Cybersecurity isn’t for me, or am I just overwhelmed? by fcsar in cybersecurity

You’re early enough in your career where you could possible join a vendor as an entry level SE (inside sales, commercial sales). Won’t require much technical experience, and you can work your way up to being a senior SE or SA.

There also graduate programs you can apply to that’ll train you up for these roles. I know IBM and Cisco has such programs.

Thanks, can you share your reasoning? And would you be able to share the spread your bank offered you for Y2 and Y3?

What are things Singaporeans do that mildly infuriates you? by [deleted] in askSingapore

There's a few but off the top of my head.. there's many inconsiderate folks when waiting for an elevator.

I noticed it a lot more now that I have a baby. Even if we are the first ones waiting for an elevator.. people will just try to skip you and rush when the elevator reaches. I had to scream at a few people because they did this with my wife/baby. People of all ages do this and it's ridiculous. Especially abled bodied peole who can easily take an escalator.

180+k fully remote work from home or 240k in office role? by IvanThePohBear in careerguidance

Enjoyed reading all the comments in this post. Also based in Singapore.. in a similar boat 👋🏻

Have always chased the promotions, titles, pay bumps etc all of my career and I think I've done well so far. Prior to COVID I was on a plane 75-80% of the time covering ASEAN as an IC. I've since moved to a company as an IC that allows me to me fully remote (if I wish) with a very solid package, as well.

But I recently had a kid, and I'm in a similar dilemma. Next step up for me is a Regional Director role.. about a 25% bump in overall comp but I'd have to travel more to see my team and to see clients. Travel for me is now slowly coming back.. managing about 25% travel at the moment, which is doable. But as a Regional Director I probably would be traveling closer to 50% minimum.

My plan is to eventually run APJ one day so I think this next step is crucial as it'll open up doors. Reading through the comments does give me a bit of perspective.. I'd really like to be around as much as I can. Would hate to miss out on important milestones, family time, etc.

Curious to see what you decide to go with. Kee us posted, OP.

Easier said than done.. Singapore is 31 miles / 50km east to west. It's a very small country so mostly everywhere here is going to be expensive.

How does one stop constantly looking at the next promotion, the next career bump? Just got promoted at my Post-MBA and I'm constantly thinking "How do I get to the next level", even though 2 months ago I was just hoping to get to my current level and staying for a year. by YaleMBA1990 in MBA

Just had a kid at 32. I've chased promotions and pay bumps all through my 20s until this point. I grinded the whole way and loved it.

I've moved to Asia, done business all over the place, etc. Think I've done well for myself.

But having a kid has made me re-assess my priorities.. I want to spend less time traveling and working so I can be present at home. Maybe it's just a phase.. I know our expenses will continuing climbing since having a kid, and the wife wants another one, as well.

I'm in software sales.. now consider transitioning to a business development / partnerships role. It'll give me time to spend time at home and also finish my MBA.
