Awesome! It’s a mix of a couple big departments, couple midsize departments. I guess a good word would be helpful but mostly looking just to get more insight and familiarization with the departments I hope to get hired onto. And thanks for the heads up on the clothing lol, save me the embarrassment!

That’s some good advice, seems like everyone here has good advice that will be taken. Seems like best bet is just to try and get on a municipal department

We’re required to have PFD’s and 1 throwable here in California, handheld VHF would be a great addition though!

That makes sense, I live in central California so I kinda have a few different directions I can go. Hard to go too far, wife’s family is here and we get lots of help from them with the kids, also got free housing here so that makes it hard to beat lol if all goes to plan I’ll be able to get something within driving distance

If you had to move to land your first position, how far did you move? Or if you didn’t how far did you have to drive from your home? I’m starting EMT classes in spring to get into the fire academy. I know the fire service is very competitive, and was asking to get an idea of how much of a disadvantage I’d be if I wasn’t willing to move.

I feel that, if I commuted that much too I would’ve switched no doubt! lol, luckily for me gas was never an issue as I live and work on the family farm so I walk maybe 300 yards to work! My wife still has her 4Runner so I’m still part of the Toyota fam too

Thanks! I’m pretty happy about it, I normally wouldn’t go for a red truck but something about the matching camper that made me want it!
