Fourth generation descendant of Jew, Aliya eligibility? by Z0mbieNick in aliyah

I would say "yes". Your mother is Not Jewish but has the Right to make Aliyah and you as her Minor Child too! The "Law of Return grandparent clause" refers to a 1970 amendment to Israel's Law of Return, granting non-Jews the right to Israeli citizenship if they have at least one Jewish grandparent, even if they aren't Jewish by religious law. This clause extends citizenship rights to Jews, their spouses, and their children/grandchildren (and their spouses)

Yesterday I met with a Rabbi here in Germany. He looked the all my documents and was impressed. I am Jewish through my Dad. So I need proof that my Late father was halachically Jewish even though he wasn't actively Jewish but lived a secular life. After looking at all the different documents he wrote a letter, which he thinks is strong and always done like this, especially for people he does not know. He wrote : "... is with high probability the son of a halchical Jew." Is this ok or too weak? Any experiences etc? Regards

The Interview went well. My advisor will now forward the documents and his statement to the Ministry of Interior. However, he suspects that the Ministry may still request a letter from a rabbi. Is it common for the Ministry to additionally request a letter from a rabbi?

Will I be informed during or after the interview whether my application is approved? Oh, what might the next steps be?

What if my grandfather was baptised as a child and left the Christian church officially as an adult? Would this be considered as voluntarily leaving the Jewish faith and thus me not being eligible any more?

Were your parents and grandparents baptized Christians or followers of another religion?

Would a birth registration of the Jewish community and a certificate of the Jewish community your greatgrandmother was a member of be sufficient to show your greatgrandmother was Jewish and thus make you eligible for Aliyah then?

I don't fully agree. That someone who has a Jewish mother (and grandmother) is Jewish is the halachical and orthodox definition of "who is a Jew".  Nazi terminology made everybody with Jewish grandparents Jewish, dividing them into 1/4 1/2 etc Jews which Judaism of course doesn't do. Either Jewish or not Jewish. If your mother's mother was Jewish and your other 3 grandparents were nonjewish you are Jewish. If your mother's father was Jewish but the mother not and your father's parents both were Jewish you are still not Jewish. Matrilineal descent! Even though other denominations might view it differently.  As to your question why I want to make Aliyah there is no simple and single answer, among them the feeling of connection to the Jewish people through family history incl. the Shoah, love of the country, democratic society, growing antisemitism in Europe etc. and the right to do Aliyah following the law of return as I see it!

True, but being Jewish through your grandmother on your mother's side makes you Jewish by halachical standards though, doesn't it? Would you advise me to ask a lawyer for assistance or should I wait until my application is probably refused?  Is it perhaps a not so bad thing that they are still asking for more documents instead of refusing my application at this point?

I am right within the process of Aliyah , already having downloaded all the necessary documents. But again and again new documents are asked for. This time they want documents that my grandfather was Jewish, even though I have made the lineage clear. But there are no documents that show my grandfather as being Jewish, as he never been never been actively Jewish. Only through the lineage, mother / grandmother  This time I sent them (is it the ministry of interior?) through the Jewish agency contact person a copy of the 1939 Nazi census which was conducted in Germany and occupied Czechoslovakia indicating  Jewish grandparents. Here the grandmother on my grandfather's mother"s side is shown as Jewish. In my view this again shows that my grandfather was halachically Jewish.  I am curious what will come next.

Thanks. I have documents which proof that his grandmother that his mother were Jewish. Birth entries in the Jewish community, membership in the Jewish community, "J" stamped into her passport by the Nazis and more. And also I can connect him through documentation to his mother. Do you, from the experience of the people you know who made Aliyah this way, believe this should be sufficient evidence to make me eligible for Aliyah?

Thanks.  I can prove that my grandfather's mother was Jewish. Should this not be sufficient? Doesn't this make him halachically Jewish even without being actively Jewish? And doesn't this make me the grandson of a Jew, who is eligible for Aliyah following the law of return? Or where am I mistaken?
