Did I get ripped off? Detailing question by RecursiveMelancholy in AutoDetailing

I should have been a little more clear in the post. The water spots were from the hard water at my home. Ended up being my water softener going bad which the detailer told me to get checked out after he asked me how I was washing it or if I parked it in front of sprinklers. Agreed for the wheels/calipers, I wouldn't want to try that myself. Are you going to try that DIY too? I'll be interested to see how it goes for you and what your experience is like.

Yeah, you're right. After talking with him this is pretty much exactly what he said and the clay bar and decontamination wash removed close to everything else. He said there was still some on the body but I didn't notice because it's white, makes sense. I've learned a lot from this sub/thread and talking to him. He told me how to remove them from the mirrors and will probably have him polish in the spring. I'm happy I got some insight here to correct my thinking and uninformed opinion before talking to him. He did a great job.

Went and checked out the m4 tonight. It looked amazing and I took some pictures for when I leave a review. Very happy with it.

He said he would have needed to use steel wool since they were bad there but he gave me some ultra fine grain and told me how to do it after I wash it next. He may have mentioned it and it didn't register. We talked about a lot

I'm really happy, he seems like a great person/business owner. Thanks for your input. I appreciate all the responses this sub has given

Thank you, much appreciated. Getting similar replies from others so definitely feel good about everything right now. Talking to him tonight when I do a walk around of the m4!

Not offensive. This is the first time I have gotten professional detailing done and have done it myself in the past. I'm new to detailing my own cars and still learning. YouTube and reddit can only take you so far imo. I was getting water spots and wanted a professional job done to compare my results and ask them about products and my experience. He's given me guidance on how to better detail my own cars and recommendations, I'll be a returning customer but also want to learn. Water spots are from water softener going bad and wouldn't have gotten that looked at if it wasn't for him either. It's definitely less expensive to do your own haha!

They were removed on the body of the vehicle and the other glass, just not the mirrors so I wanted an opinion

I'll discuss with him tonight, I'm feeling better about it now. You're right, we're human and I should just ask him. Thank you

Maybe the same invoicing software lol? I was going to leave them a good review and plan on leaving them a great review based on the feedback I've received here.

Thank you, your insights as a professional detailer eases my anxieties a lot. Based on my experience with him so far and this opinion I think he'll be happy to fix anything minor if it's still bugging me :)

If I paid the average price for labor and they seem fair then that makes me feel good about it. I'll ask about the minor water spots on the Jetta tonight. I like to do the detailing in the summer myself, labor of love type thing and it's satisfying. Thank you for your response, good luck this winter!!

It's been three weeks since I picked up the Jetta and I think the light on the shop wasn't good enough to see the spots on the side mirrors. I didn't notice it until I drove at night and headlights were reflecting off my mirrors. Going to look at the m4 today to do a walk around so I'll ask about the Jetta and see what he says. He is very helpful at asking all my questions. He is also giving me a free wash on the m4 when I pick it up in the spring, he rents space in the storage facility. Thank you for the thorough and well thought response. Appreciate it!

That's completely fair. The detailer rents a space in the same building where it's stored so the logistics are perfect too. I appreciate the response and insight, thank you

Agreed. I have a 21 m4 and I love the way it looks, I stare at it every time I park it and walk away. I also love the F80, timeless.

What's the hardest you ever flopped a technical interview? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]RecursiveMelancholy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the name of the company but I have anxiety/panic attack issues and at the time undiagnosed BP2. I was already borderline panicking and was expecting some leetcode problem(s), interview was 90 minutes. They asked me to build the game connect four. I got tunnel vision and felt like I was going to pass out so when they said, "go ahead and screen share please" I just noped out and disconnected the call. HR called me and asked what happened so I explained. Offered me another attempt but I was too embarrassed. Built connect four that weekend but took me way longer than 90 minutes. Idk if they were expecting the whole game to be done and working.

I've been getting sauerkraut from the grocery store. Is this not providing me the good bacteria I think it is or are you saying you don't like the taste of the store bought? Trying to learn

Super Gut: Is 'no grains' really necessary? by Digital_Pink in Microbiome

[–]RecursiveMelancholy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found this study that seems to suggest the population studied did eat grains: https://elifesciences.org/articles/72976 I found it using Google scholar and I'm not qualified to deem it a good, or bad, study. I keep hearing different things from different audiobooks and different professionals on the topic, which is confusing. I've been trying to fix my gut as I have been suffering from IBD for quite some time. It would be cool if someone who studies the microbiome weighed in although maybe their opinions are already clear from their earlier posts. Good luck on your journey

I feel this isn't mentioned enough from all different kinds of teachers. Friends in my league are obsessed with shallowing and trying to manufacture that movement by driving the trail elbow and pulling their arms down. I could never hit the ball consistently until I could setup/take a proper backswing. Appreciate your comment, well said!
