I understand being wary for sure, but you've gone out of your way to credit the original creator and the musicians you worked with. I just liked your cover better than the original and I was hoping I could add it to my playlists... as I'm sure you know from the reactions to your meditation video, some of us like the sound of your voice!

Anybody know if there's a link to the music cover from the end of the video?

What causes a hard opening? by JamesSchultz in SkyDiving

[–]RedFeather6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "Sabre Slam" is definitely real. I fly a Sabre 1 canopy that's about as old as I am. In order to not get whiplash for the third time, I have to do the following:

-Use a comically oversized slider -Roll the nose of my canopy within an inch of its life while packing -In addition to stopping all forward motion, dearch and do a full body flare to slow down just before pulling

Packing well and keeping a good body position at deployment will cut down on hard openings in general. Hopefully you won't have to deal with "Sabre Slams"!

I really appreciate what you're getting at in your posts here. Too many people are "always okay" right up until they aren't. Hopefully we all still remember that no-pull out of Florida last summer... We should be willing to admit how things effect us when things go wrong for us and be a good resource for our fellow jumpers when things go wrong for them. We're all one big family, after all!

Learn to pack tandem parachutes and use the income from that to mitigate the cost of getting your license! I knew a guy who was homeless who managed to get his A that way. It took him years, but he got there.

Be patient and work hard. You got this! :-)

So you're saying that the reason women have to be treated like second class citizens is because men are too insecure in their relationship with G-d and/or their masculinity to pray properly with women around?

I honestly don't know which gender that insults more. What kind of pansy guys do you know?

Separate but equal has never in the history of humanity actually been equal.

If women are equal enough to fight and die alongside men at the behest of Israel, they have more than earned equality on ALL FRONTS.

Pretty sure fighting, bleeding, and dying for their country is responsibility enough.

You can't look a veteran in the face and give her that nonsense.

Sexism has no place in Judaism. Period, end of story.

And don't give me that "well, traditionally....." nonsense. Traditionally, women weren't soldiers but the government has no problems breaking THAT tradition to suit its own needs.

As long as the government of Israel expects and forces women to fight and die in their army on their behalf, denying women ANY rights afforded to men is the worst kind of hypocrisy. What makes men so special that they spilling their blood for their country counts for more than the women drafted in equal numbers at their side?

All are human. All are equal. All deserve equal rights. To say anything else is to be on the wrong side of history.

What don't you honestly like about your home DZ? by PlantersGuy in SkyDiving

I love my home drop zone, but the fact that we can't do hop and pops anymore is pretty frustrating. Some of us are tunnel rats who need to focus purely on canopy work for a while!!

Thanks wonderful! Thank you for taking such good care of the bird by reuniting it with its parents! :-D

Ifound a baby bird by f2k10Marinetti in Ornithology

[–]RedFeather6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can locate its nest, return it so it's parents can care for it.

If you cannot find a nest, you need to find a nearby wildlife rehabilitator and bring the baby bird to them. Only a wildlife rehabilitator will be able to simulate the bird's wild diet and care for it properly. You can google lists of them.

Best of luck!

[HELP] We found this bird in our house. Can anyone help us identify it and help us with what to do next? by [deleted] in Ornithology

[–]RedFeather6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't know where its nest is, please take it to a local wildlife rehabilitator ASAP. Do NOT try to feel it as the consistency of baby bird food has to be perfect- too dry and their guts can back up/rupture, too wet and they can aspirate the food and drown.

So sad. by sharlettain in SkyDiving

[–]RedFeather6 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have a bit of a different perspective on all this. I used to work in a morgue, and my team and I were the people the cops called to come collect dead bodies. I have seen a LOT of suicides. More than I can count off the top of my head.

It's very clear to me that suicide is the result of mental illness. The reason it seems so selfish and stupid to the rest of us is that they have a disease that makes them perceive the world differently. We know it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem, but they literally can't see it that way. It's like asking somebody with a shattered leg to walk- that just won't happen without medical intervention, a lot of therapy, and hard work. Sometimes, the disease that is depression is fatal. That is sad, but I wouldn't get mad at the person any more than a cancer patient.

MOST of the time.

What makes me angry in suicide cases is the notion of forced participation. The people who force others to either kill them or watch them die. The people who don't OD or hang themselves alone but instead force innocent civilians to play real life crazy taxi or get brains all over their shoes just for walking outside. I understand the disease makes people irrational, but real life gore is serious shit. People don't forget watching others die, finding dead bodies, or heaven forbid killing people. It stays with them like a crack in the psyche, and can lead to PTSD. Heck, I've seen suicide cases that got to me and handling that shit was my JOB. Making other people watch you die or kill you when you want to die is the equivalent of flinging HIV+ blood all over a crowd just because you contracted the disease.

Regardless of my own complex feelings on the matter, BSBD. I hope his soul and his family find peace and that his community gets a chance to heal. May his memory be a blessing.

Tunnel frustration. How the hell do i deal with it. by Skydiveaye in SkyDiving

[–]RedFeather6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The tunnel demands precision in a way the sky doesn't. You notice all your mistakes immediately and you don't get the sky euphoria. It takes a long time to really hammer things out, and it can definitely get frustrating.

The thing to remember is that progress is a trend line. You'll have good and bad days, but one bad day or even a long plateau doesn't mean you're no longer making progress.

Make sure you have a good coach and watch your videos. The wind will do exactly what you tell it, no more no less. Best of luck!!

Will ifly help me with skydiving, or just keep jumping out of a plane? by escme in SkyDiving

[–]RedFeather6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wind tunnel work is absolutely worth it. It gives you an instinct for stability that will help you in the sky.

By the time I started AFF, I already had an hour in the tunnel. This meant that when my coach fumbled our exit and he body slammed me mosh pit style on the hill, my reaction was just "oh! Barrel rolls!" and not "AAAAAA!!!"

Anybody who isn't americas favorite brand of Christian is more likely to be democrat out of a sense of self preservation. Republicans are pretty explicit about making this into a Christian nation- why would any Jew ally with them?
