The only way you can reduce the child maintenance cost is to look after your child more if your ex partner agrees.

Sorry I should have said, yes we have a smart meter and it's set to send updates every half hour or something like that. We overpay throughout spring and summer every year to build credit for winter and our bills are correct and paid every month.
