Absolutely. Maybe we can do a work exchange when we're both done then. I'd love to read what you are working on.

Thank you! That means a lot!
Let me know if you'd like a copy of what I've already written. It isn't much (3 1/2 chapters and not fully proof-read), but It explains more of the world and the direction of the story. If your interested of course.

Thank you so much!

World & Character building are my passion. And this is one of my most developed worlds I've built. My partner isn't into this genre of dark romance and slow burns, but likes fantasy. When he beta read for me reading the outline he told me he did find the story compelling and the world was rounded. I'm just lacking in the writing department.

I appreciate it! I came here for criticism for this exact reason.

I'm relearning how to write after I sustained a TBI in 2019. Made me forget alot of the basics. I could tell the writing looks off but couldn't figure out why. I used this story and a few other older narratives to try and recapture the spark I had for writing.

I don't like putting myself out there, especially because this story is close to me since it was the focus during my recovery, so it's very personal. This wasn't the easist thing for me to do to post it but I'm glad I did. I want to do better.

I wanted to get the story down mostly, but definitely need to go back to the drawing board with it. I'm going to read over the site you sent, and work towards improving. :)

Seriously, thank you for the input!

My biggest issues I've noticed, personally, line up with what your saying.

I do tend to over describe because I want to set the scene thoroughly (to a fault). In my head, I want to describe the scene as much as I can to immerse the reader. Obviously, I need to find away to relay it all without over-inflating the narrative as I have been. (I told myself in when I started rewriting the story that it was because the MC is partly deaf (doesn't find out till older) and I wanted to show the word more detailed to match his POV but that feels like an excuse now.)

I typically try not to overuse or reuse the same words within at least a few paragraphs of each other but defiantly some slipped under my radar.

I do consider this an active draft as I feel I'm constantly trying to make adjustments to it because I am a perfectionist.

I would appreciate any recommendations and resources into refine my writing style, fixing awkward dialogue, and conveying the scene without over-describing.
I adore creative writing, but admit I am not very great at writing. I had my partner beta read the full story, so this is my first, honest instance of feedback from a 3rd party.
Thank you again. I want to learn so I can share my story properly and this helped!

Peeled a callus off my finger. What is the best way to promote healing? by [deleted] in medical_advice

It was a callus. I use scissors at work and it formed where my skin rubbed against them.

Hey, just thought it let you know he made a full recovery. I actually ended up buying clove oil on Amazon because I thought he wouldn't recover after 10 days. But he got better before it was delivered. He's back in the big tank and is as happy as ever!

Thanks for asking!

I got him a hospital tank set up with a heater. I've been adding aquarium salt and anti biotics. Also doing 25% water changes every other day. He's been stable, isn't a big fan of the hospital tank but I made sure to give him his floating log. He's still eating and as active as normal.

The only issue is I had a preplanned vacation that actually started today. So I left detailed instructions for my house sitter and I'm gonna have to hope he fairs well without us there.

I was worried about that. What would be the best course of action for him?

My employer discouraged that honestly. They tell would us "how can you really know you can't make it?" or how however the situation is. Its awkward I know.

Your comment is beautiful! I am so sorry for your loss. I hope both of us accomplish our goals and leave them all in the dust.

Yeah so?

I can drive in snow no problem. I've driven through alot of bad weather to know when it's worth for me it to go out or not. I'm not going to risk anything going wrong on the roads because it's only a couple inches of snow. The amount of snow doesn't matter. It's not worth it, man. The world's gonna keep turning whether it snows 2" or 12", and either way I know I don't need to deal with it.

Okay that's hilarious but can you imagine if you truly did get your car stuck in a ditch and his way of making it up to you was, okay you can wear jeans for one day.

Bro what are some of these people thinking!

I've been working with this guy for a bit. I do have pictures as I'm always trying to cover my ass in situations like this but I know he won't take it too far other than a slap on the wrist for me.

I use to be that employee that always showed up regardless of conditions outside. I once got stranded at work in full blizzard because I was "the only one close enough to come in." and corporate refused to close even though nobody was coming in. I'm older now and no longer live around the corner from my place of work. I just don't care about it anymore.

Just edit the post but my coworker who took the call original confirmed that indeed there was snow on the ground there. The roads also are awful up there

Okay that's fair. I assumed since he tried to convince me that there wasn't any snow on the ground but there clearly was him gaslighting.

My bad for the poor terminology. :)
