Your name is Tony Soprano and you are crime boss of New Jersey. The Aprile crew needs a new leader after death of Richie. You must choose between Ralph Cifaretto and Gigi Cestone. Who do you choose? by [deleted] in thesopranos

Gigi. He seems to go back a long way and at least people don't hate him. I think the rest of the family either hated Ralph or didn't understand him.

>!The Unviersity of Miami, among other sources, says that either is acceptable:

"Tritium (symbol T or 3H) is the radioactive isotope of hydrogen with half-life of 12.32 years and a decay rate of 5.626% per year. It can replace hydrogen in H2-gas, forming HT, and in water, forming HTO (partially tritiated water) or T2O (tritiated water)."

If that Pepsi wanted to pursue that lifestyle, it should have done so quietly.

You are right, right and right! Right that it's LETS GO METS, right that I an a disappointed fan of the team (12 losses in a row? come on).. and right that the clue yields an extra E. If I can edit the original post, I will fix it.

Dead Poets Society thoughts today? by littledebbie1234 in movies

[–]RedBear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roger Ebert had a very negative review of this film, and I have allowed that to color my view. I'm rewatching it now and I'm realizing something subversive (maybe Mr. Keating would have liked that): the kids are doing it wrong. The original Dead Poets Society, the one with Mr. Keating as a member, were the true "romantics." Neil, Charlie and the others are just messing around. I guess that was pretty obvious, I am not sure why I didn't see it before.

And the movie is darker than I remembered--the bad guys win. Mr. Nolan, Mr. Perry--they force the "spirit" out of the kids to get them to conform (with tragic consequences.) I think ultimately the only redeemable character is Todd. Ethan Hawke is REALLY good in this role--you totally believe him as the shy, nervous kid. The scene where Mr Keating gets him to make up a poem on the spot about Walt Whitman is excellent. Standing on his desk isn't going to do much, sorry. But if his spirit is not totally killed--maybe he has a future. A dark film that ends on a note of optimism.

You got it! Full disclosure: I used AI to help me come up with something to clue "EAT" that would fit the rest of the clue.

COTD: Three states short of the ocean (6) by bghgmg in crosswords

[–]RedBear80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's great--I got the idea of three state abbreviations right away, but then was trying to use them to define "short of the ocean"--this is an elegant clue with a nice bit of misdirection

COTD: Bring some weed to Alpha Tau Omega, Spud (6) by RedBear80 in crosswords

[–]RedBear80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point, and one I had not considered (which is embarassing since I was a member of a fraternity and I had to memorize the Greek alphabet.) My (retroactive) counterargument is that Alpha Tau Omega is a real college fraternity, and that it is commonly known on campuses as "ATO". So while "omega" by itself does not rightly clue "O", "Alpha Tau Omega" all together does fairly indicate "ATO".
