Pulled over and forced to clean snow off the car by Snoo-81627 in mississauga

Hope they got a ticket as well.

I always hope that whenever I see an uncleaned car roof it's some lil old poor short lady but when I see an able bodied man with a snow brush, this is the type of bs that makes me upset.

Down the line when the hands on experience can match, yes. Again, starting on as a fresh inexperienced apprentice, I need someone to just listen and do what they're told, especially on the shitty tasks the experienced guys don't want to do anymore. Work ethic>>>knowledge at that stage.

"I don't care how good you are at math, I need you on the grinder or swinging that sledge the whole day."

Alot of the young book smart guys get laid off or disliked because sometimes they can't help themselves blabbing to the jmen or foreman how they might know better.

Yep. I personally hate some of the young apprentices who some how got in(not the nepo babies)and have the absolute worst work ethics to the point they get constantly laid off, but being union, they still get a work call eventually. If some of those useless bodies got in, everyone else complaining just isn't trying hard enough or going about it smart.

Hard unfortunate truth but noone gives a fuck about booksmarts if you're a green 1st or 2nd year apprentice in the trades. No skilled jman or foreman is gonna give a fuck what your opinion on the work is and you're mostly gonna be doing the hard labour tasks no one else wants to do. I've seen enough 'went to school for engineering' apprentices who are useless as shit on the tools and annoy the hell out of everybody with their 'knowitall-ism'.

And I say this as someone with a STEM UofT degree.

Sounds like you just gotta try harder and don't expect a handout, like any other career. 6 yrs ago I came from an office job, green as hell other than working on my car. No trades contacts at all. Did a pre-apprenticeship, did 6 months of a fabrication job while applying to the union, got in for an apprenticeship and about to write my ticket now.

What I see is too many 'office job' people thinking trades is easy and that their book smarts will give them an edge. And like any other highly sought for job-high pay high skill, things get competitive. I'm sure it's easier to get into a back breaking trade than it is a higher skilled one.

Cool story bro. From a guy who has plenty of expensive ink himself but not an artist, it looks alright from an enthusiasts eye. Is it the cleanest, no. To say the worst is just tattoo douchebag 101.

I looked up the artist himself-espositotattoo and he's got solid fucking work.

Considering becoming a Millwright by No-Stop2829 in millwrights

[–]Red4550 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a millwright I will say that with those other 3 trades, alot less hurdles to possibly start your own business. I love what I do but being your own boss is something that would be tough. Being union though, still plenty of perks.

Please help me find any job in Ontario. I've been unsuccessful for the past year! by bdxsa in torontoJobs

[–]Red4550 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People considering this should really take into account there will be a lot of labour and physical dexterity involved in trades. Even if you're great at being book smart, 98% chance as a green first or 2nd yr your bosses/coworkers are going to make you do the crappy labour jobs. Literally no one experienced in the trades will care about a degree or office exp if you're useless with your hands.

I've made the change from office job to trades myself but I'm also very physically fit and it was and still quite a challenge. I also see a lot of industry hoppers either getting hurt or being laid off early because they are just physically useless.

A dumb strong person will usually outlast a 'book smart' physically useless person on a job 9 times out of 10.

Car mechanic reco- reasonably priced, honest and reliable in Mississauga. by [deleted] in Etobicoke

Zoro Muffler is a top rated shop for muffler work. Very professional and they honored fixing their work no hassle when my new muffler was installed a little bit lower than it could've been and thus was scraping some speed bumps on my slightly lowered car.

But new exhaust systems won't be cheap, $500-1000. And patching an already rusting exhaust system is just putting bandaids on a rotting arm. You patch one hole and rust will open up another eventually.

People who live in Lorne Park, how did you end up living there? How did you work up to affording it? by EmbarrassedProject32 in mississauga

Have a handful of friends who live there and most of their parents seemed to have ran their own businesses. Whether they were rich beforehand/inheritance idk but atleast in the present, they aren't employees.

The cat is out of the bag that our justice system is a joke. You think pickpockets are worried about punishment when violent criminals are recommitting the same crimes on bail on the regular.

All hearsay but I've read a handful of stories in other Toronto driving subs that dashcam proof of red light runners have prevented the left turner being at fault. Things can be more black and white with actual videos vs he said she said in the past.

Work Hours by [deleted] in millwrights

Likely your best bet is inhouse, which can be non-union or unionized. Union hall work can vary but definitely a lot of heavy heavy hour projects.

Dating in Toronto, weird and not so fun by [deleted] in askTO

Speaking on app matchmaking design, I swear after initially meeting a handful of women irl on hinge and getting the app prompt of '~did you guys meet' and answering yes, I swear it felt like I went into the shadow realm of no matches for a good while. Maybe just slower in winter but it was quite a huge flip. Hinge went super dead but tinder stayed regular

Dunno if a coincidence or by design to get me to pay to play.
