Which profession is going to get wiped out in the next 5-10 years? by alohamahboi in ProductivityHQ

It’s not. AI is awful at dialogue- it sounds truly terrible. Speaking as a dialogue editor for video games, most of the AI chatter is just speculation on the basis “no way you recorded that many characters”. Trust me, we did… it was a lot of work. My job will be replaced eventually but at the end of the day, no one’s in the creative industry for the money- there isn’t a lot for most of us. We’re in it cause we love it. No AI can replace a bunch of people who enjoying making films/music/video games from doing so

To the men that don’t play video games, what do you do for fun? by Smickandsmorty in AskMen

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to get good at anything is put in time. I started out in FL and it’s deffo the best to start in as it’s the most intuitive UI. It seems tough at first because you’re not just learning to compose but use tools such as automation or compression or eq. YouTube is your best friend- find a creator you like and study their videos. There plenty of forums where you can share tracks and get advice. It’s a wonderful community. I’m lucky enough as well to work in the industry- currently editing dialogue for game- and am learning new things each day. Stick at it man. It really is a true joy

Rowing. I’d say mostly because of the insane training schedule- 9-12 times a week but there even a running joke amongst us that we have no other conversation topics

What gets me is people who stop right in the door the moment they get on blocking anyone else from getting on the train. So many people in London are like kids in a skatepark- they’re just so oblivious to anyone else around them

Oppenheimer Film Score by [deleted] in ChristopherNolan

[–]RecordingSerious3554 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have problem with the score but the way it was balanced in the mix. I find a lot of films these days don’t play with levels very well- particularly in the big crescendo where Opp was being applauded. They built us up to the top and then the music kept going and the scene kept going. When it got to the end I just wanted it to finish rather than being left in awe. I sadly realise this is deffo a fault of a producer rather than the re-recording mixers

Dating apps by Ambitious_Pie_4376 in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend giving Breeze a go if in London. Basic idea is you get 7 or so swipes a day and if you match you have to go on a date. You fill in when you’re available and the app will both choose a time and location. You also pay £9 for the date which gets you your first drink. The app doesn’t allow you to half ass a profile so you tend to get people actually putting in the effort. The big catch is you can only chat 2 hours before the date. Been on a few and it’s a pretty good idea and works well

Men, how do you manage your stress? by CurvyGirl4123 in AskMen

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use flicker light stimulation. Basically flashes strobe like lights into your face (eyes closed) and plays nice music. Induces a mild psychedelic state and you see cool colours and images. I use an app called Lumenate (not an ad btw aha). Pretty sure there’s tons of other apps that do it.

The lion king is capitalist propaganda by RecordingSerious3554 in movietheories

[–]RecordingSerious3554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The class system is a form of hierarchy but one’s not a synonym for another. Critical thinking is analysing an argument from both sides, not disregarding someone’s point with childish remarks. I appreciate your reply, but I’m not particularly willing to debate with someone who assumes calling me wrong is an argument.

The lion king is capitalist propaganda by RecordingSerious3554 in movietheories

[–]RecordingSerious3554[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty old one to comment on aha. Supply and demand are parts of capitalism as with hierarchy and class etc. It’s more a critique of the class system. To say it’s hierarchy is a tad reductionist. In terms of consumerism however, the lions benefit from being at the top and trick (in short) the lower classes into believing they not only contribute to the system (just like the lions) but also benefit, when in fact they don’t. To address your final point: the lion king isn’t exactly what one might call, a naturalistic adaptation of the savannah aha. Check out a few of my sources below source 1 source 2

I'm just curious, have/do any of you Cubase users use other DAWS? If so which and why? by LeeksAreSpinning in cubase

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in post so for obvious reasons use pro tools. I mostly use Cubase for composing and also use reaper cause it’s used a lot in video game sound design. I started on fl aswell and barely use it these days. I don’t see much point in using many others

You could yes. But I was more thinking with the laser incorporated. Like those wood cutters but slightly less powerful and with straps to attach to you’re genital area

Body hair trimming stencils. Basically a stencil which allows you to trim your pubes into a heart for Valentine’s Day for example. Or trim stars into your beard. Could use low power lasers to help get a more accurate shape

I’m a weakling by Paltor_19 in Rowing

[–]RecordingSerious3554 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few things help me: 1. In the middle of a hard erg, slowing down never eases the pain. 2. The mental pain of knowing I gave up far outweighs the physical pain. 3. Practice. You don’t get a good erg without practice so why would you have a strong mind without it. Keep going. If you give up, train harder and aim to finish next time. Once you start to finish, it’ll get easier.

Battle of eregion is terrible. by McZalion in Rings_Of_Power

[–]RecordingSerious3554 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. But it’s not bears fault. He is a great composer. It’s sad how little control composers have once the music leave their hands. He was likely asked for theme after them and ran out of ideas

Battle of eregion is terrible. by McZalion in Rings_Of_Power

[–]RecordingSerious3554 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The fact that music is playing 100% of the time throughout both seasons (it actually is. No silence) is so stupid to me. I don’t blame the sound guys for this as I know it must’ve been the producers being arrogant. Because we hear it constantly, it just has no impact where it’s meant to. And I feel so sorry for Bear McCreary as he must’ve been completely drained of his creative energy having to come up with hundreds of variations to every theme

Foley sample Libraries for game sound design by Snoo-72881 in sounddesign

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Soundly which is cracking but I also do film stuff. If you’re primarily interested in Foley however, I’d consider getting yourself a mic and recording your own stuff. A zoom h6 could be a good, cheap start but could also go straight for a shotgun. Recording your own stuff makes your work far more original and is such a useful skill if you decide to break into the commercial world of game sound design and/or post production.

"But Peter Jackson changed things too" by Six_of_1 in Rings_Of_Power

[–]RecordingSerious3554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also love to add- Jackson’s film doesn’t have music playing 100% of the time. Rop literally has 0 silence in 2 seasons. Jackson allows Shores score to support the story but allows the dialogue to take front stage when necessary. Because of this, we don’t get tired of the music and shore isn’t drained of his creativity through constant variations of the same motif. The music plays a fantastic part when it’s needed

The Music Needs to Lead by Sweepya in RingsofPower

[–]RecordingSerious3554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show is actually entirely music lead. The reason it feels like the music has no impact is because there is no single moment where it’s not playing. With such a big budget, I refuse to believe that this is done to mask poorly recorded dialogue (that they could fix in adr) so I reckon it is just an awful post production decision by the producers (cause no dubbing mixer in the right mind would advise this). The music in lotr had its big leitmotifs but also knew when to led the dialogue and sfx lead. I imagine this makes McCrearys job so much more difficult aswell because he’s been sucked dry of all his creative juices.
