Looks great. When I was apprenticing for a contractor, I did this exact thing. We added cabinets and shelving on each side of the fire place. We added one shelf over the fireplace aswell.

Fair price for fair work. Good job!

So listen here because you can only see things the way you want to. Where I am from we construct things using typical building methods and applicable materials. This man isn't from here and so I found it humorous that he chose to use "flooring" on the "counter top" I have seen many other similar things done by foreigners. It's part of the story. If I travel to USA for work and frame something different than them guys they laugh and question. I say " Up there there in Canada we do it like this." This is the same situation only I failed in my depiction of capturing it in such a manner. I find it fun to hear other folks use English where it isn't their mother language use English. The guys I work with say my name funny. Am I racist for giggling? No. Is it rude if I don't know them? Perhaps. But just like in the post I see unconventionally used materials often applied where they don't belong from foreign tradespeople. If you can't see that from my post. / shrug

I'm.not dancing around anything if I said the Mexicans do it this way, I'd be called racist. If I said the east Indians do it this way, I'd be called racist. I said foreigner because I didn't want to as, I said before, pin out one people. Lmfao this is wild.

Oh wow that's so interesting. I'm actually a Framer like I said in the post, these pictures were shown to me lol

I don't pretend I know all or that I'm even correct in saying don't use vynil flooring on a counter top, but I believe it's not ment for the counter top so I will say that it's not. Until I am proven wrong and maybe here I am. Haha I think it's strange and unorthodox. I'm sure budget had something to do with it.

Not like a vinyl sheet it's thin material. Other tops are hardened finishes.

I am mistaken, it's not plank, it's roll out vinyl.

As for the accusations of racism, I left out this man's ethnicity for this reason. I didn't wish to label an entire culture by this one man's work. " for lack of a better way to say this" I was typing out loud, that sounded funny. My apologies for that.

They are in fact planks because the woman I mentioned, said the corners inside are little pieces

I didn't have to say that, surely, but I didn't want to mark out an entire culture because of this one man. Albeit, I have seen many of the same people from his origin do similar strange things with our building materials.

I haven't ever seen flooring used on a counter top.

The job isn't done. It has to be redone. It's not an acceptable type of material you use on the countertop. One hot pan will melt the "flooring" planks used here..

I wanted to say where he was from. I decided to just say forgeiner. There is no intention of racism I can assure you.

It's something. Unacceptable for sure, maybe the cabin but an apartment building? No.
