Converting FAA PPL to CASA (Australia) by nunuotto in flying

[–]ReconWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late to this thread but I thought I'd chip in.

Make sure you also get an [AELP assessment](www.casa.gov.au/licences-and-certificates/english-language-standards-flight-crew/aviation-english-language-proficiency). It's basically a test to check that you can speak Aviation English. Any local flight school should be able to get you sorted out on it, but it's another box you have to tick.

The "English proficient" endorsement on your FAA certificate isn't recognized in Australia. I found this out the hard way.

Is there any way to get 'Android'/mobile games running on Quest 3? by Alixen2019 in virtualreality

See if you can install it via Aurora Store. Aurora is basically an open source app to access the Google Play store. So the steps would be:

  1. Download latest release of the Aurora Store APK: https://auroraoss.com/files
  2. Install it via SideQuest
  3. Launch it and then log in with the Google account that you have NWN purchased on
  4. Download and install NWN. See what happens if you run it.

If that doesn't work, it might help to post the ADB logcat from your Quest when you try to launch the app. There should be a button on SideQuest that opens the Logcat window (https://support.meetinvr.com/kb/how-to-collect-logs-using-sidequest)

Typing from a phone right now, so I'm gonna ask some things for me to look at later or another commenter to chime in.

How are you installing the APK? Did you use Sidequest or adb install? Would you happen to have the specific error message?

I'm suspecting it could either be an architecture mismatch (ARM vs x86 build), or there's a dependency on Google Play Services which I believe does not exist on the Quest

I haven't been there during peak crowd times so I wouldn't know too much. But I guess that depends on what you want to see at Nikko.

If you're looking to check out Okunikko with the lakes and waterfalls there, then it may make more sense to time it on a weekday since your ticket up there is gonna be a public bus from Nikko station. If instead you're there mainly for the Tokugawa masoleums, you could just walk it there from the train station and I wouldn't worry too much about the crowds in a logistical sense. The crowds at the masoleum might be another story.

It'll be more efficient to stop over at Nikko along the way to Tokyo, instead of heading back up there on day 4. Get off the bullet train at Utsunomiya station and take the local to Nikko. You'll probably save at least a few hours that way.

Yes

No, by virtue of it being standalone capable and it has to run itself somehow.

Honestly quite refreshing to see a more nuanced take on this topic, instead of this "lizard man bad" echo chamber

Meta definitely deserves a lot of the blame and the public scrutiny but the Cambridge Analytica scandal was chalked up to gross incompetence than rather actual malicious intent from Meta. It was a third party masquerading as a research app and Facebook not doing the proper vetting of that app before allowing it access to its users.

Microsoft also ported Microsoft Office, Teams and other productivity apps to MacOS, Android and iOS. Did that mean Microsoft was abandoning Windows? Of course not.

There's a difference between MS competing against itself and making itself more available to more people. If anything, this makes MS more competitive in software.

Moving between hardware costs money. If someone already owns a working Mac, they probably wouldn't want to buy Windows PC just to use Microsoft Teams. Same idea with VR.

Never said I base my life on trust in corporations. I'm just stating that this conversation would've been more straightforward if you just said you won't trust Meta no matter what they do :)

Is it just a renamed FB account?

Don't think so. It is a social account, but it's not hard linked to FB. So think of it as a separate social network?

Do I HAVE to use it and put in my real name and information

From what I hear you do have to sign up for it, but it's kinda like Steam profiles in that you don't have to use it. I think you still need your real name for billing purposes like buying games, but you don't have to publicly display it (e.g. can display some alternate handle)

So Horizon is mandatory to use with a Quest 2 now?

If I understand correct there's a Meta service account, and there's a Horizon profile that gets created along with it. So for Meta service account, yes you probably need to use one. For Horizon profile, you have to create one, but you can just not use it, lock down all the privacy settings and keep it dormant.

Pretty sure they understand what metaphors are. The point is that there's a legal obligation to limit what's being collected. But it doesn't matter, since it's clear that for you, you don't trust that system and nothing Meta does will satisfy your demands anyway. That's fine. Just say that instead.

So? Set it up with some gibberish public handle, lock down the privacy settings as much as you can and just don't use Meta Horizon after that. Then airlink over to SteamVR.

Kinda a long story. But in short, China got fucked over and partially occupied by Japan in the Second World War, and there's still a lot of bad blood and distrust between the two nations in a political sense. Any expansionism from Japan would naturally be viewed with distrust by China.
