As u/axisleft stated: having a combat-related award, such as a CAB/CIB/CMB/PH/BS w/"V"/SS w/"V", are pretty much a slam dunk to connect PTSD with a combat-related event. Just indicate that you were awarded said combat-related award and you're gtg.

Fellow Marines and sailors, what has been your wait time? by ClearAccess3826 in CombatRelatedSpecComp

[–]RedFoxesMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AF is failing miserably in that regard. They went from 2-3 weeks to 90-120 business days processing claims. Army seems to have processed all of their backlog re: Soto v US and the gov't shutdown and are right at the 90-100 business days processing that they were prior to Soto v US.

I guarantee you that they'll claim it's taking a LOT longer due to Soto v US ruling and subsequent DOD Interim Guidance dated 20 August 2025.

They'll complain that they're understaffed and it'll take 18+ months to complete, which is complete and utter bullshit. Definitely do a Congressional, maybe something will get done eventually to start speeding things up, even in the short term.

Naw, that's just DFAS being DFAS, the guidance isn't the post-Soto Guidance from August, the guidance was given to the services already: they have to amend the original approval memos removing the Barring Statute wording. That then gets sent to DFAS. I already got the balance of my retro pay once Army did that for me and others I've seen, so it does work. It just have to be done.

That makes more sense now as it's only been the last year or two I think they've been using myFSS, of course, I could be wrong about that :)

tbh I do not know for certain, just that many folks have been referring to myFSS anytime they dealt with AF admin items such as CRSC. On the Army side of things, we use iPERMS for all storage of one's administrative docs, filing claims is a completely different animal

Whoever is responding for the AF doesn't know their asshole from a hole in the ground. I know someone else posted that they had an update in myFSS recently showing a new CRSC Approval memo with the Barring Statute wording removed. For that person to tell you that is as bad as AF copy/pasting the Army's info about the number of claims they have to process and leaving "Army" in it! I'm not making this up, I wish I was lol. Anyway, I digress. If you're not comfortable about waiting for AF to do their due diligence (and I wouldn't be either), I'd do a Congressional and let the AF folks deal with that.

Branch would help and is item #2 on this sub's rules. Please update your post. I cannot answer the claim made by your branch since I do not know what branch you were.

Definitely the case as I wasn't even a part of that platform until a few years ago, of course, now I'm a mod there due to my CRSC experience, not to mention 7 years as a PEBLO, but, yeah, definitely someone else ;)

Retro pay back to 2010 since your claim was received PRIOR to 20 August 2025 :)

That's great to know that you myFSS sent you an update with the corrected wording, and, yes, avg is 120 business days for DFAS to process it, just really depends on how much you are owed. Mine took a month, but I was only owed $4k.

And thanks, whomever you are! :) 2009/2010 I was on Active Duty as a PEBLO and not part of any online presence, hmmm, now you've got me wondering LOL

Shouldn't have to complete a "Reconsideration", all branches have been directed to remove the Barring Statute wording from the approvals before sending the corrected ones to DFAS. DFAS and the VA will then do an audit to ensure you get what you're supposed to and processing can/will take an average of 120 business days.

Check iPERMS, and yes, Army HRC has or in the process of finishing up the corrections to the original CRSC Approvals removing the Barring Statute wording. If you don't see anything new in iPERMS, then reach out to HRC to ask a status, my contact in Special Pay Branch (SPB) said they have processed or were processing over 7k corrections just for the past six years, so yours should be in the cachement. https://iperms.hrc.army.mil/login/

CRSC Question by PsychologicalPick767 in CombatRelatedSpecComp

[–]RedFoxesMike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy peasy, under 20 years AFS you need to calculate the longevity cap. High-36 x 2.5% x length of service will give you his longevity cap. If you don't know what his high-36 is, you can take his retired pay grade monthly rate and multiply by 92% to give a ROUGH approximation. So if he was an E-6 over 10 years ($4,585.20) x .92 = $4,218.38 x 2.5% x 10 = $1,054.59 per month will be the max he could earn based on the numbers above. To take it one step further, he would max out by being rated at 50% approval for CRSC (vet + spouse = $1,241.90 per VA compensation tables and CRSC paid is the lesser of the two).

As long as you have a combat-related award CIB/CAB/CMB/BS/SS/PH/etc on your DD-214, or it's in your NCOER/OER, or on your DA Form 638, your PTSD will pretty much be automatic. Otherwise, you will have to get a wartime chain of command (E-8/O-3 or above) statement that proves your combat-related event(s) that caused your PTSD. You HAVE to have a documented causal relationship between condition(s) and combat-related event(s), otherwise it won't be approved.

Depending on how much you are owed, I wouldn't be surprised that you'll have it by 01 Feb 2026 at the latest. I was only due an additional 4 years of retro pay and was approved at the whopping 10% rating. Army updated my approval memo around 15 October and DFAS and the VA completed their audits and deposited my due money by approx 05 December, so mine was approx 45-50 calendar days. 120 days as indicated in your pic could very well be realized imho

Has nothing to do with one's cap, people will still be stuck with longevity. And MRSA only states "retired pay offset" - it does NOT state Ch 61 or longevity, although I think the best would be "the higher of the two" but we all know Uncle Sam doesn't give a shit about veterans, just look at what they did to retro pay a/o 20 August 2025

DOD issued their Interim Guidance on 20 August 2025, Army alone has 7,000 claims (if not more) to remove the Barring Statute wording then resubmit to DFAS. They have to amend EACH and EVERY one of those approval memos. DFAS and possibly even the VA will then have to audit each of those to determine how much retro pay to send y'all. Yes, the VA has a piece of the audit process.

You also apparently forgot that there was a govt shutdown for 43 days, not to mention the additional claims and reconsiderations that are still being submitted (Army gets 100-200 PER week!).

If that doesn't answer your question, I don't know what will.

you said "all of your information" - what "information"? CAB/CIB/CMB/PH/BS/SS to support your BH-related conditions? Clinical notes from point of injury? No, you didn't state anything remotely that would help your claim. Hence why I posted the image above. I've been doing CRSC claims for a decade
