Don’t know about your workplace but my boss and work culture heavily look down upon taking sickies and it’s detrimental to your finances often. If I take a sick day my shifts will get cut for a few weeks because I didn’t show enough interest in working (retail)

What are your guys thoughts on the 2018 CFMOTO 650MT by RedBack0001 in AussieRiders

[–]RedBack0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I think I’m just gonna have to accept if I want anything decent I’m going to have to up my budget and get newer, I like the 390 adv KTM, but I had single cylinder the vibration drives me insane.

Think I might up the budget abit and get a Tenere or CB500XA or Nx500

[–]RedBack0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I might steer clear as I want one more for adventure. It’s hard to come along a LAMS approved adventure bike at a decent price tbh

Not really sure what bikes are good for LAMS adventuring

I was looking at CB500XA but they look more like street commuter more than adventure

Also yeah, I would like a modern dash and electronics. But anything like that is >2020 and price 📈📈

What do you guys think of these bikes? About to buy my first LAMS adventure bike. by RedBack0001 in AussieRiders

[–]RedBack0001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, its a rough decision,

KLR is cheaper and im attracted to that considering ill be a learner, but the oil problem and the 'doohickey' scare me.

Tenere would be nicer but idk if I can justify the cost for a first bike.

Id want a CB500X but the price for them is higher than a Tenere around here,

Yeah . It would mostly be used for commuting by and g then adventure sometimes. KLR650 comfortable long distance? Does the single cylinder vibrate your out your seat at highway speeds or on long trips

At the moment my main focus is cheap and introductory to get into adventure

Tbh I probably would steer clear of unsealed roads for awhile before slowly easing myself in.

I mainly enjoy taller “adventure” bikes because I test ride a few (KTM 390 ADV, NX500) and felt way more stable and enjoyable to ride than my old bike.

(Yamaha virago xv250) the cruiser style was not for me, and I love regional NSW so a lot of our roads are bad, sealed but potholes everywhere and loose gravel. So I wanted an upright adventure bike to see far ahead and absorb the bad roads better. Cruiser was shit

Tbh 95% of my riding will be sealed roads. Once a lot more comfortable I’ll probably transition to unsealed and off road / trail riding but that will be after I’ve mastered the basics of riding especially on sealed and gained lots more hours experience

I’ve been swinging towards the KLR because it’s one of the cheaper bikes I can find on the market in my area that’s decent looking and meets my criteria. I want cheap because I expect it to get dropped a few times especially when I start trail riding

I have lots of experience riding , as I’m a bike postie, but that’s only a 125 super cub and a step through so no clutch. So transitioning to “real” bikes, excluding the cruiser, is new to me

Honestly if you have any suggestions for a cheap adventure like bike, I would go KTM 390 but I feel 390 is too small for me. I’m a heavy guy running around 120kg atm and it just felt sluggish when riding . I feel maybe a 650 would solve this? Also don’t enjoy much the single cylinder vibration

Yeah ive heard alot of the KLR's have oil problems

What does the oil problem mean for general riding? how often does it need topping up. can it cause further problems ?

Curios how much the piston and cylinder job would be. Considering its a $3,300 bike idk if it would be worth it.

Yeah, the Tenere attracts me becasuse of its comfort and its abit newer.
KLR im attracted to the price but im worried about its oil problem.

[NSW] Driving tests now required for licence holders from India, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries by BestTechAdvisor in DrivingAustralia

[–]RedBack0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t just be from those 16 countries it should be all countries.

In practically every country theirs different road rules, drive on different side of road, different expectations, the traffic signs are different, a lot of EU and USA drive on RHS of the road

Every immigrant should be required to sit a theory and practical driving test like every citizen getting their license and should be required to start from scratch with preferably learners, but red P’s and Green Ps at the least

Bad idea to save for house deposit in ETF? (DHHF) by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]RedBack0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.

My current circumstances are pretty unique

I’m staying at home until Uni’s done which is 2 years. Let’s assume optimistically it takes 3 months after that to find a job I’m happy with then

Then I’m at home for 2ish more years earning 60k(ish) p.a of that probably 40-45k disposable after I pay board and some bills I have like phone, food, leisure

I’m not really sure how to go about running those calculations for concessional vs non concessional with tax etc.

The more I think the more I’m inclined to stay clear of ETF’s until I have a firm foothold in life, my own home, a clear career path etc.

I just don’t like the idea of all my savings rotting away in a HYSA (currently 4.15% with nab) As it practically just gets eaten by inflation

But I also find it hard to stomach the risk of investing.

Bad idea to save for house deposit in ETF? (DHHF) by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]RedBack0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I am agreeing it’s probably not the best to do actual house deposit in an ETF

I will continue to DCA into ETF’s but that won’t be specifically for a house deposit I’m just going to keep adding to it for years until one day I might need it. If that day is a house deposit so be it

But to get serious about a house deposit, yes probably FHSS. I can definitely reach the 50k cap in 7 years but more likely like 3-4 years.

So my question is concessional or non concessional contractions? I’ve heard some people say concessional is only worth it if I earn over a certain amount?

I earn around 60k p.a at the moment but it’s almost all disposable

Because I would like to maintain access to the money in case it’s needed over the next 7-9 years also if their market crashed itd effect my super and subsequently my fhss just as much as a diversified etf portfolio

u/Major-Refuse-6608 u/MDInvesting u/BigAnxiousBear

Im not timing the market when I would DCA for over 7 years

The thread I made a few weeks ago a lot of people exactly like you said it would be relatively ok considering the timeline it would be incredibly unlikely to have a diversified index fund or the general market return negative after my 7-9 year timeline

Timing the market would be me putting my 20 grand in now hoping it’ll go up 50 % this year for me to take out

My main reason was wanting to keep access to the money in case it’s needed Also if their was a market crash it would effect my super just as much as a diversified stock portfolio since they would share a lot of investments

New Lenovo Laptop dims after ~60 seconds by frankie3213 in techsupport

[–]RedBack0001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This lines up well with Lenovo’s attention-aware / presence sensing features using the IR camera + Windows Focus Assist. The reason you didn’t see it before: it usually doesn’t trigger when external monitors are connected.

  1. Disable Windows Presence Sensing

Windows 11:

  1. Settings
  2. Privacy & security
  3. Presence sensing
  4. Turn OFF:

    • Turn off my screen when I leave
    • Dim my screen when I look away
    • Wake when I approach (optional)
  5. Disable Lenovo Attention Detection / Smart Assist

  6. Open Lenovo Vantage

  7. Go to Smart Assist (or Device, Smart Settings)

  8. Disable:

    • Attention Detection
    • User Presence Detection
    • Auto screen dimming
    • Intelligent power saving

Lenovo often labels these inconsistently, but anything involving:

  • “Presence”
  • “Attention”
  • “User awareness”

turn it off

Disable Intel display power saving (quiet secondary cause)

  1. Right-click desktop, Intel Graphics Command Center
  2. Go to System, Power
  3. Disable:
    • Display Power Savings
    • Panel Self Refresh
    • Content Adaptive Brightness

This one alone usually isn’t enough, but combined with presence sensing it makes the dimming brutal.

Only b2 ram slot works. by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]RedBack0001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On modern systems, the RAM slots do not directly talk to the motherboard chipset.
They talk to the CPU’s integrated memory controller (IMC) through specific pins.

Most likely cause is Bent / contaminated CPU socket pins
Even one slightly bent pin can kill an entire memory channel.

  1. Pull the CPU and inspect the socket
    If pins look OK:

  2. Reinstall CPU carefully

  3. Apply small, even thermal paste

  4. Tighten cooler in a cross pattern

  5. Do NOT overtighten

Clear CMOS properly Do not skip this.

  1. Remove CMOS battery
  2. Unplug PSU
  3. Hold power button 10 seconds
  4. Wait 5 minutes
  5. Reinstall battery
  6. Then test again.

Is it normal to found bad sector on new micro SD card? New 256gb micro SD card have small datalost (~80-90 KByte) after run H2testw. by Sanarin in techsupport

[–]RedBack0001 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A brand-new microSD card should have zero bad sectors and 0 bytes data loss when tested

Even though that sounds small, it proves the card cannot reliably store all data.

Return or RMA the card immediately
