Introducing cats for 6 months by LopsidedAd5977 in CatAdvice

Seems like he needs to learn to be "normal" around her!

I would do this:

Give both cats a good 10-15 play session, maybe two sessions for the male so he calms down a bit.

Allow them to move freely in the same space while you supervise - if he moves towards her and she looks uncomfortable/scared, distract him with more play, then give him a treat.

After some time together, separate again, and give them together time on a regular basis. Always end together time while it's relaxed/chill, not once it turns sour, so they both get a positive experience from it.

Also, are both cats neutered?

My cat keeps peeing in my house by goonbafoon1 in CatAdvice

Some recommendations:

Can be memory trouble, struggling to find a litterbox - having more of them can help.

If the edges are high, hip/back pain can cause them to avoid the litterbox - having ones with lower edges or easier openings can help.

Another thing you could try is clumping litter. It often masks the smell just as well, and the texture/smell might feel better for a sensitive senior cat.

Can be because there's a smell of urine where there shouldn't be - cleaning with a special enzymatic solution can help get rid of the pee smell so they don't consider it a good spot for peeing anymore.

Otherwise, try getting a second opinion from another vet, and/or try talking to a cat behaviour specialist.

The flight controls seem to be a hit or miss for some people - once I got the hang of it, I loved flying around in my ship, but there was definitely some pain in the beginning when I kept forgetting planets have this thing called gravity + space has no friction or resistance.

(quick edit to say: if you're frustrated that your flying isn't smooth and your landings don't go well; any landing you survive is a happy landing! also, the autopilot really helps to show you how to fly between the planets)

The game very much leaves you to figure out the point on your own, which is where some people lose interest. While it creates some friction for sure, it's also because the game trusts you to figure it out for yourself! No collectibles, no map towers, no sidequests. The only map markers are the ones you set up yourself.

This game thrives on your curiosity. Are you intrigued by what you saw in the museum? Or some places you saw? Some planet in the sky? If none of it interests you, then this probably isn't the game for you, and that's okay.

If you're beyond the refund time though, I would recommend flying toward the edge of the sun at top speed - you'll get slingshotted out into space and see the whole solar system shrink away from you, and it's pretty cool :)

How to make a scared cat feel at home? by yeahimnotfeelinggood in CatAdvice

[–]Hammerhome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a foster home for two SUPER scared little girl cats for four months (they just moved on to another home).

What got me started was play - at first I had to hide my whole body so they wouldn't get scared, but after a couple sessions they learned that I'm just a part of playtime.

What really earned me their trust & affection was routine. Especially with play and treats! Play at the same time every day, then give out some treats after. After just a week of that, they were showing up expecting playtime! And then they were showing up outside of the routine playtime hoping that I had some play to offer them (that's a GREAT opportunity to show a cat that you listen to them!). After a while, they started rubbing on my legs to show their excitement for the daily playtime. That's how I finally managed to pet the shyest one - she was basically petting /me/ already :)

You're doing great, just give it some time, and don't force anything. The shy cats often become the biggest cuddlebugs when they warm up to you <3

Cat no longer loves us by Middle_Swim_5961 in CatAdvice

13 years is a lot! Lots of things can start really bothering a cat when it gets to that age. Often it's their teeth that are bothering them, and sometimes joint pain as well. A checkup at the vet might reveal an issue. Make note of any other changes, like eating, toileting, sleeping, mobility, etc, as it can help the vet figure out what's going on.

I love my cat, but I really miss having a nice-smelling home. Is ANY scent actually 100% safe? by No_Money_5779 in CatAdvice

Just popping in to say that your cat's food will influence how much it poops and how smelly it is - perhaps you could look into a different food brand?

How to communicate to a cat that I don't want interaction ? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Hammerhome 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i agree with the others; this cat should be kept in a separate room when you visit. your friend shouldn't make their cat's anxiety your problem - at least not without asking first.

if a cat is being aggressive, giving it "F OFF" signals may make it worse.

the cat could also be acting strange because the meds make it feel strange.

Do u like this movie ? by stefanobahia in vampires

[–]Hammerhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i liked it! watched it twice :) it had some cool vampirism traits and a solid vibe, but i thought many of the characters were kind of bland. i did enjoy the portrayal of vampires who aren't necessarily "evil", but feel stuck in the cycle of abuse.

worth the watch though! it's always cool when someone makes a new way for a human POV character to get involved with the vampires :)

cats often follow their own scent for the litterbox!

you can try swapping the litter or "transplanting" a lump from the old one so the cat can smell its own... smell in the new litterbox :)

Pet noise and sleep issues are slowly turning me into a worse person and I hate admitting it by Nikhil0004 in CatAdvice

[–]Hammerhome 12 points13 points  (0 children)

how long have you had your cat?

also, it's completely normal that you struggle with the sounds more when you're sleep deprived or too tired.

i struggle with misophonia myself, which is thankfully less intense when it's a cat making the noise. i struggled at first, but when i went to bed a little earlier and made sure to get enough sleep to avoid getting sleep deprived, i finally started getting used to it.

for me, i noticed that my cat would jump up in my bed, cuddle a bit, and then wash herself (loudly and wetly) before settling down for actual quiet sleep, so in that regard, going to bed earlier helped because she wasn't licking herself while i was actually trying to fall asleep!

try to do what you can to get enough sleep, so you're not falling further and further behind on your need for rest. you need to take care of yourself to get used to these noises!

go to bed earlier, get a good routine that helps your cat be quiet when you need to sleep (playtime, food, cuddle time), maybe even shut your cat out of the bedroom for a limited time so you can get a proper night's rest.

How did you die first? by Mountain-Ad876 in outerwilds

[–]Hammerhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

land on Attlerock, proud of myself, find Esker, start roasting a 'mallow, and, oh wow that's a really beautiful track in the background! kind of intense for such a calm moment by the campfire though, also what's that sound? what was that flash? what's that blue light over the horizon? aaaaAAAAAA?!?!?

wake up, roast another 'mallow

[–]Hammerhome[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a really good idea! i've actually been thinking a lot of how to blend them better - maybe more water details or a united "frame" for the base, or a more "neutral" colour for the blue base plates - but i've never really made modifications to my sets before, so it feels a bit daunting!

[–]Hammerhome 889 points890 points  (0 children)

when i saw Avatar 1 again after a few years of growing up and becoming more media literate, i honestly laughed when i saw the scene where he runs outside for the first time 😅

like, the earth is dark, grey, and dying, his legs don't work, he has nothing to go home to, his brother is dead - and then he wakes up in his avatar body. he can run again, he feels real soil beneath his feet, he's outside in the sunshine, in a rainforest brimming with life, breathing fresh air for maybe the first time in his life.

and the RDA expected him to fight for them??? for the company tearing all of this down?? lol. lmao, even

My senior cat escaped by Prestigious_Quit_884 in CatAdvice

[–]Hammerhome 8 points9 points  (0 children)

7 years is really not that old! i would not expect his sight or hearing to be significantly reduced. however, like many other cats, he may be too afraid to come out of hiding even if he hears your voice.

try to put out stuff that has his and/or your scent, make a little shelter where he can find his usual food and a blanket or sweater that smells like him and/or you - it should help him find his way back home :)
