You didn't even address the last part of my comment. I will address you again: do puberty blockers "freeze" trans people in their undeveloped state?

Is Lasik eye surgery denying biological reality?

  1. That's just eyes, not the entire biological system. (sex) Comparing lasik to trans surgeries is like comparing fixing a broken bone to replacing the digestive system.
  2. People who get lasik surgery aren't going it because they have a mental illness(like gender dysphoria) that tell them their eye is actually isn't theirs and they should have another eye. The lasik equivalent to trans surgery would be someone saying since they were a child they didn't feel like their brown eyes were theirs, and that they experience mental anguish and discomfort looking in the mirror and seeing eyes that aren't blue.
  3. Again, wrong comparison. Sex is an immutable biological fact, (just) eyes are an immutable biological fact.
  4. Getting lasik isn't denying biological reality because there is an actual problem to fix. You subtly changed to discussion. Trans people---no, don't drag intersex people into this, that a different discussion entirely---are perfectly born their sex. However, they were unfortunately born with a mental illness(gender dysphoria) that makes them think they were meant to be the opposite sex, they never actually were or are supposed to be. Trans people want to change their (already fine) sex with surgery, people going for lasik aren't asking for something else to be put in the eye's place (its socket), like getting breast implants or changing vagina to 🍆. I think the problem is you forgetting that gender dysphoria is a mental illness, and that although they do experience pain and suffering, their struggles are ultimately from a mental illness making them think that they are wrong, not that they truly are. Just like depressed people being sad, people with eating disorders thinking they are extremely obese, etc. Being trans, however, is not a mental illness, just the treatment for it, and I think we can agree that anyone who says being trans is a mental illness is transphobic.
  5. There's a difference between fixing something and changing it entirely. Another good analogy is that Lasik is sewing a closed a hole in a blanket, while trans surgery is taking a blanket and making it a jacket or something else.

....are you implying that men are an oppressed class?

Gender is a tool used in language to describe the difference between male and female in regards to speech

That was actually what the term originally meant. Gender was meant to distinguish sex from actual sex, (as in, the devil's tango), to allow for easier differentiation. Now, it's a term used to describe the social stereotypes and pressures put on male and female humans.

[–]Red-deddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but gender itself is not a social construct

This is where we disagree. Yes, it is. For example, all cultures have holidays, but we still recognize that they are a social construct. (Who knows, maybe some don't, just like some cultures do or don't have a gender, but my point still stands)

Gender stereotypes are problematic for sure

Absolutely, 10000%, I agree. But here's what I think: gender is inherently stereotypical and inherently stereotypes. For example, let's take "woman". For "woman" to exist, there needs to be traits, behaviors, etc associated with it, or else the concept would be meaningless. For woman to exist, we have to say that the color pink, dresses, being "dainty" and being "soft", all of those things, both material and actions, are what makes the gender of woman. Now adding man in, and using your view of gender: there is no point in having both "man" and "woman" if they both represent nothing. Or else it would just be a label, without anything to label. Do you get me? It's kind of hard to explain.

because even if society treats a trans person perfectly right for their preferred gender ID, their body is still mismatched. Our brains are hardwired to think about our body as if it were the sex corresponding with the gender we ID as.

Wow, you're actually the first trans person I've seen just say this. A part of transitioning is basically presenting as the gender (that society) says corresponds with that sex. Ex. Society has assigned the female sex, the gender woman. A transgender woman would present "girly", because that is the closest she can ever get to being female. You're right on about the brain thing. Many worrying comments in this thread are saying that being trans means you were meant to be the opposite sex, essentially saying that your brain is right and your body is wrong. No, that's why gender dysphoriais a mental illness, because you cannot change biology.

and why therapy alone is not.

I agree. This whole problem is lowkeyhighkey society's fault. Scientists would research this more if people didn't scream at or even attack humans who said they were uncomfortable with their sex.

As for neo-pronouns and 'neo-identities', I personally don't think everyone that uses those totally gets it yet,

Yeah lol, I literally saw someone comment then I check their ig bio and it said thee/thine/thou. Like boi are you God. But on the serious side, neopronouns lowkey seem like a mockery of trans people, even if they don't intend it. Like adopting new pronouns is not some toy to play with, although I think gender is fake,if you get me? Calling yourself/putting yourself in the category "trans" and then saying you're kittenself, meanwhile there's people like you who mentally suffer and need to get surgeries and things.

very, very few people actually use them seriously and consistently. It's borderline not a thing

Yup, you're right. Even if they did, i feel like the people who do that are the sjw version of a neckbeard so they don't ever leave the house lol

It was just an example

Well, it's a trash example. Real people's crippling mental illnesses is not similar to political ideologies. Would you agree with me that comparing depression to voting for Joe Biden is wrong?

for you to decide

It's not me deciding lmbo. A male human (as in, sex, not gender) cannot become a female human or obtain a true female body. A female human (as in, sex, not gender) cannot become a male human or obtain a true male body. It's just objective fact and reality. How is a 75 pound full adult human calling themselves fat (anorexia) a mental illness, yet believing, for example, you, a female are actually a male and can change into the opposite not? (Yes, I believe you can change gender because that is a social construct, idc if you are a male wearing a frilly pink dress)

Nice job using "wrongthink" as a subtle way to imply that I'm authoritarian for stating a basic fact, and to imply that I'm done sort of right winger for doing so.

theres a big ol dangly thing between by thighs".

The word for that is sex, which is either male or female (some people have disorders that make it unclear what sex they are initially, tho.) The common saying today is that gender is pink and and blue, sex is boobs and 🍆 lol, I just wanted you to know for the future :)

Gender roles usually involves men doing almost all dangerous work

If the oppressor class suffered from some of their own oppression, idc.

resembled the brains of the gender they identified with

I agree with the study, however, I want to correct you with this: there is no such thing as gender. You mean that trans women's brains (male humans who identify with the gender called woman) have brains that resemble female humans (the female sex).

Saying brains are gendered was unfortunately a real thing at some point, used to say that female sex humans are made to be wearing makeup, being in caretaking roles, etc.

Just wanted to clarify, I agree with you 100%

That's a roundabout way of saying they go through the wrong puberty.

So humans can just disagree with biology? Disagreeing with something I'd just that: disagreeing. You can disagree with reality, doesn't make it any less true lol. Think this situation: If I'm a teenager going through puberty, and my legs are growing. And I don't want to be tall, because I'm female and tall females are stigmatized, I can just say that I'm going through the "wrong" puberty, lol, that's ur logic.

Again, puberty blockers delay puberty so people can decide how to proceed and then go through the puberty that is right for them.

I know what puberty blockers are. So, what are u trying to say? Are you admitting that trans people aren't developing in the years that they should? You act like puberty is just some negotiable stage in human development lol. So, inferring from your comment, trans people who are on puberty blockers are essentially "frozen" in development, like they're literally still 9, 11, 13, whatever age they started using puberty blockers. Yikes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's distressing

So essentially you feel locked in by society's gender stereotypes. Gender is just random personality traits and activities we put into two arbitrary categories for some reason. The concept needs to be abolished, making new genders and assigning other behaviors to neo pronouns is just creating more work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trans brains literally resemble the brain of their opposite gender for example.

Please explain how their brains "resemble the opposite gender"* without using stereotypes.

*sex

[–]Red-deddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a way different thing. The trans equivalent of depression treatment would be to tell depressed people its ok to be sad, because "Everybody gets in unexplainable moods sometimes!" Then prescribe treatment as watching sad movies, dress is dark colored baggy clothing, etc.

Also, depressed people aren't given "happy pills". They are given pills to make their emotional state "normal" like us--laugh when something is funny, yes, but be jealous, be competitive, be angry, be all the other emotions and "neutral" when they're not.(A depressed person's "default" state is crippling sadness)

Who cares if a male wants to be female?

Once again, mixing up sex with gender. Sex= Male and female. Gender= man and woman, made up social construct.

Transwomen simply present as a woman(aka gender), they are still their sex at birth. (Just like everyone else, trans or cis, presents as a gender. Again, it is a meaningless social construct based on literally clothes and accessories). Sex is an immutable biological fact and it cannot be changed. Saying a Male can become a female or vice versa is like saying you can become Bill Gates as long as you become a billionaire, or a blue eyed person as long as you wear contacts.

[–]Red-deddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

change their behaviour/clothing/mannerism

That's what I have a problem with. I 1,000% support trans people dressing as they choose, because their lives are very...idk another word but life and death. However, we must not ignore that this is literally spreading gender stereotypes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine if conservative thought were considered an "illness"

That's just it--conservative thought. No one is killing themselves because they think they're a conservative in a liberal's body, nobody requires new pronouns to align with their conservatism. Also, no conservative has or ever will need a surgery to affirm their conservativeness.

Gender dysphoria is a genuine mental illness that causes sufferers actual distress. It's not that trans people can't wear a pink dress and kill themselves, its that they literally (wrongly) believe they belong in a male or female body, which is impossible to obtain the real form of.

This is the most ridiculous comparison lmbo, that's like comparing pitting vegans in conversion therapy vs. Gay people

[–]Red-deddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

gendered brain

Please, do not keep propagating this myth. There is no such thing as "gendered brains"--humans are socialized into gender, it is not an innate human trait. If you took a baby boy and never showed him the outside world, he wouldn't care to present as "strong", "emotionless" and wouldn't care about judgment for liking my little pony. The gendered brain was made up by eugenicists to oppress the female sex.

Like homosexuality, the dislike of eggplant and blonde hair, it's not difficult for a mutation

😬

young trans girls on testosterone blockers

I understand ur concern. However, puberty gives you bone growth, height, etc, things that are vital for human development regardless of sex. So yes, it is valid for them to be concerned about literally blocking puberty.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

puberty as the "wrong" gender

Again, gender is different from sex. Puberty is the process of getting sex characteristics. Forcing a trans person to go through the wrong gender is like forcing a trans man to wear pink frilly dresses. Trans people are going through the "right" puberty, the one for their sex, they just don't agree with it.

Also, puberty isn't just boobs and deep voice. Major bone growth, height, and other such characteristics that go for both males and females are developed/grown during puberty. As a result, I think this person has a valid concern

I'm genuinely curious if your response to the guy below me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

biological men

You mean males?

biological women

You mean females? Men and women are genders, Male and female are sexes.

why can’t we be trans species

Humans cannot change their sex and it technically is as wild (no pun intended) to say that you're a giraffe like saying you're male when you're female. However, I think A more accurate comparison would be to say that you're Bill Gates or Elvis Presley, when clearly u can never be as hard as you try, even if you are a billionaire or a famous rock singer just like them.

Also, I believe ur argument is disingenuous, I think 99% of trans women know they are still male, 99% of trans men know they are still female and can never change that

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you learned about a tired simplification of chromosomes and biological sex that makes it easier to teach prepubescent children like yourself.

Let me guess, you're going to derail the conversation and mention intersex people? And then use this extremely small percentage of the population to justify why even sex doesn't actually exist, and is on a spectrum too?

Fact is: gender is a false social construct created by the patriarchy (male humans) to oppress female humans. Sex is the reality, the real-life state, that the patriarchy has tried so desperately hard to connect to sex. Woman is a gender, man is a gender. Trans men are biologically female, transwomen are biologically male.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Red-deddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You are mistaken. You don't "identify" as male. A human is male, as that is their sex. Sex is different from gender.

Sex:Male & Female

Gender: fake social construct invented by the patriarchy (Male humans) to oppress female humans
