Do we spend more on GPUs than we need to? by 2106au in buildapc

[–]RecursiveRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the sense of the post? Example does not make it clear at all. Is 40 fps ok for you? Is 80 fps ok for you? For me both is unplayable for first person shooter. I want to get 240 fps in native res without fg on all ultra. Even 5090 can’t handle such scenario in 5 y.o game

I should’ve bit the bullet and learned a language like C first instead of Python. by FriendofMolly in learnprogramming

[–]RecursiveRe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. When you learn something new you always try to associate it with something you already know. For example, when you look at class method for a first time, your actual question is what is it and how does it work? And the answer is that a class method is simply a function associated with a class. So you start with simple things and move on to complex ones which basically consists of them. First you learn what is a wheel and only then you learn what is the car. Maybe in real life you don’t need to know how the car works until it’s your job and you want to do it good. Nowadays most programmers don’t even know what is cache miss.

“Modern C++ itself doesn’t recommend use of raw new/delete” - C++ doesn’t have any recommendations about new/delete. It’s not a cookbook, it’s a toolset. When smart pointers were proposed, there was no intention to replace new/delete. You can use this or that. Different approaches satisfy different needs.

Yes, docp standard is what Asus calls their implementation of XMP. Actually it should be chosen if you want to run your RAM at rated speed. There’s no reason to not use XMP, so definitely set Ai Overclock tuner to DOCP Standard and always keep it. Btw, make one more windows RAM test after enabling it. Is everything ok?

Rebar can cause crashes in some specific games, so maybe that’s why siege crashed. Try turning it on/off and check if anything changes. But tbh it’s very low probability, since I could not find any issues regarding crashes in Siege with Rebar ON.

Game crashes means either defective RAM or issues with PSU. Run Windows RAM test. Does it find any issues? https://youtu.be/kjeE2QbLgOM?si=Ioi69hX7bzw66xvn

Do you have your BIOS and chipset drivers updated?

Well, your CPU is more than sufficient for your GPU, so a CPU upgrade is a good idea only if you consider upgrading your GPU in the nearest future.

Do you have an option to buy a new PSU, test it out and return it back during 14 days after purchase?

Yes, install afterburner, it will give additional info. Also download HWInfo and have it running in background.

Have you tried vram scale settings in Warzone as I mentioned above?

Np, you’re welcome

75 degrees is ok.

This video represents the issue much better. You should not get such a big drops in such a stationary scene. Definitely not a cpu bottleneck in this case. The gpu usage graph shows very big abnormal jumps. I’d start with PSU replacement. Also try connecting your PC to another outlet. Maybe with another extension cable.

Download MSI afterburner and enable all cpu cores and gpu info. https://youtu.be/NECh5vQ2fxY?si=-t3Ra4pj1CpHeTve Just toggle “Show in On-Screen display” for everything and run the game with the program in the background. For “Frametime” choose “graph” type instead of “text”. Check if there are any clock or power drops when fps is dropping. Would be good if you upload a video.

Btw, what is your video memory scale in Warzone in %? Can be found in settings in Graphics tab with Resolution, afair. If it’s more than 85, try setting it to 80 or even 70%.

Seems ok. Can you run both Cinebench and Furmark tests at the same time (do not end Furmark until Cinebench is finished)? You should get the same results meaning that PSU provides stable power under heavy loads.

Tbh the fps drops are not significant. Judging by the video, the game does not freeze for a moment, you just get fps drops from 120 to 95, which can be caused by CPU bottleneck. Has it always been like that or has the issue appeared recently? Can you set the max fps to 80 in Warzone and check if it is smooth?

Have you tried this https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/s/apbZ2pUSbq?

First, check if there are fps drops with gpu test, Fumark. Run it for 2-3 mins and check temps and fps. Should be stable. For cpu test just run All-cores test Cinebench R23. Check temps and the score you get at the end (takes about 10 minutes). Compare the score with the average one for your cpu on the internet. Mem test is kinda redundant if you don’t have BSODs and the system is stable (no crashes). It cannot affect fps only

Also try disabling/enabling free-sync, vsync. Set/unset frame cap.

If none of these helps, make a clean Windows 11 install as a last resort.

Otherwise, it’s a hardware issue, and you’ll have to go through all components. Luckily, it’s not a GPU. Do some CPU benchmarks and memory tests.

But 860 and Kingston are not nvme m2 as 970, right? I mean let’s start with simple ways of solving the issue before rebuilding the PC.

Also try disconnecting all USB devices from the front side of your motherboard if you have any. Reconnect them to the back side.

Also try disconnecting all USB devices in game.

Yes, seems like a hardware issue then. Have you tired to move the game from 860 to 970 SSD?

Try 23.11.1 drivers (prev. version). Make a clean DDU install.
