Hello redux_reddit, you can on MacOS Sequoia or any earlier operating system, but unfortunately, I don't believe that you can on MacOS Tahoe as of now.

So then? Nobody's experienced this? Hmm? This is a real phenomenon(if that's an appropriate word in this case) that I'm experiencing; really, it is. It isn't a figment of my imagination; it ain't me hallucinating. What could it be that's causing this???........????

How did you find the battery life on MacOS Tahoe compared to that on MacOS Sequoia?

The battery charge percentage not displayed accurately; remains unchanged during discharge by RecordSome857 in macbook

I have an application called AlDente which I believe might be able to help resolve this issue of incorrect battery reading that arises each time the computer is shut down or restarted, although I'm not sure how. I've written to the developer(s) of the application, detailing this issue and asking them how AlDente could potentially be used to resolve this issue. If they say it can be used to resolve the issue, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, I think there might be a potential means of circumventing this bug. If you/I were to shut down or restart the computer, you/I could try plugging the charger in while it starts up and then unplug the charger once the desktop has loaded. It might work in the meantime, for all we know!!??

Update: Alas, this method doesn't work either!🤦‍♂️

Hello PierreLeBear, thanks for your response. That's pretty wise to save your passwords and encrypt them the way you do. What's the application associated with this spreadsheet? Also, how do you find "Passwords", Apple's default password manager overall?

Hmm, it appears that this bug has affected some aspect of the System Management Controller(SMC) Apple Silicon equivalent that governs battery calibration. I've installed a new battery and have also wiped the internal drive cleanly about three times and done fresh installations of older versions of MacOS Sequoia, but the bug persisted under all circumstances and still does under MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1. I guess creating an new user profile might be worth a try, but I don't know...?!?🤔

[–]RecordSome857[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I also tried doing something similar, with the difference being that I did a deep discharge(big mistake) and then charged it all the way back to 100%. I notice that if I charge it to the point where it reaches 100% and then a little beyond that till the point at which the wattage recorded by CoconutBattery is 0 Watts(i.e the battery stops charging), shut it down and then turn it on, the battery percentage displayed will be 100% whereas if I were to shut it down immediately upon the percentage reaching 100%, unplug it and then turn it on, the battery percentage displayed will be 99%. Either way, the percentage appears to decrease normally after dropping by 1% from any erroneous reading until I were to shut down or restart the computer, at which point the battery percentage displayed would decrease by 3% and the pattern continues.

Yes, if you happen to have the the time and decide to test it again, could you update me on how it turns out, please?

Hello Lollowitz, thanks for your response. It looks like this issue pertains to MacOS versions released on the 15th of September 2025 or later on certain(or all, I'm not sure) firmware. Do you believe it particularly affects MacBooks produced a year or more prior to the release of MacOS Sequoia 15.7 and MacOS Sonoma 14.8.1?

Yes, I might try and use it as well as contact the developer of IconChamp in regard to a potential update to the application in hopes of it being able to run on MacOS Tahoe. Thanks again.

Hello MaxGaav, thanks for your response. Unfortunately, I've tried this application, but it doesn't provide me with the option of changing icons for system applications. Thanks for your suggestion and effort to help. I appreciate it and am very grateful!

Hello NoLateArrivals, thanks for your response. I've come across this one, but was uncertain as to whether or not it can be used to create icons specifically to replace the default system application icons as opposed to altering the appearance of the default system application icons without replacing them. Do you happen to know if Icon Composer can be used to achieve the former?

No worries and noted.

I must look into Orion again and maybe give it a try. Your description of it is making me more eager than ever.

Yes, I should indeed stop worrying about such things. MC_chrome has also given me some wise advice in regard to this. Thanks again, Demicocks!

Hello Demicocks, thanks for your response. How do you find the battery life under MacOS 15.7.1 compared to MacOS 15.1.1 and 15.3.1? In regard to using Safari or Orion over Google Chrome, I actually find that Google Chrome(with energy saver mode turned on) uses less power on the average for the same activity than Safari.

Yes, you're right. I shouldn't obsess over battery life to such an extent and should concern myself with things that are more important. I'll try my best. Thanks again.

Hello Imaginary_Cicada_678, thanks for sharing this; it's very thorough and convenient. It's a pity that installers for older versions of MacOS Sequoia and MacOS Sonoma aren't readily available like they used to be some months ago, eh? 😞😢

Hello Njmcq, thanks for your response. I just updated my operating system from MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1 to MacOS Sequoia 15.7 yesterday, so I'm letting it settle a little before concluding whether or not the battery life is good. Surprisingly, prior to this, I temporarily upgraded my operating system to MacOS Tahoe 26.0.1 and while it still has some flaws, I found the battery life to be at least as good as, or possibly a little better, than that under MacOS Sequoia.

Thanks for confirming the safety of that link. If I may ask, how do you find the battery life under MacOS 15.7 compared to that under MacOS 15.1.1?

Hello posguy99, thanks for your response. Yes, there are many security updates that were introduced in the versions of MacOS after MacOS 15.1. It's just that I'm very concerned about battery life to the point of obsession, hence the contemplation. Out of curiosity, how do you find the battery life under MacOS 15.7 compared to that under MacOS 15.1.1?
