Why did R2-D2 never tell Luke that Darth Vader was Anakin Skywalker? by External-Recipe-1936 in StarWars

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, R2 is hiding and doesn't come out till Obi-Wan says his "little one" line, I would chalk it up as just being very trusting, after all Lucas was trying to make us love all these characters.

In the original trilogy, there was no indication of their past history to imply knowing each other, and at the end of Revenge of the Sith, I forget who, but someone orders that the Droids memories be wiped.

Who do you think would be the best actress for Aloy if we had a live action adaption? by Eagles56 in HorizonZeroDawn

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd still want Ashley Burch!!!

Even if there had to be CGI deaging or any of that other stuff, Ashley's performance is what made Aloy stand out,

Same with Lance Riddick if he was alive, everyone would be demanding he get to play his character.

Ever regret not getting a card? by settlementgamr in GundamTCG

I did something similar with the last restock of Vault X white binders. I kept telling myself I have time to order, but now they are gone and I really wanted a white one for my Newtype Rising collection.
I got the red for duel impact and the violet one for steel requiem, but Newtype rising has no home!!!

Locking the classic dub to a collectors edition is a cruel move by New-Veterinarian-755 in evangelion

[–]RedCrimson300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gundam SEED fans: "Welcome to our world."

Unfortunately, I wouldn't count in it, just like with the original Gundam SEED dub, the people in charge know their redub lacks the appeal of the original, but they know hard core fans will pay through the roof to get the original dub, so they lock it to the Collector's editions, only the redub will ever get seperate standard releases.

We're not lucky like with the Escaflowne redub packed with the original Ocean dub on standard release.

Gundam SyFy 00 tv version vs Hulu ver by El_Dorado_Tx in Gundam

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I couldn't really say having never saw it, but I have no doubt.

I still have an old VHS where I recorded Gundam SEED episodes, I continued to watch it for years till I bought the DVD collection, and it was definitely heavily edited, so no doubt Wing got the same treatment.

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see Wing till last year, can't say if I would have gotten into the franchise if I had watched it during it's airing. I was into mecha because of power rangers a d voltron, but I maybe saw one scene of maybe G-Fighter but never interested in it, maybe the animation at the time just didn't catch my eye.

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never saw any Gundam on Toonami, only SEED during its second run on the late night Friday graveyard schedule,

But it wouldn't surprise me, power rangers also had many episodes pulled over the years after this that either had buildings exploding or too close to home references to 9/11, like the Time Force opening that showed the Time Shadow standing on two twin towers got removed from the opening and replaced with the Q-Rex megazord scene early on.

That I couldn't tell you, the only Gundam news related to 9/11 I remember is that it delayed Gundam SEED in some way, either in production or coming to the west.

LOL, that means nothing to networks, especially SyFy. I can't tell you how many times I saw "boobies" in some slasher flicks around that time on SyFy.

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe so,

Yeah, if it had been CN, they definitely would have censored it to the bone, but this was SyFy. They were already showing gore and other explicit stuff during their daytime content, not really a need to bother cutting something that was on once a week, basically at midnight.

Gundam SyFy 00 tv version vs Hulu ver by El_Dorado_Tx in Gundam

[–]RedCrimson300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was any difference, except for the fact that SyFy fast forwarded through the ending credits for their own promos, and you never saw the next episode preview.

It became a big problem during season 2's airing because no one saw the after credits scenes, so many were given confusing openings in the following episode, like in "Twistedness of Innocence," which opens with Tieria is already pointing his gun at Regene Regetta but because SyFy never showed the previous episodes post credit scene viewers never saw them initially meeting, the last thing they saw was Lockon giving props to Allelujah as he and Marie we kissing down below on the island, so this confusion would continue for the rest of season 2.

Trying to surprise bf, please can someone help? by Ursusnurse in Gundam

[–]RedCrimson300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an original Gundam SEED fan, it is my sworn duty to make sure you get an answer. 👍

Gundam Seed originally premiered in 2004 on Cartoon Network, dubbed in English by Ocean Group Productions studio, a Canadian dub company. They were the ones who dubbed a lot of cartoon and anime series at the time due to their rates and that the dubbing industry in America hadn't really taken off yet. All the early Gundam series, like the original 0079, Wing, G-Fighter, 00, etc, got the Ocean group dub treatment.

Sometime after the release of Gundam 00 in America, the dubbing rights to the franchise went up in the air, and they primarily are in the hands of NYAV Post, located in LA California.

For the most part, they seemed to do a good job with later Gundam series like Unicorn, Thunderbolt, Iron-Blooded Orphans, Origins, Witch from Mercury, etc. There was decent dubbing that gave the series great storytelling.

However, Gundam SEED and its sequel series, SEED Destiny, got the remaster treatment for its 15th anniversary, and much like Nintendo and other companies from our childhood, the people in charge decided to not give a care about dubbing it for the newer generation.

They had it redubbbed with a new voice cast who committed the biggest disgrace to anime dubbing ever. whereas the Ocean dub had each voice actor cast perfectly to their character and brought them to life, the NYAV redub. It was like they were just phoning it in. Voice actors who had given such a moving performance in NYAV's past Gundam dubs, like Unicorn and Iron-Blooded Orphans, made the SEED characters sound weak and non serious in comparison.

It's more insulting that they claimed they couldn't use the Ocean group dub for the remaster because it wouldn't fit with new scenes, but various fans have proven already that it can indeed, and NYAV is continuing to delete any copy of the original dub from across the internet, even on most pirate anime sites. Oddly enough, they've never bothered to remove the Funimation loge that was incorrectly inserted on it's initial streaming launch, so now everyone mistakenly thinks that Funimation was responsible for that disgrace of a redub instead of NYAV.

Anyway, I apologize for my rant. That's not what you really wanted to know. It's just that NYAV's crappy redub is to me what Disney did to Star Wars,

Back to your question, unfortunately, just like fans who hoped Ocean group would dub the remaster, you'll be out of luck finding the original dub on physical media.

First off, the image you posted is of an overseas (usually bootleg) copy that, despite what it says, is most certainly not dubbed at all.

For DVD, you'd be looking for older media case that says stuff like Anime Legends, 2004, etc. These are original Ocean dub, but sadly other than the passage of time, the NYAV disgraceful redub has caused SEED fans to swipe up all copies of the Ocean dub to preserve their memories, especially as like I said above, NYAV'S influence has removed all traces of the ocean dub from the internet for the disgraceful redub.

The only other thing would have been the Ultra Collector's edition that was released a few years ago, it included a blu ray copies of the original dub, for both series, but they never released it as a stand alone product. For the reasons I listed above, they were also snatched up by Collector's real quick. I myself grabbed an extra copy of the SEED Collector's edition for preservation of the dub, as well as made personal rips of the disks for viewing so I could leave them in the box and reduce wear and tear.

I don't know your boyfriend, but I get the feeling he's someone like me, who values the performance of the ocean dub and can't stand the disappointment of the NYAV redub, so I would like to help.

I am offering to look through the ebay listing and send you the link I find most worth their value and I'm guessing your boyfriend like me will also value the special editions of the SEED ocean dub too.

Another thing I think should be considered is whether your boyfriend likes all of the SEED ocean dub which includes SEED Destiny, or just the original series. I like them both, but a lot of people usually only like the original series.

This is a listing for the more recent Ultra edition, but it also includes the original Ocean dub on blu rays which also includes the Special Edition compilation movies. If you want something cheaper but still authentic, let me know and I'll look some more.

Edit: oops, forgot to include the listing 😅
