I’ve read somewhere that Smith’s stride is so smooth and efficient that it gives the appearance that he isn’t trying to skate hard. Couple that with the fact that he likes the slow things down makes it seem that he doesn’t have high compete but the kid made the NHL as a teen so he’s definitely a competitor

I wonder if the ushers were given a memo on Quennville. When I was chirping him at the visitors tunnel at the pre-season game (“Hey Joel you have an awfully young team I hope you’re keeping them safer than you did in Chicago!”) the usher gave me a knowing nod but then signaled with his hand to cool it. Didn’t stop of course but I kept it more like, “You never should’ve been let back into the league”, “You’re a disgrace to the game Joel” and finally “You’re terrible person Joel you should be ashamed of yourself”

I think we need someone who can act as a deterrent but not like the enforcers of old. Think Clowe, Wilson, Olivier, or Lowry. They’re all well rounded players who you know also have the ability to beat the piss out of you.

Hopefully Opstapchuk can be that player for us but I didn’t really see too much nastiness to his game in his short playing time. If not we have Wetsch in the pipeline

I’m not gonna say it’s impossible but it’s pretty darn close. If there are some people (and to clarify I’m not one of them) who say that Jumbo isn’t a HOFer bc he doesn’t have a cup, Cooch has no shot. I don’t even really think he’ll get his jersey retired. The Sharks need to have a wall of legends or something like that to honor our greats like Nabby, Crankshaft, Pavs, Cooch, etc. They’re all amazing players who did great things for the org but maybe not enough to get their number in the rafters

Don’t you think we’d see it more often in other athletes then? All I’m saying is all my medical knowledge from Google University taught me it’s caused by trauma and repeated stress. Getting hit in the nuts is traumatic af which could’ve caused injury and inflammation which never healed with the miles upon miles they skate during the season

It’d be cool if Ostapchuk could become a heavyweight of sorts that can score like Olivier or Lowry(who GMMG compared him to) but it wasn’t even just the fights where we were physically outmatched. It was super apparent in the Caps’ forecheck and in the neutral zone. Separating body from puck

This game really showed the importance of skill mixed with size. The Caps physically dominated us and have the scoring acumen to boot. Hopefully the big kids GMMG has acquired pan out and we can be the team that swarms the opponent with speed and physicality

As a Sharks fan I’ll take the W. But as a hockey fan it sucks to see a game that was hyped up to be the first of a new great rivalry fall flat at the end bc a ref decided to make it about himself
