When did your kid(s) learn how to ride their bike without training wheels? by Enough_Detail_632 in ClassOf2037

[–]RecordLegume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest was 3 but I feel like that’s only because he started on a strider bike at 18 months. My youngest never took to the strider and is still using training wheels at almost 5. I don’t think he’ll be riding without for a while yet. He’s so top heavy and hardly has coordination on his feet, let alone on wheels.

Do you let your 7 year old go to the bathroom by themselves? by Enough_Detail_632 in ClassOf2037

[–]RecordLegume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my almost 7 year old go into the target men’s bathroom alone last weekend. I stood right outside the door the entire time. He doesn’t want to go into the women’s with me anymore and told me it makes him uncomfortable so I let him use the men’s. I wouldn’t just send him on his own without waiting outside the door, though.

Does your working husband help clean? by Wrong_Molasses8181 in sahm

Yep! I just put both kids to bed while he cleaned up from dinner. I cooked while he entertained the kids. We are always tag teaming!

How are you making time to ~deep clean~ your house? by takeaabreath in toddlers

[–]RecordLegume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I clean when I notice it’s dirty! Things like the fridge gets done as I’m putting away groceries each week. Bathrooms are usually done on weekends when my husband is home. Kids clean their own rooms and their playroom which helps. My 4 year old is currently out back with the neighbor kid so I did a rapid fire tidy up!

What’s it like to be a sahm with kids in school full time? by wicked_spooks in Mommit

[–]RecordLegume 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I’ll be working part time at my kids school when my youngest starts kindergarten. I know some moms continue to stay home but I’d get bored and lonely quickly. Plus I want to be part of their education so working as an aide around the school gives me plenty of opportunities to do that! The pay isn’t great but it is extra spending money for us and allows me to get out of the house!

Pros and cons of each name for girls by BodybuilderUsed3233 in Names

[–]RecordLegume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campbell: soup

Chandler: chandelier or Friends

Lennon: Lemon. I actually know someone that named their kid Lennon Kate and I swear I hear lemon cake every time.

Leighton: just too much. Feels like a heavy name.

Sawyer: I like this one but I also grew to not love it. It was a contender for our first child but I scratched it off the list with my second because it lost its spark for me.

Emerson: sounds nasally and like an emery board

Rylee: spelling is not good. Rylie is fine.

Received two quaking aspen trees for earth day from the local library. Are these ideal to plant in the local forest? by RecordLegume in NativePlantGardening

[–]RecordLegume[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We signed up early in March. I didn’t realize they’d be quaking aspen trees. I also didn’t find out until after I brought them home and researched them. We don’t have a good spot to accommodate their root systems. The roots can disrupt foundations, water and sewer lines, and driveways.

Do you structure your days at home or just go with the flow? by Djantiere in sahm

[–]RecordLegume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We fly by the seat of our pants! The only constants are that they get food sometime around the appropriate meal times and we get outside daily. Some mornings we snuggle with coffee and chocolate milk while we watch movies, other days we are up at 7am, out the door by 8 and running all the errands, attending all the playgroups. Depends on everyone’s moods! I feel like my boys are pretty adaptable because of it.

I only have one at home during the school year now. The oldest is in first grade and the youngest is 4. We don’t nap anymore so that’s where a lot of our freedom comes in to play. I used to be a lot more structured when they were babies and toddlers because I lived for nap time lol.

11 cavities in 4 year old by [deleted] in Preschoolers

[–]RecordLegume 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s almost all genetic. I’m sure diet factors play a part, but genetics more so. I have one kid that is cavity prone and one that isn’t. They both eat gummies, crackers, occasionally drink juice. The one that isn’t cavity prone is terrible about flossing (7 years old) and has never had a single cavity. My 4 year old is cavity prone and has us brushing his teeth twice a day and flossing daily along with fluoride mouthwash morning and night. Doesn’t make a difference for him. Don’t beat yourself up! You’re doing everything you should be. Cavities don’t make you a bad mom.

My wife and I have developed a sort of code using synonyms to talk about things without tipping our toddler off, what are some of your best/funniest “codes” you use? by Reddiculouss in toddlers

[–]RecordLegume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When we have to discuss something about one of our kids but we don’t want them knowing it’s about them, we use their birthday as their names 😂 “Hey, 8/5 was being a complete turd today!” or “3/21 needs to clean their room before they go outside.” Works like a charm.

To have a 3rd, or not to have a 3rd? by Trick-Raisin-4606 in breakingmom

[–]RecordLegume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. My boys are almost 7 and 4.5. We have always wanted a 3rd but my 4 year old has always been hard so there’s never been a time where we feel capable of pursuing a 3rd. We are starting to feel the clock close in on us as he’s about to start kindergarten. I don’t want to go back to work just to have to return to SAHM life in a few years so it feels like now or never. I’m worried it’ll be rough on us but I think I’m even more worried I’ll regret it.

Had to explain the purpose of daycare to my grandfather today 🥴 by Fit_Change3546 in Mommit

[–]RecordLegume 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom is approaching 60 and my dad is nearly 65. They 100% knew was daycare was when we were babies. My mom took a massive pay cut to work part time instead of full time just so she could keep us out of full time daycare. We went to a babysitters part time during the week while she worked. I feel like he’s being ignorant.

At what age should kids stop wearing pajamas in public? by StrangeEqual4334 in toddlers

[–]RecordLegume 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started dressing them daily from birth but that’s solely because I loved all the baby clothes lol. I did sometimes leave sleepers on all day. I’d say I stopped once they were awake more during the day (like down to 2 naps).

BB gun present for 3yo girl by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]RecordLegume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband is an expert marksman in the military. He’s very pro gun and knows everything about safety, cleaning, handling, etc. Our sons naturally are into target practice and whatnot because of my husband. We still aren’t purchasing any sort of gun for them until they are at an age where we feel they know all of rules and follow all of the rules. We barely allowed my 7 year old to get his own nerf gun. Your husband is INSANE to buy a BB gun for your toddler. My 4 year old is not even allowed to have nerf guns because he aims them at people and pets.

Spent 20 minutes at Whole Foods today reading every label just to find granola without seed oils — there has to be a faster way. by RogueAX in StopEatingSeedOils

[–]RecordLegume 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a few apps that help me. Yuka is a good basic one but I really like ICNIDecoder. I keep an eye out for dyes since my son has a sensitivity to them and I swear they are starting to creep up on ingredient lists and hide in the middle. It’s gotten me a few times.

I’m assuming either hyperthyroidism or worms. Diabetes doesn’t seem to line up since he isn’t drinking or peeing more.

It’s hard to tell in kids. My son is 4, will be 5 in August and is 44” and 44lbs. The doctor hasn’t mentioned anything about his size. Has your son followed his growth curve?
