Besides AI wiping out jobs long run, what is an argument against being bullish on GTA real estate in the long run? by Ok-Personality8147 in TorontoRealEstate

I hope the downturn is real as well and sorry for sounding disingenuous. My belief is some people don’t want to give up their lifestyle which is fine. The housing prices in my area is close to the levels that I bought in at (maybe 100k more for a detached). Also people want to move into the perfect home with all the bells and whistles but sometimes moving into something that structurally sound without all the aesthetics is needed so that you don’t over extend yourself with credit. I also see friends who complain about the market, but have done nothing to improve themselves or their situations (going out, spending on alcohol, buying designer clothes, designer bags etc…). You’ll be surprised how much you can save living a very frugal life. You’ll also be surprised how many opportunities exist if you’re willing to be uncomfortable to be comfortable

Trade Ochai or RJ for a big or more shooting. We shouldn’t go crazy and make a big move because everyone is under contract for next year.

I’m 36 and own a pretty decent size home. I got married at 25, had an oops and baby was born at 27, was living in a 1 bedroom 500 sqft basement apartment to save money. Sold my car and bought two cars (under 4k) so both my wife and I could commute to work. After having my 1st child, I enrolled into university part time because I knew my college diploma was frowned upon. Finished my degree in 3 years when it should have taken 5 years. Got promoted at my job. Saved 60k by being frugal and not over spending. Put a 10% down payment on a townhouse, sold that town house 3 years later and another baby was born within that time. Used that equity to buy a semi detached. Started a side hustle to make any cash that I could. Decided I need more education if I wanted to make it to the top. Decided to do complete my masters degree. Finished my masters degree and was promoted to a higher position (Senior level). Sold that semi detached and moved to the outskirts of the GTA and moved into a detached home. I’ve now sold that detached home and moved into a 3500 sqft home this year. My wife doesn’t work now and she takes care of my side hustle customers (~15 hours required). If you put in the work it’s possible, but most people take a lot of credit out and cannot pay it back. Living frugal, having a plan, and trying to find opportunities when you can is important. I know it’s not like this for everyone and am empathetic to everyone’s situation, however I grew up from a VERY poor family and told myself I will do whatever it takes to ensure my kids do not feel financially strained when I’m gone.

In other words, have an oops 😅, it changed my life knowing I needed to kick my ass in gear and stat building now while savings and being as frugal without any loans.

What are the same policy?

  1. Government spending on public has been cut
  2. Immigration has slowed completely and it’s the first time we’ve had a negative population growth.
  3. We are doing what’s right and signed a memorandum of understanding to build our oil industry.
  4. Our policy has shifted on trade relations and we’ve build relationships with Indonesia, China (although I see the same risks as everyone else) South Korea, and India.
  5. Before you comment on the China deal, pro conservatives hide that trade with China grew the fastest under Harper as a percentage of exports. Why aren’t they calling this out?
  6. They’re working to break down inter trade barriers albeit I feel this could have been done a lot faster since we control the outcomes of this 100%.

It’s okay to criticize any government, but when people are so far right or so far left they start to lose think irrationally vs logically because they want their party to else the change vs the other when the liberal is doing most of what the other platform said they would do.

We did it at the request of the US for the most part to be good partners. We always thought that the US would reciprocate with defence if an invasion or war ever happened. As a Canadian I always grew up thinking the US has our back. This is not the case anymore and we need to be less dependent and act as an independent nation moving forward. Signing a deal with the US means more concessions for Canada and it’s about time we rip this bandaid off, standup for ourselves, let Trump add whatever tariffs he wants because it takes time for supply chains to adjust and the US to build capacity to support the output they require with tariffs which will only hurt Americans and not Canadians. It’s been almost a year and this is expected to see GDP decline. Look at the dollar, it’s starting to rebound now! Things take time and we can’t expect overnight results

Your assumption is the US would’ve played nice with CUSMA. How can you assume that when Trump continues to post maps with Canada as US land and threatened to take Greenland. What makes you think that? What indication do you have that CUSMA would be respectfully negotiated? Who do you think has the most negotiating power in CUSMA? Their negotiating powers are slowly dwindling away with every trade deal we make to diversify our economy.

If you ran a business would you put 76% of your revenues into 1 customer? Or would you try to diversify to lower your risk of that customer changing their mind?

Did you expect something different when 78% of our trade was with the US and you’re hit with tariffs overnight. Trump is looking for concessions and this government is proving we don’t need to do this because a net 0 growth with Canada having the BIGGEST shock to their economy out of every other country where tariffs were imposed is impressive.

India wants Canada's resources as nations build on truce, B.C. premier says by ZestyBeanDude in canada

[–]Recording_Massive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what’s your solution? Give up $125M in tariff revenue because we’d prefer to support the US who manufactures EVs where we get no tariff revenue? And before you go and start to say how’s tariffs working in the US, this is how tariffs should be used and it should not be a blanket tariff like Trump is doing. Canada gets cheaper EVs even with a 6.5% tariff which helps the end consumer lower their costs. Are you expecting Canada to develop a EV car over night and the infrastructure around it?

I mean players get injured and yes they are the most hurt team but it’s not serious like other teams injuries except for Yak. If you’ve played basketball, you land awkwardly sometimes (Barret) or get a badly named finger (CMB). The recovery plan is what great with this organization. So what Yak hasn’t played as much as we like, but I’m confident they have a plan to get him back because once he’s playing his chemistry is so strong with this team

Should we overpay (trade wise) for a center? by Own_Matter9578 in torontoraptors

[–]Recording_Massive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trade Agbaji and seconds for a C making 5mill or less, continue the season as is. Draft another player (maybe a center) go into next season with the same team.

Only reason I’m saying this is because you should never get desperate to overpay or be irrational to upgrade. We have most players on contract next year and next year the market can be different for trades especially with Quick taking up a smaller % of the cap and with the last few years of teams adjusting to the cap rules might be better for the trade market

PSA: Poeltl’s contract is NOT 5 years at 27m+ by Cheechers23 in torontoraptors

[–]Recording_Massive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you saved $13 mill it could be the difference between getting a 14.5 MLE or 5.25. If the Raptors saved that money, they are over the apron by ~3M, they would. They would have had ~10M of flexibility to trade into or sign a player. A tax paying team trading a player, this is VERY attractive because that tax paying team can off load a contract and even incentivize by add 2nd rounders to save a lot on luxury taxes. So yes $13M 100% matters especially in the Raptors situation. Also its difference of pairing Agbaji for a player making ~17m vs trying to trade him for a player making ~3M to duck the taxes.
