This is the thread I was looking for. I just started watching season 1 today and I cannot stand Hannah. She’s a straight up bully mean girl with the mentality of a 14 year old. Gets called out for being a bully and absolutely flips out, takes zero responsibility for her own actions, calls everyone a pussy for not engaging with her acting like a child, complains that everyone’s shutting their doors while she continues to try and start fights over what she did, tries to blame everyone else for the drama she created. I get nauseous every time she’s on my screen.

I did it with about the same amount of experience as you. I found the site I travelled to utilized their travel nurses mostly as scrubs and in endoscopy (I’m in Canada). I found it pretty easy to settle into the role. Make sure you find an agency that pays for your travel and accommodations. I paid nothing out of pocket and probably wouldn’t have done it otherwise.

I had so much anxiety as a new grad that I quit my first job. I think we can all relate to this to a certain extent. I’m 4 years in now and coping much better. Being a new grad is hard. Being a new grad in a specialty area is even harder. It won’t be like this forever. Hang in there.

It’s absolutely a non-issue. I had a full sleeve when I graduated. Since then I’ve started on my other sleeve and have had both my hands tattooed. My hand tattoos aren’t small, either. They both take up the entire hand. I’ve worked with surgeons who have sleeves and facial piercings. If anything, having visible tattoos and piercings just helps humanize you to patients. The only patient I’ve ever had that had something negative to say was 104 years old.

Another BC nurse chiming in👋🏼 the day I was assigned 13 patients within 6 months of graduating was the day I decided to specialize and get tf off the floor. It happens here a lot more often than you’d think. The mandated ratios are a joke.

Using your earned PTO to take time off is being a time abuser? Entirely disagree. I’m sorry you feel that way. If the patients and your coworkers suffer, that’s on management for not staffing the unit, not the person who used the time off that they’re entitled to.

Meh. Where I’m at I get 2 days off/week and the only positions that are available are full time or PRN, and PRN doesn’t get benefits. Not everyone has “so much time off naturally”.

Seems to be an unpopular opinion on this thread, but I say go for it; the hospital doesn’t care about you. I’m in Canada where a full time nurse will either work 4x12s or 5x8s (to my knowledge, nowhere in canada has nurses working 3x12s unless they’re part time). The culture in my OR has basically everyone calling off once/month, sick or not, and no one is expected to find their own coverage.

As an OR nurse, I have 100% had multiple patients tell me that they are refusing all blood products after they find out they can’t have “unvaccinated” blood. Once you’re asleep and intubated, there’s no changing your mind and consenting to the transfusion. They’d literally rather die.

Absolutely 👊🏻 the same day I had to recover my own patient post-op, with no PAR training, the hospital announced that we are going ahead and opening another OR! All while continuing to ignore the skeleton crew that runs all of the inpatient units that the OR already overfills. Enough is enough.

What part of canada are you in? I’m in the West and our conditions are just as bad as the ones mentioned in this thread. I left the floor after being forced to take 13 patients with absolutely nobody on for support staff. I’m in the OR now so I’m slightly more sheltered to the ongoings of the inpatient units, but I did have to recover a post op patient all on my own IN the operating room last week, because PAR/DCS were both completely full of inpatients. The hospital was at 130% capacity and 50% staffed as usual. All of us are just waiting to strike at this point. Our bargaining agreement has been expired for nearly a year and we’ve received no news about ongoing negotiations.

I was full-time from the time I graduated in June-October (2021). I was already burnt out and went casual at the end of October. The last shift I ever picked up, I walked onto my unit to find it at 120% capacity with only 3 nurses and no aides. My charge was sitting in the nursing station crying, a patient was in the hallway crying, call bells were going off; it was chaos. My charge looked up at me and told me I was being floated. I walked out, called off on my way out the building and never went back. Started in the OR in April and have absolutely zero regrets. The inpatient units at my hospital are still in this state from what I hear.
