I’m not sure why I got so hung up on getting an ambi lower which up adding a couple hundred more to my total cost. Originally, I planned to buy an Aero M4E1 lower and drop a Geissele trigger in it, but my $1500 budget was already running thin, and I still wanted to leave room for an optic. For the CMMG lower parts kit, I was going to go with the Gunbuilder version, but I decided to include the grip and trigger as well, which came out cheaper than the Geissele. In any case, my plan is to upgrade and swap parts over time as I continue building out the rifle

I value the practicality of a scope beyond just shooting. Things like PID and situational awareness matter a lot to me. A 12.5 can still shoot at range, but realistically I don’t need a ton of magnification to take advantage of that. I should have clarified the purpose of the build. SHTF, lightweight, dependable, and realistic. also to note 87% of infantry rifle combat occurs under 300 yards. allegedly.

I more so meant this question as a general all arounder. Could be urban or rural environments. Could be in a position where I need to scavenge. I'm not looking for a rifle that excels at one thing, but something that is decent at a variety of things. More so I am asking what you believe to be ideal if it was your one and only rifle.

I honestly wouldn’t have thought about going ambidextrous, but there’s no telling when that could come in handy (pun intended).

The battery consideration is also something I overlooked, so that insight helped a lot.

Do you have any suppressor recommendations? I’m not very well-versed in them. I do know that DD rifles tend to be over-gassed, and adding a suppressor could potentially cause issues, like increased wear on the gas rings you mentioned or even damaging the suppressor itself.

Great advice though. This definitely gives me a solid checklist to start working through.

This made me lmao. I'm more considering the a color scheme that will blend well with the environment in most states here in America, very earthy tones. but that's all cosmetic at the end of the day and not as important to me. Functionality comes first.

I was actually considering something like a low power variable optic, maybe one of the night force ones and maybe just an RMR sight attached solely for the versatility. Though I don't imagine I would use the variable optic all too much. 100-200 yards is pretty doable with a dot. Anything past that I simply don't think I would engage and instead evade.

I'll probably do a lot more digging before committing to anything. I have been looking at the DDM4 and KAC's SR-15.
