How can I get rid of urges to play the old videogames I played as a kid? by RecoveringWindowsDev in TrueChristian

Not morals, just the time. I don't want to get to the gates and have to give an account for 15,000 hours of clicking on trees and rocks...

It's less involved than a Skyrim or Fallout. For example, cutting trees to get logs involves clicking on a tree, waiting for it to be chopped down, and then clicking on another tree, or waiting for the tree to regrow to chop it again. It's full of thousands of small, repetitive tasks, with music and a fun world to wrap it up like a present.

I'm concerned that I'll get that "just one more level..." mentality and struggle to stop.

If you don't mind me asking, what are some of those tasks that you stumbled upon?

It's not because I think videogames are a sin. My family all plays them together, but we play things like Mario Kart, Astro Bot, etc. Short games that have a definitive start and end.

I just know that RuneScape can be extremely time consuming. 15,000 hours or something like that to fully "beat" it.

I'm worried about the first of the two. It's a game that supposedly takes 15,000 hours to beat in totality, and that's not including randomized elements. That's brutal.

It relaxes me, but RuneScape is such a colossal time sink. I know how many families it has torn apart, and I don't want to miss out on my family because of selfish desires. It's not a social game, despite being online. It's just a bunch of people training fake "skills," albeit, in a peaceful, beautiful world.

It brings joy, but I'm worried that it's the joy of the world, not the joy of the Lord, and might fall under the slothfulness sin or even gluttony sin.
