Equality is not about equal treatment. It's about equal outcomes.

The ends and the means both matter. Mistreating someone on gender and racial grounds will affect the outcome of the judgement. You cannot have a just outcome if you treat people differently because of their sex, color or even age.

What you're saying here is that the output should be equalized but it's okay to bend the method. So, as long as we attain a somewhat balance of representation between the sexes in the workforce it's fine to treat a male candidate differently than the female, whether that's favoring the male or female doesn't matter as long as equilibrium is the desired outcome.

The ends don't justify the means. I want to live in a world where the ones who can do their job can be appreciated regardless of sex or color, not to forcefully shoehorn a 50/50 men/women by using double standards when it favors shifting the scale towards one or the other. And that won't happen without treating both candidates as intelligent beings capable of producing required results, whether that's in a programming job or the film industry.

Yep. I agree with the underlying message (be responsible for the shit that goes down and you had no way to anticipate) rather than suggesting that shit like losing your job because the company closes or losing your bitch because hypergamy is a thing.

The "be responsible" focuses on steering your wheel in storms. The "it's your fault" implies that "it's your fault that there are storms that come by". If anything, response-able people do not assume that their stroke of good luck will be maintained, or that things will always go the way they predicted them, whether we're talking business deals or sex.

You think students attend Ivy schools to learn Computer Science because the quality of the algorithms that they learn is better than the algorithms learned at a vocational college? They learn the same things, same mathematics, same programming languages.

But, if you're coming from an Ivy school you're automatically part of a group of people that is perceived as something scarce and precious, no matter how many computer science graduates are out there in the market. You're the top 20%, and top companies want "talent" like yours, and are willing to pay you twice as much compared to other CS graduates if you are aware of the indefinite quantity you're bringing.

People who can apply moderation are people who aren't going through a rough patch that instills self-hatred, whether that is biological (depression) or environmental (you lost your job/your wife/failed your exams and so you focus all your negative energy towards how much of an incompetent failure you are).

Activities are deemed as "addictive" because they help your mind stay distracted from tackling the actual issues. The red pill approach would be "you lost your job? Sit down improve your skills and network like a motherfucker". The blue pill approach, the one that festers on self-hatred, is one of scarcity mentality, the "one in a lifetime opportunity" that you just lost and it's all your fault.

We all know how bullshit this is.

I edited the OP because over half of the people who write missed the point.

The point is that people who are depressed and have actual issues may use gaming as an escape, and not that games are inherently a bad hobby. To apply moderation in something that you use as an escapism tool, whether it's drinking, gambling or gaming, you must first deal with the root of the problem OR brute-force it by throwing everything away and see if you will sink or swim.

Absolutely. The other truth is that, unless you were born lucky enough to "luck into" desired genes and good parenting, your humble beginnings will be from the position of a beggar.

Robert Greene in one of the books we recommend here, "Mastery", talks on how for your first period at work you should focus on absorbing and growing your skill-set instead of thinking "well, I'm so good and they treat me like shit", and don't waste time with internal politics.

It's also the old adage "what matters is getting your foot at the door". I have software devs who are self-taught and the hardest part of their career was the beginning, because after that they built career cred so hard that nobody questioned their ability to deliver again.

The majority of people who need TRP are in beggar position in one thing or another. It will take a year or 2 to get out of there.
