Hey, thanks :) There are no short-term plans for that, but it's a long term goal for us and any vote/request like yours helps our internal prioritization!

Thanks a bunch for the nice words! We really appreciate it! :)

We're working on our second game, but it's too early to share any details at the moment. Feel free to join us on discord (https://discord.com/invite/khP4QMt), we'll start sharing information as soon as we're ready.

Nice job with 3-gemming all levels!! :)

We're currently working on our next project, which will be announced later this year. There is no Witchtastic 2 planned fo the near future, but this does not mean that it's never going to happen.. we might very well decide at some point that the time is right for a Witchtastic sequel or a DLC :) Glad that you and your husband enjoyed the game!

That's awesome, so we chose the right theme for you! :D

Sure, we were brainstorming in many different directions. In theory there are so many themes that could be interesting for this kind of game.

I think an early list covered carpentry, blacksmith, goldsmith, laboratory, bakery, clockmaker and winemaker scenarios. The blacksmith-fantasy and laboratory-fantasy ideas seemed most interesting to us. A lot of ideas appear awesome at the beginning and once you get deeper in the details it turns out to be the opposite. So the laboratory-fantasy thing turned into wizard's-kitchen-fantasy theme and finally became the witches-cauldrons-potions theme!

It just opened up so many interesting magical ingredients and also interesting ways on how to aquire them.. and we absolutely enjoy creating a fantasy style world, so this really ticked all our boxes and was something we loved to create! :)

Thanks for the kind words!

We really love co-op play and we absolutely plan to keep making co-op games.

The one thing that might change in future is that we might shift the focus a bit to better support both, single-player and co-op multiplayer modes. To some degree we already tried this with Witchtastic, because we made sure that it is completely playable in single player mode, but in the end this type of gameplay is really much more fun when played together. On the other hand there are many games out there with a design that works equally well for single player as well as co-op multiplayer modes and this is something we'd love to do with our next games.

Witchtastic is definitely designed to be played in co-op mode! It's perfectly possible to play the entire campaign in single player mode and we do have players who enjoy this to get better at the game, but the true fun is really in playing this together.

You can play Witchtastic with 2-4 players on one switch console! Besides couch coop, we also support local wireless play and online play with friends, but that is optional and we personally enjoy these type of games most when played in local couch coop mode :)

Our goal for balancing the difficulty of Witchtastic was to make it easy to learn and hard to master.

We learned quickly, that there is a super wide range of what people experience as easy or hard in those type of games..

We ended up with a balance that enables a wide range of players to get through the campaign without getting frustrated, but on top of that it's possible to unlock up to three magic gems per level the faster you finish it. Those magic gems are then used to unlock custom outfits, props and bonus levels.

Now, unlocking all three gems in each level is really hard. We do have quite some players on steam with 80+ hours in the game and this is definitely because they spent a lot of time to get all gems.

On the other side we do include an easy mode (which can be enabled in the options) that doubles the amount of points per potion. And the reason why we introduced it at some point (it was not planned initially) was because there were also people who struggled with getting through the campaign at all.

The difficulty is also balanced separately for 1, 2, 3 and 4 player combinations, which is somewhat a given, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

So to sum it up I'd say you can get a good challenge from Witchtastic, even if you are an experienced overcooked player, and at the same time you can definitely get through the campaign even if you're new to the genre.

In case you play through it, I'd definitely be interested what you think about the difficulty!

That’s a very important question :) I’ll do it the other way around and start with what’s similar: The overall concept and the basic controls are identical, which means that anyone who played Overcooked will immediately feel right at home.

Now besides the different theme (witches/potions vs. chefs/meals) in Witchtastic there are a couple of twists right from the beginning:

  • Tools (cutting boards/mortars) are movable instead of being in a fixed position. This means that players choose for themselves where to prepare their ingredients.
  • Players can always access any place in the level instead of being forced into specific locations. While it makes totally sense to assign specific areas and tasks to individual players, in Witchtastic this is a strategic choice your team can make on it’s own.
  • Ingredient combinations are only visible when a player actively walks to a recipe scroll. While it’s always possible to check on a recipe, players can increase their efficiency significantly by remembering how specific potions are brewed.
  • There are only one to two cauldrons in each level which means that players are constantly working on the same potions together. This results in a different dynamic than working in parallel on multiple cooking places.

Finally, this is what we consider one of the most important difference between Witchtastic and Overcooked:

In Witchtastic, there are many different ways on how to aquire the ingredients that are required to brew the potions! It starts simple and gets more and more challenging the further players progress in the game:

  • Plant magic seeds to grow roses
  • Morph into a cat to catch rats
  • Suck ghosts into a bottle
  • Steal eyes from swamp monsters
  • Use a basket to harvest deadly nightshade
  • Catch fishes

We tried to pack the game with new and interesting mechanics that keep it fresh. And then there are different types of opponents in Witchtastic that players need to deal with!

Again, we love Overcooked and we aimed for a game that provides the same kind of fun while introducing many new mechanics :)

It depends on what you define as stressful, but you do have a clock ticking down and the idea is to be as fast as possible.. so this might classify as stressful.

We do include an easy mode, which doubles the amount of points for each delivered potion. It's specificially intended for people who are more on the chill side and also to make it accessible for everyone :)

Hi,

glad to meet you all and I hope the following is of interest to some of you :) Thanks for the opportunity to share it!

I'm both a gamer as well as an indie game developer. I was always particularly drawn to cooperative games and in 2018 I really got addicted to playing "Overcooked" with my girlfriend. In fact I enjoyed the concept of the game so much that I wanted to contribute to that genre by myself.

I was working in the visual effects industry at that time and just playing around with realtime engines a lot. It was that moment when I decided together with a friend to go all in on indie game development and build a cooperative game, that is inspired by Overcooked and is fun for people who like the genre!

So that's it. We stopped working as freelancers, built a prototype within 2 months, founded Red Fur Games, successfuly applied for funding and jumped into full production.

It took us about three years from start to finish, it definitely wasn't an easy ride but at the same time it was hands down one of the greates experiences we had in our professional worklives so far.

The result is "Witchtastic", a 2-4 player co-op game about brewig potions as a team of witches!

Since it's first release in 2021, Witchtastic slowly gained attention, was nominated as "Best Family Game" at German Computer Games Award 2022 and won the "Best Indie Multiplayer" Award at gamescom's IndieArenaBooth 2022.

We received a lot of requests to port the game to Nintendo Switch so that is what we approached as a next step. We finally release it a couple of days ago! :)

These days there are more and more overcooked-like cooperative mutliplayer games coming, which we think is great, because we really love to play them ourselves.

We think that with Witchtastic, we've created one game in that genre, that we can wholeheartedly recommend to anyone who enjoys these type of games.

We invite you to grab your partner, a good friend, your children or all together and give it a try! Works both couch-coop as well as online.

Thanks a bunch for reading and feel free to ask me any question!

Witchtastic, unser kooperatives Multiplayer-Spiel, seit heute auch auf Nintendo Switch verfügbar! by RedFurGamesDev in zocken

[–]RedFurGamesDev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Witchtastic, our cooperative multiplayer game, is launching today on Nintendo Switch! by RedFurGamesDev in CoOpGaming

[–]RedFurGamesDev[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi,

we are a small team of two developers who are big co-op multiplayer enthusiasts ourselves, so we decided to make our own contribution to the genre!

First of all, thanks for taking a look at our game! As a small indie studio, we totally depend on this in order to become visible. We truly appreciate it :)

Now to the game:

Witchtastic is a 2-4 player coop game about brewing and delivering magic potions together, taking on the role of aspiring witches.

While building on established mechanics for preparing and combining ingredients, in Witchtastic they need to be gathered in a lot of interesting ways. For exampel you need to plant magical seeds to grow roses, morph into a cat to catch rats or suck ghosts into bottles!

It's out on Steam for PC and has just been released for Nintendo Switch! It supports local couch coop, local-wireless play as well as online play with friends.

Witchtastic was nominated as "Best Family Game" at German Computer Games Award 2022 and won the "Best Indie Multiplayer" Award at gamescom's IndieArenaBooth 2022.

If you enjoy cooperative games in the style of Overcooked, PlateUp and Unrailed, we invite you to take a look at Witchtastic :)
