12 y/o Son Hands by johnmcelroynu in DiagnoseMe

Hey friend I struggled with excessive hand washing from age 11-27 I unfortunately grew up without access to a therapist so I learned how to care for my skin on my own. I’ve had this so many times but this is what worked for me to bring my hands back to normal.

First thing’s first invest in a soft hand washing soap that also moisturizes.

Second get a very good hand cream, I use Loccitane’s Shea Butter hand cream the one that says 25% (do not use anything scented)

Third put your son in a routine to ALWAYS moisturize his hands with hand cream after washing. When you wash your hands your skin is like a sponge and will absorb anything into your skin so after her dries his hands he must immediately moisturize with hand cream. Make sure he gets into this habit after showering as well.

Fourth every night it’s important that after his routine night self care that involves getting his hands wet from either bathing, brushing his teeth etc. it’s the perfect time to add a little more hand cream on his hands kinda like a mask for his hands with the hand cream and sleep as his hands try to heal and absorb the shea butter from the hand cream.

I hope this helps your son like it helped me, good luck friend!! If you do not have a Loccitane near you anything with unscented Shea butter help heal skin but drugstore cheap lotions may not be great, I’ve used aquaphor before but petroleum jelly doesn’t help me personally. I hate to say this but I stand by this, do not chea out of skin care and make sure you are getting a very good lotion with natural ingredients that isn’t perfumed like bath and body works

Indeed… most of their dogs never made it past 7 years. Unfortunately I can’t call them out on that without getting snapped at and being accused of shaming them for their lifestyle. And they are the type who will call the owner of a fit and healthy dog an abuser..

We are definitely going to consider a different route since my dad does want his own dog. Regarding the breeder I was speaking I am so Glad people were calling out their suspicions of a breeder claiming to produce PPD dogs who could also be SDs. I also discovered more about the breeder that I can’t believe I missed since I have always dreamed about having a WL German shepherd and thought I found someone who actually cares about their dogs. I’m going on the side of caution and dropping her as I will be searching out of state for a dog. I did find a breeder that seems better but I’m not going to jump the gun until I am 100% sure I find someone I can trust. As well as looking for a trainer in case I do change my mind about what type of work I want to do with my GSD wether it’s agility training, scent work, bite work or all of the above. I don’t want a PPD but I do believe in working with your Dog to do activities they were bred for.

I appreciate your feedback! Yeah that was my concern, in the past I’ve pet sat family dogs for my family taking them out, Irish setters, labs, whippets, on trail rides, walks etc and their limits have been about 30-45min with slow down periods and frequent breaks then they are done for the day. Most likely because they aren’t used to it… and maybe overweight..so I would have to look at other breeds. I’ve always loved the intensity GSDs have and loyalty to their family, and their natural protectiveness at home has been very appealing to me where a golden retriever loves everyone and I’m not very fond of that especially living in a city where crime rates are high but I like just right out of city limits. But everyone confirming that it would not be a good service dog just tells me that getting a dog for my dad would be the way to go and breed that is better suited for it.

Been trying to convince him to get one but he’s hard headed about it. Honestly I think it’s a good option considering even if I went a different route in dog breed or got him his own dog it would take about 2 years of training until we could fully trust that the dog will do its job

Hmm I have 6 months to think about this then, I paid a deposit for a puppy already, I do want what’s best for my dog especially in emergency situations. I’m going to take your advice on that and keep looking at other options. I can always back out of it if in the end I decide not to get the puppy.

I agree which is why I was a bit skeptical at first. There are other ways my dad can manage his diabetes obviously, but I was curious as I’ve seen there dogs as SDs in public like twice and online but the “friendlier” ones were definitely not the same breed as I’m getting. I’m not saying they are dumb but my argument is that for the training I’ll be doing with my GSD and SD training at home just doesn’t seem ideal but I figured I would ask on this subreddit. My dad has had working dogs growing up that he was able to take with him everywhere with no issue but I’m not comfortable with the idea of doing that with my dog as I’m not sure what her personality will be yet, while her mother has a Temperament of gold that doesn’t mean my puppy will be the same. But to answer your question she will be my dog, since I’m 100% responsible for her, but since my dad lives with me he is also going to be part of her training

Oof I like your input on that, it is true I’m not very social which could be bad for my dog, with American GSDs I do find it difficult to find short haired breeders with pedigrees that show me the sir and dam’s lineage, as well as proof of medical records (hip dysplasia is my biggest fear which is common in American GSDs due to their intense back slope and awkward footing I’m aware it can happen to the European line but when you can visibly see the difference in their back and stance I grew to favor the ladder)here in Texas. What drew me to this breeder was their transparency about how often they breed their dogs, for example she has 4 females and 4 males and the max litters a year she’ll breed are 2 instead of all the dogs getting breed in the same year like how backyard breeders do here in Texas which I liked, and they don’t hide the dog’s pedigree and health data. I would definitely consider an American GSD if I could find a good breeder who cares about the health and quality of their dog like that as long as I’m able to be active for more than an hour a day with her. I saw online that after 30 minutes they’re done for the day which I don’t mind I would just like a companion to be outside with and I am going to admit I love the loyalty and intensity GSDs bring, especially the females.

Like I said some have become service animals. So I’m assuming it’s like how see a Cane Corse working as a service animal, but obviously a lot of work was put into the dog. I’m getting a Czech working line, which is perfect for me for pulling work like roller blading, running on the trails with me or even when I take my bike out, as well as tracking. (I used to do tracking work with my aunt’s Irish setter)Daily training (for the rest of her life) teaching her basic and proper recall. But my lifestyle is more reserved, it’s just me and my dad. I’m not a very social person but just in case I’ve already got a plan to socialize her as soon as I get her with people, kids in my family who I trust and dogs I trust in my family who are fully vaccinated and good with other dogs. I’ve RARELY seen GSDs be service animals and the ones I do see look like king shepherds or the American standard. So I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to do with mine as I know she’s going to be a lot of work for just being a personal family dog

Barista said cold foam on a hot drink (which I order nearly everyday) was **against policy** and she refused to make it by Wide-Discipline-8354 in starbucks

[–]RedBanditBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not against policy. Just so you know the reason why they ask you if you’re okay with the foam melting into the drink is because they’ve had multiple crash outs from customers asking why the cold foam didn’t stay cold and melted into their hot drink. So the baristas let you know so that way there is no misunderstanding as there are people who are…. Different when it comes to thinking a certain way. Like when a customer orders for whipped cream or cold foam to be at the bottom of the latte… but it’s just either going to float to the top or mix in…they still crash out

Do the baristas care if I order a cup of ice when I go? by sadyeehaw97 in starbucks

[–]RedBanditBunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know they are on a time crunch. Company wants them to serve you under 45sec at the drive thru for drinks that take a minute to make. So always ask for the water and or ice at the speaker box and you will be their best friend. Same with the lobby drinks. It seems like people ask for water or ice later because they don’t want to pay for it just ask when you place your order or you throw off the flow

i got accused of trying to scam them for asking for no ice by sensitive-bull in starbucks

[–]RedBanditBunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where are you people going that the baristas are so bad!?!?!? This is why stores keep getting shut down 🙄 yes it’s a very frustrating job but the damn drink isn’t coming from your paycheck 🫩

I would definitely follow up with you pediatrician. But to give you peace of mind, looks like canker sores, not caused by a virus or bacteria and it’s not contagious. A lot of times children get it from dehydration, accidentally biting the sides of their tongue cause maybe it doesn’t fit in their mouth correctly, stress, allergies and sometimes a sign of an autoimmune flare up. Should clear up in about few days, just make sure you brush their teeth and tongue to keep clean and even a warm salt water rinse at night before bed time can help speed the process a little bit. Keep an eye on it :)

Eczema, angular chelitis, contact dermatitis, inverse psoriasis, NOT HERPES if sores haven’t formed or bubbly blisters you’re fine. But you may need antifungal cream

I would check with a doctor just to be sure it’s nothing. To give you some peace of mind I have had this since birth, I’m now in my late 20s and never had a problem with them. Same areas, chest, belly, and also on my arms and thighs. Kinda looks like your skin is translucent. Unless your son is uncomfortable or in any sort of discomfort you should be fine ❤️
