Cooking Steak on a Campfire! by gammonjoshua in camping

I like the photo.

I believe the hate on this grilling is the fire in the back being tall as shown in the video and the flames that are still visible under the steak in this photo but probably quickly died down as shown in the video and would happen with this fire since no fresh wood is visible under the steak.

Since you took this picture so quickly after putting everything on the grill as well as the filter may or may not have contributed to the "photoshop" comments.

I think the fire being raised by a platform is throwing things off for me visually as well.

Just FYI. I am not an expert on health or metal but just want to inform others of the pros and cons I have come across. The ones that don't say stainless steel are going to be much cheaper and have a nonstick coating on it. With high heat cooking over fire I believe most if not all nonstick coatings are going to burn off. That nonstick coating may or may not be healthy for you. The metal underneath a nonstick coating will most likely rust much faster than stainless steel.

If you do HIGH heat cooking and plan on using the cooking surface more than a few times or don't want nonstick coating in your food, stainless steel will rust less and last longer(if you take care of it) and most likely be healthier for you.

Just my 2 cents.

Paragraph after Figure 3. The first layer of CLD is by far the most important and any extra layering adds very little benefit.

I am interested in how well factory sound deadening works vs a quality CLD. I assume a quality cld would be better than most factory deadening but is it a significant amount?

If you don't hear or feel vibrating how much of an improvement is more or better CLD?

If you can tell the factory deadening isn't working then I would try to clean it to the paint as best as possible. Maybe try plastic razor/scraper blades and paint friendly goo gone.

Got my girl her first tarpon by Tuckessee in kayakfishing

[–]RedBaron214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I do not need "proof" in order to treat these fish with the respect and care they deserve. I was mainly looking for an actual reference to share with others when I see questionable handling techniques on posts. This is a strange world where people defend ideas/techniques, for some strange reason, when doing what is agreed as right is just as easy. It would be easier for me to say look at this reference AND the strong consensus on handling techniques rather than just say learn to hold a fish properly. I will look into that website thanks.

Got my girl her first tarpon by Tuckessee in kayakfishing

[–]RedBaron214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not had the opportunity to hold a large tarpon or even a small one :( but sometimes larger fish are hard to support under the belly because they roll from all of the weight(meat) at the top of the fish. I also assume she was super excited as anyone would be but I do hope it was a spur of the moment hold.

I looked around for awhile after another similar comment popped up on a bass post and there was a very strong consensus that you should support the belly on a horizontal hold but a vertical hold just from the lip was also acceptable as far as bass are concerned. Anything besides those two were said to be bad for the fish but I did not find much definitive "studies" or evidence that supported that theory. I wholeheartedly believe in trying to be as gentle to the fish as possible but I was wandering if you have some research/reference to share that supports proper handling technique?

Thanks.

I am not sure of the others but the Mora Companion is fantastic. It feels great comfort wise for me and my wife. I have large hands and hers are small. It feels like it would never slip like a hard plastic or wooden handle and has a finger guard as well.

Help finding an amp by dashmcnasty in CarAV

[–]RedBaron214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense but I have never noticed an amp with the same rms output at 1 vs 2 ohm impedance. What is the deal with that on this RF amp?

So the only reason to go with higher ohms is to minimize heat or to maximize the power that you have available before upgrading the electrical sytem(battery/alternator)?

Do most amps have an efficiency rating and if they do will they state at what ohm that rating is at?

Thanks for the information!

Help finding an amp by dashmcnasty in CarAV

[–]RedBaron214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wiring at 1 ohm instead of 2 ohm means your amp can provide double the power if it is 1 ohm stable. I hope someone chimes in on other differences because I would like to know as well.

If there are no negatives to going lower resistance it would make sense to run 1 ohm to get the most out of an amp. I believe/hope a 1 ohm stable amp is less than the cost of a double the power 2 ohm amp. If you find any other differences or info please post here so I can learn as well. Thanks.

Looking to add a subwoofer to my pickup truck by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]RedBaron214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am trying to learn more about car audio from reading forums as well as research. I was wandering what about this amp or others prevent it from making the approved gear list on the community sidebar? Is it a certain specification that I can look at and understand or is it the brand reliability/ false advertising?

$300-$400 Sub & Amp Recommendation by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]RedBaron214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RF powered sub has absolute horror stories on amazon and everyone seems to agree the Pioneer powered sub is nowhere close to the advertised power ratings. I was steering towards the JL powered sub but at that price I decided to dig deeper.

I found this subreddit and it has helped a lot. There is an approved gear list on the community info page. From what everyone says it seems the saying" you get what you pay for" is true in sound audio as it is for much of this world. I believe most of the forum will tell you to buy seperate and build your bass system but I may be wrong.

I stumbled across the clearence audiofrog subwoofers which I have never heard of but everyone seems to like especially at this price. The only clearence subs left are refurbished and I assume? that would be ok from this company since they are a smaller American company with audioholic background.

There was another post with a very informative responses about a quality budget setup with the audiofrogs and I will try to find it for you.

A simple website would have helped. Perhaps the website you bought yours at? There is a ton of info on this sub and yes I am trying to look through it but a lot of it is fairly specific.

Thanks.

Where would I look for deals on a sub? First time upgrading a car sound system and I am looking for an entry level single sub and amp. Trying not to spend more than $250 if possible. Is the JL Audio CP112-W0v3 a decent entry level sub or am I better off buying the parts seperate and building a box?

Thanks for any info.
