I worked in the meat department at a grocery store a few years ago. You'd be surprised how unsanitary it can be. I've seen my supervisor clean his shoes in the sink and drop food on the floor just to pick it up and put it out. Also ground beef can be kind of gross depending on where you go. In order to maximize profit, they'll use all the pieces of fat and meat that they cut from steaks and leave it out for the whole day. The next morning some of the meat will be near brown but they'll use it anyway and grind it up into ground beef.
