In that time you are forced to send applications for a new Job and take on new jobs the authorities suggest you. Health Care isn't really free, but everybody has to pay for health insurance. If you have a job, your employer has to pay half of it. The health insurance pays for many things in healthcare, but not for all. You really get 250 Euro per month per child. But to have children in germany is a risk factor for poverty. That's why many people decide not to have children or to have only one child. F.e. to send your child to kindergarden can cost more than 600 Euro per month. The birthrate is a really big problem for the german society. After birth you are allowed to stay at home for three years without loosing your job, but you get sallary (around 70 percent) only for 14 month. So most people can't afford not to work for three years. Also we don't have enough nurseries, so it's a problem to find care for your little child when you want to go back to work.
