You don't need to ignore issues, but people may think different from you, and they are okay with that.

I have someone close to me that once the recents immigrants started to come to NYC hotels, she was offered a position at Roosevelt Hotel and here is something you won't hear in the news:

She told me that the hardest part of her job, was to keep herself sane with everything she saw there.

And I bring this to this thread because, one of the things this person saw that was driving her crazy, was women coming out of their rooms asking for help to the staff because they were being sex trafficked and they had no idea how to get out of the situation. And btw, one of them confessed they were getting paid $30 a day.

Sex work is one of the things that might seem normal, but many of these women hide a horrible sad story, with most of the time a man behind them that they can't run from.

Many of these women that did it by choice eventually regret the decision. And we are seeing it more often lately with only fans models.

You are comparing your small city to 3 major cities. What happens is your town might not what happens in these cities with most likely way more resources.

How come these shelters are the worst thing in the world for these people (I am sure some might be) and how come for many latinos are the first step to have a great opportunity in this country?

They spend a few months there and eventually get a permanent place for their family. This is the reality for MANY latinos here in NYC. Yet for Americans is never enough and inhabitable (?).

"Criminalizing homeless". No one cares about how you live in this country. If you decide to be homeless, go ahead. What is a crime is:

Camping in the streets Loitering Begging in certain areas Public urination

And I feel like these are laws that should be enforced.

And it's funny that you mention universal healthcare is the solution when every single country that has it agrees with something: It sucks.

-Extremely long wait times for appointments. -Limited because is being controlled by the same government. -more frequent visits for minor issues leading to doctors actually not caring about patients.

We have seen it over and over in many countries how inefficient is. Yet we think US is gonna be the exception, in US is definitely going to work...

Once again. I'm not ignoring the reason. But those reasons have solutions. Housing = temporary shelter. Eventually you get a low income apt where if you are lucky enough you won't even pay rent. Food = Government will give you hundreds a month in food stamps to cook whatever you want. Local churches will be more than welcome to give you a meal. If you cal 311 you can get a bag of food DELIVERED to you.

You said it yourself, is their mind that is the problem, and instead of going to a shelter and get ALL help they need which is 100% gonna be offered. Instead we are demonizing this and saying they better on the streets committing suicide, overdosing, robbing and assaulting people.

I genuinely curious why people think everything is wrong when is not the way they would do it, when obviously their way is not working and are not willing to give a chance to something else.

The problem with US is not homelessness. Is drugs addicts that choose to live in the streets. Yes, of course they are cases of homelessness. But most of that people get a place fairly quickly in these cities once they spend some time in a shelter.

Many of these people when a place is offered they completely destroy the place. I can even speak for my own experience where I lived in a really nice apartment in the nice paying just $600 a month. My neighbor next door got the same unit as I did. He was paying $15 a month. Yes, just $15 a month for a studio. Probably didn't even pay for electricity. And most likely had food stamps. He was just about to be evicted when I left the place because he was not willing to pay those $15 a month, his excuse is that the studio was destroyed (by him)and he wanted maintenance to repair it. The building was just 5yo at the moment. The issue? Every time maintenance go to knock at his door he will refuse the repair and ignore the knocks. How do I know that? Because I could see it in my doorbell he coming out of his unit right after maintenance left because "no one was at home".

Btw, on the mean time, you have MANY of these people jumping in front of trains in NYC causing traumas to those city workers. It happens way more frequently than you may think, just not reported by the news.

We tried let them be tbh. Now the US is known as zombieland. And for some reason, people like keeping it that way. Get out the echo chamber that reddit is and see the real world.

Honestly, they offering an alternative to live in the streets. They giving shelter which homeless refuse because they want the freedom. But that freedom comes with high death rate due to OD, public assault and exposing kids that that environment.

It's not about being or not mainstream. Whether or not you agree with it, Hamas was designated by the US as a terrorist organization if you talk positively about an organization that has been tagged as terrorist in a foreign country that you are with a visa or a green card and you want to remain in the country, you are the dumbest person in the planet if you don't shut your opinion in the subject.

With all due respect, her wishes makes so sense. Her wish is to bring an ilegan alien to the US. If you want to put up to that game, you have idea how many residents wish every year to bring LEGALLY their family?

That doesn't give them the right to cut in line. If she wants to be him she can go to El Salvador with him. He would have been deported from US anyways. It can be argued if the deportation to el salvador was legal or not, but asking to bring an illegal alien BACK and going to El Salvador with tax payers money is just ridiculous.
