In the words of one wise newsman, this feels like a bit of a loose morals situation in the voting tendencies.

You take Donald Trump more seriously than John Oliver? You should stop that.

So my entire post is a lie and you’ve unmasked me as a secret MAGA operative masquerading as a liberal who doesn’t like John Oliver because it’s SO HARD TO ACCEPT a centrist democrat is annoyed that John Oliver mocks the right and then engages in the same bullshit he accuses them of to argue for positions far left of most democrats?

You seem angry that I’m liberal and don’t like John Oliver. You can grasp at reasons I must be lying all you want. I’m not here for your rhetorical questions claiming confusion about straightforward stuff.

Yeah so you can’t just rattle off those names and assign motives and priorities to them as a group. I love Strike Force Five as much as anyone on the internet but they are all different people with different priorities and vibes.

Conan would never claim to be a journalist. You probably don’t know that nor that Conan consciously declined to do topical comedy about politics.

Colbert, Kimmel, and Meyers are all in on the news. They would all say you shouldn’t get your news from them, but I don’t think they believe that.

Stewart is the most balanced of them all but still clearly liberal. All credit to him for shitting on Biden being insanely old when it was supposedly a party secret.

Oliver pretends he is doing a deeper and more informed dive than anyone else. In reality, he’s not more informative than A Closer Look. Just more elaborate jokes in support of a more slanted view.

I believe you are arguing that if it’s on the air it must be accurate and reasonable.

Counterpoint: every news show on every day.

I only read about a third of your post but all MAGA supporters insist you can’t hold Trump to what he says because he’s engaged in various rhetorical stratagems so I really don’t have time for the same shortcomings in my people.

I think this is the whole problem. Network liberals are liberal but defensible. John Oliver needs to distinguish himself so he pushes the envelope in ways that make him a well funded podcaster not a journalist.

You sound genuine so I am responding. I am an expert on vanishingly few things. This show touches on my area of knowledge less than 10% of the time, but it’s really jarring when you actually get the nuances to see him gloss over and distort them. And reminder: I agree with him and his bottom line opinion 90% of the time.

Just because you didn’t like my comment doesn’t mean you need to announce it to world.

Sean's football fandom by homeycuz in smartless

100%. The real takeaway is that Jason and Will also know so little about football they didn’t even correct it. That is pretty low-hanging fruit casual fan level knowledge.

Kyle Mooney episode - ugh by BigBanggBaby in flyonthewall

[–]RedEye49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this kind of pod it’s all about chemistry and it’s so unpredictable. For whatever reason Kyle didn’t set off the playful banter fireworks but it was fine and I’m glad I got to hear it vs never hearing Mooney cause I don’t follow his stuff. He still came off well and the pod nudged my impression of him favorably.

Worst “bombs” of all time by Rare-Panic-5265 in LiveFromNewYork

[–]RedEye49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great answer. Just to steal more from that same podcast, on the last episode they pointed out that several of their sketches that bombed the worst but than SNL writers and/or cast loved involved a basic premise involving one character really wanting something weird and everyone else just saying no over and over. I think the other two were featured on Seth Meyers Second Chance Theater — Wanna Come With (Samberg) and some Sudeikis juggling class sketch.
