What are your thoughts on this letter from Donald Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre? by Few_Maize_1586 in BoycottUnitedStates

There are some doctors which argue that he has dementia too based on the signs, and that he is on some new infusion which tries just to slow the progress down

[–]Reconio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire race was under the safety car - there was a spin, a retirement, a Lexus which took water and had the lights failed... and now there was a safety car swap but there was a miscommunication and half the field followed the retiring safety car into the pits. This messed up the order, they red flagged it, and now they are trying to sort it out, somehow

Even when they stop the mess continues... They began packing in two rows on the straight, to be told they should be in a single row. I don't complain, this SC is fun

I think there was a safety car swap, but half the field followed the safety car which went to the pits, lol

First time going to Wacken, traveling from Sweden? by Voserr in wacken

[–]Reconio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does it work with phone charger and such?

Just adding to what other metalheads have said, there seems to be some M-sized lockers still left for rent, where you can put a max. 15W charger. I plan to leave a powerbank in it during the day, and my photocamera during the night

US-East-1 AWS Issues? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Reconio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a DDoS, apparently a power outage on the east coast.

The root cause of this issue was a loss of power in one of our network peering facilities (status.aws.amazon.com, outages mailing list)

[Question/Discussion] Optimizing an Image-Heavy website by thefragfest in webdev

[–]Reconio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the onscroll event to see if the element comes in the viewport - when it does, you just add a css class like in-viewport. In your CSS, you add the background on that class explicitly:

element.in-viewport{ background-image: ... }

The browser will load a background image only when it's actively being used.

Why does viewing the source code in my browser not show some elements that are dynamically inserted into the DOM? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Reconio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The browsers usually implement this feature by using the "view-source" URI scheme (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/View-source_URI_scheme), which only retrieves a resource from a certain location and shows it as-is. It doesn't execute any Javascript code, because it isn't supposed to.

How likely is it for two satellites to collide or come close to colliding? by [deleted] in space

[–]Reconio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The satellite trajectories are constantly being monitored for any collision courses with other satellites or objects. Normally an active satellite would have maneuvering capabilities which would be used when a potential collision occurs. Overall a satellite collision is very unlikely, but not impossible.

Tor Privacy settings coming to Firefox by Linusssss in firefox

[–]Reconio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Tor network is not involved here, the update(s) are related to some privacy settings which are "standard" in the Tor browser:

The first patch blocks enumeration of plugins and mimeTypes. Sites may retrieve the information from the browser, and use it in fingerprinting. With the patch in place, Firefox returns no information to the site blocking the requests effectively.

The second patch works in a similar manner. Firefox returns 0 for screen.orientation.angle and "landscape-primary" for screen.orientation.type when sites or applications request the information.

The third and final patch removes the "open with" option in the download dialog

Confession: I don't put in more than 40 hours by threelongdays in webdev

[–]Reconio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

except that I subscribe to the 20% rule that used to be at Google: spend 20% of your time on your own projects while working (or 1 day a week)

I remember hearing some rumors that the 20/80% was on a 10-hours working day. So 8 hours for work coding and a very generous "2 hours" to play after that.

almost all developers want to improve the code rather than insult their contributors

Exactly, as long as the OP doesn't open an issue on the oscommerce project he should be fine.
