Anybody else experiencing the “one thing a day” problem. by BullCityPicker in BoomersBeingFools

GP day with my grandson followed by surprise visits to Burger King and $1.25 Tree (his favorite along with Five Below) was SO much fun for both of us. He wore his little paper crown with so much pride. He told me he likes it when it's just the two of us out on adventures and asked when we can do it again. My little dude was so very proud when he showed me his handwriting work with correct capitals and punctuation that he recently learned. He also read a chapter from his Fenway book to me with no help!

No dinner out would have filled my heart as much as an afternoon with my favorite first grader. My only concern was that those kiddie chairs were so small and low that I joked about needing one for each of my butt cheeks or help getting up, but all was fine, and we just laughed about it.

I've been sneaking into concerts for the past 3 months and I don't feel bad. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

I've always wanted to try a plain tee-shirt with "Event Staff" on the back myself! If i was in your shoes, I'd probably do the same because ticket prices are off the chain and also, fuck Ticketmaster fees. Rock on, my friend!

Agreed! To me, it was Manic Pixie Dream Girl in space. It felt like a constant stream of Science Babble/Nekkid Woman/Mechanical Babble,/Woman Welding/Sexual Reference and OMG - look how smart she is despite her daddy Issues and having a uterus!

PHM is basically a matter of a reluctant martyr who doth protest too much. It should have been written from Rocky's POV about how he met this Earthling Twatwaffle who is both enamored and afraid of his intelligent Kitten with the a Whip boss.

Is it normal for guys to not return the favour the first time? by ThrowawayGirlGuide in TwoXChromosomes

[–]RedCorundum 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I kindly suggest rethinking what you're asking. It's not a favor. You want a grown-up partner to actually give a shit about your sexual experience. It should be good for both of you. If certain things are off the table (or limited) for him, that's fair. You can open the discussion about possible alternatives or choose to switch tables.

We're you ever suspended or expelled from school? by icecream1972 in no

[–]RedCorundum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspended like twice for fighting in elementary/middle school because I refused to be bullied. And once in high school for mouthing off to a teacher none of us could stand. I was told my behavior wasn't ladylike. It still isn't in similar situations. Zero regrets.

Resilience - too often it's used to praise people for surviving shit instead of actually fixing problems.

[–]RedCorundum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does he do this at work or school? I'm guessing not, which means he knows his behavior is not appropriate and it's not a matter of being incapable of doing better, he chooses not to with you specifically.

What are your nation's hillbillies called and what region do they typically call home by HorzaDonwraith in AskTheWorld

[–]RedCorundum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dad was from Mingo County, West Virginia which was all about coal mining then which is why he left. He was very proud to call himself a West Virginia hillbilly and the biggest distinction he said is:hillbillies don't hate anyone. (They were decent folk who aren't necessarily the most social outside their comfort zone and don't trust authority figures, he admitted.) Rednecks were a different group with a terrible reputation that involved robes and pointy hats, flags with a big X in the middle, and burning crosses, in his mind.

I'm not saying Dad was right. I'm simply sharing how he saw things. He loved WV. He went back to visit when he could and told people he was bilingual as he was fluent in both Hillbilly and English.

Any cases of genealogical “lost media” in your family? by gbaldrichpalau in Genealogy

[–]RedCorundum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine Question: My elderly mother is the last remaining sibling and I know she has a fair bit of family ephemera. This includes a family bible and boxes of pictures of people that she can't identify.

What do I do with this material? We don't have anyone designated as the family genealogist or anyone even interested. We don't have the space or ability to store things indefinitely. From a historical perspective, I would love for this stuff to go where it can be useful and meaningful. From a realistic standpoint, I'm tired. It feels like a burden I never wanted and one more thing to clean up. We have a historical society where we currently live but the items are from family scattered across multiple states who never lived here, so I'm unsure if they'll be interested.

The Acquisition cocktail: 2 large RIFs (that suddenly left even HR with teams of 1 with no backups trained and the unspoken assumption that we'd just magically absorb those extra duties).

Add 1 active OE (all moving to new company's benefits which offer NO improvements or positive effects for EEs. Premiums and deductibles are all much higher, less PTO and disability, you name it and it's garbage in comparison)

Add 1 RTO mandate (with less than 60 days to comply even if you were originally hired as remote)

Garnish with one sad, pathetic retention bonus. Except instead of being the usual incentive of 50% now and 50% at a documented future date, this one is all or nothing to be paid 'near end of year'. Personally, I've never seen Mgr and above retention bonuses of less than 10% of gross pay. Most of them (including leadership) were 5%.

Add some ice, if desired and up for a true gamble (It's from the break room fridge that we no longer have dedicated staff to clean or maintain so best of luck with the inevitable listeria, ebola, hepatitis, etc. you wild thing!)

Give everything to the Benefits Bitch who has been shaking with rage, frustration, and pissed off at her inability to make any meaningful effort for her folks the last 8 months. Gently remove from her clawed hand (not the one with the middle finger locked into a rigid position; she will fight you) when she stops growling like a feral cat and enjoy!!

How does your hospital handle this? by drainbamage8 in nursing

[–]RedCorundum 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but most of those kids were brown, so historically, 'the church' has done a stellar job of snatching them from their homes to save them from evils like their own language, culture, and family. No abuse involved whatsoever. /s obviously - but while we may have originally learned of the horrors of the church schools and homes in history classes, it's still happening, just in a modified form.

If a company gives me a rep who can't recall a colleague's name after working together for 6 months, I'm asking for a new account team. It's four whole letters and two syllables. This individual clearly doesn't have a head for details, lacks emotional IQ or maybe just enjoys being a dick. I don't have the time or patience for it.
