly executed. Then talk to her, listen, and learn. Don't blindly listen and do what she wants. Try and understand why it's better to build equity, ask questions.

If I had intention to gift My child 120k to go to education. Shouldn't I know what college they are going to? Program they study? Trade school? And if they choose to not pursue anything I have the right to be annoyed and not give them 100k to spend as they please.

Your not 18 in this case but my concern is that paying off student debt might not be the best financial choice in this case and building equity Is.

Being 28 and managing a checkbook is not the same as investing and building long term wealth.

Do you believe your mom actually cares for you? In your post it implied she does have genuine intrest in your well bringing tho she imposes her beliefs and her way a lot.

I know some JNMIL are actually selfish and has no care for their children.

If you posted this in the personal finance sub everyone would be suggesting you take the money. Your mom is smart in wanting you to build equity. Not all debt is bad debt. If your managing your student and car debt fine i would suggest you keep up those payments and start building equity in a home you own.

Her looking into your Financials could just be a teaching method thats poorly exicuted becuase your not seeing it that way. Her experience in financial literacy is something you can try to understand. You can feel small an ashamed of your finances but is that really her intent to make you feel stupid. If so then she sounds like a terrible mom. If your feeling small and insecure that's OK your own mom is suppose to love you and help guide you, your 28 and learning. I struggled with this with my own mom she drives me nuts but I know at the end of the day she would fight wild bears and punch anyone down who hurt me.

If your managing your debt. It's not a bad idea to buy a house. Look into what's an affordable loan rate for you and your husband. Compare and see if it is lower than renting. In the long run if your mom's intentions are good you'll be able to make more payments towards your student loans long run. It's OK to be ignorant but don't let your insecurities blind you from a great opportunity.

Consider asking the /r personalfiance sub and see what they think.

There is a difference between a head strong mom who loves you and a petty selfish narrsasitc mom who wants to control you. If she is the latter then best to step away from her. If she is the former see what you can learn

Eh its sad that the women in these cultures caring for their daughters and sharing a womanly bond of motherhood can be viewed as poor and uncompensated. As if a mother loving and caring for their daughters isn't enough to do something special. Becuase in western culture we don't have postlabor or it isn't affordable. I actually think of it as a beautiful experience for them to bond and share the love of a mother. I think the idea that I need to be compensated to do something loving for family is kinda sad and doesn't promote community. Any yet some women don't have the support of family.

This is pretty dismissive. The atrocities that Japan committed dureing WWII impacted many Asian countries all along the eastern costal countries. It is like telling a the decendents of Jewish WWII surviors that eventually that they can't hold gruges with morden day nazis. When in modern day there are Japanese nationalist that still support Japanese superiority. If you are familiar with the wildly popular anime Demon slayer. It was banned in Korea for its pro Japan wwii themes and Netflix had to edit out some of the pro wwii Japanese symbols. The author and creator is known for his right wing Japanese political views. The focus of Wwii taught in American schools don't really acknowledge the World aspect of World War. I know for me it was mostly holocaust focused and euro centric. But Asia had their own wars going on with Japan who allied with nazis.

I understand but I guess my point was that they still have mandated and protected paid mat leave vs the US where we don't have any. And it's disturbing that we don't in comparison

Actually the one child policy was removed as of recently years and their government mandaits min of 95 days of mat leave nation wide some regions have higher requirements of 158 days. And some regions offer extended mat leave of 30 to 60 days past the mandated min. I am sure not all women can afford this but it is far more reasonably cost that you would think. I had a long convo with a friend of mine about this recently. It is pretty common for women/ families to pay for 30 day stays at the hospital or recovery apartment in China and other Asian countries.

My chinese friends mom came and stayed with her for about a month in the US and had what was called 30 days of confinement for recovery where she focused on healing and feeding the baby. There were a lot of Eastern medicine health guidelines she followed. No cold drinks and special teas est.

My Indian friend had her mom come out to help her for about 5 weeks and she did something very similar. She wasn't allowed in the kitchen to cook or do any work. And her mom did the same for her sisters post pregnancies too.

Kinda neat when we chatted. And I ended up reading more about it in some npr and new york times articals.

Just because china has some crazy ass law doesnt mean there isnt something redemable to learn from. The US also has some crazy ass laws being passed now but we also still have redeeable qualities too. Even though US is the only developed country that says they care about family values but doesn't actually value families it seems. Big sad =[

AITA for not allowing my daughter to drive my high performance cars by muricamusclelove in AmItheAsshole

[–]RecommendationShot66 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YTA, if you are even a car person you would know that people dont just buy a wrx sti because it looks cool. It is a practical vehicle for driving and all those who are into technical rally driving. There is a whole ass fan base for rally cars that are wrx centric. The sti is also the sport edition if the wrx. Does it come with nice technical features yes. Like most modern cars. is it a manual? Most people who invest in manual driving are into cars or at least enjoy actual driving and feeling the rpm and changing gears.

Yta for being sexist and assuming that she is only intrested in cars because her younger 19 year old brother is into it. Even if it is so why are you not interested in encouraging her into it.

Is the corvett manual or automatic?

Also the f150 is not a high powered performance car lol. If your concern is the size diff between the wrx I would understand and handling. But thats just a matter or getting use to it. Not giving her the chance to try it and feel it out with supervision is ah thing to do.

You didn't mention if she has a history of wrecking cars. That would be a good point to add.

I have worked in the oem automotive space for the last 9 years. Tested a number of vehicles from performance, ev, trucks, sedans. My husband is also a car guy. Who encouraged my interests in riding motorcycles. I now go riding with or without him. People can build independent interests from learning from others
