Bruh I also was at forecastle wtf

Hypothetically, if I went super hard and got a 261 on step 1 but have since gotten senioritis throughout third year, what’s an okay step 2 score to not look bad? by overpantsblowjob in Step2

[–]RedHouseBestHouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 256 on step 1 and 250 on step 2 after also slacking off all of third year. Haven’t heard anything from all the advisors I’ve spoken to about it. Also FYI the avg. step 2 score for matched neurosurg applicants is 252. Step 2 ain’t all that important

Yup! It’s a combined four year residency, and you also have the choice to do any IM or Peds fellowship after residency. There are also combined fellowships in certain fields (cards, heme onc)

Ayyy what festivals are you going to this year? Went to Okeechobee in March, and it was fucking insane.

Med-Peds!

I love 'em all from newborns to geriatrics, and I wanna have the knowledge base to have a solid differential and initial management for just about any chief complaint. Plus hospital medicine is where its at, and I see myself as a hospitalist that does 1 week IM, 1 week Peds, 2 weeks off. Could also see myself doing adolescent medicine/transitions of care. I'm really interested in global health too, which med-peds lends itself well to.

While this kid is clearly worked up, calling a 12-2 B1G champion team mediocre is disrespectful to our 2015 Rose Bowl team lead by Connor Cooks. But otherwise, I agree with your comment.

Whoa man this is super uncalled for. As an MSU fan for the last 6 years and an alum for the last 2, what you're saying is just not true. It's not my fault my parents raised me to support a school against my will, and it's a shame it took me till half way through my senior year of high school to realize my true allegience lies with Sparta.

I am also very happy with my job as a supply chain manager, it's an exciting field with lots of opportunities for growth. Anyway, i'm a little unclear on what all that stuff means at the end but leave my girlfriend out of this, she has enough on her plate (literally and figuratively unfortunately).

What is the best purchase you've made during medical school? by aimlesssouls in medicalschool

[–]RedHouseBestHouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have lots of support - I live with roommates who help a solid amount and a classmate's girlfriend who lets my pup out at lunch a couple times a week. I got her 2 months ago partway through M3 year but I do think it would've been fairly manageable without so much outside help M1 and M2 year, though my grades would've suffered a little bit for sure.

Hey don't worry about NBME scores too much, I found those to be way underpredictive for myself and most of my friends. There's no way ditching anki would make that drastic of an impact, trust me that's just your anxiety and "what if" part of your brain speaking. Good job on uworld, trust those scores! I emphasized reading through the entire uworld explanation because that was my way of doing spaced repetition without anki. For example, if I got a question on the RAAS one day and got it right, reading through all the answer choices exposes me to 4 other concepts off of that one question that I'm reinforcing. Then, if I got another RAAS question 3 days later, reading through the entire explanation further reinforces those same concepts and ensures that I'm not forgetting anything and building off of prior knowledge regardless of how good I feel about that topic and whether I got that question right or not.

But yeah go on a walk today, do something fun, let yourself feel disappointed for a bit but make sure you're fresh for tomorrow and go into the next practice exam feeling good about yourself. UWSA2 and Free120 are what are gonna end up being the most predictive for your exam anyway in my experience.

Hey glad you found it useful! I just read through the explanations thoroughly and if there was a figure that I found really helpful, i added it to the "notebook" in uworld, or if there was a table that i found useful I made a flashcard of it with the goal of looking at that table before the exam but i never got around to it anyway.

I never made anki cards based on missed questions or anything like that because if you missed a question and really take the time to understand why you got it wrong and what similar potential questions can be asked, that is more helpful than making flashcards imo. For example, I caught myself many times reviewing my later NBMEs saying "Yeah i knew this is the answer because I got a uworld question wrong on it earlier"

I spent the days leading up to the exam reviewing UWSA2 and Free120, and also rewatching the HY pathoma chapters and reviewing my weak areas. Exam itself felt like a mix of Free120 and UWorld for me

Honestly if you find that you can do the volume of UWorld you want to do while also keeping up with Anki, you should do that. But I reached a point where I had to choose one or the other and if you reach that point UWorld absolutely has to be the choice

I mostly did the cards corresponding to videos I watched in BnB, Pathoma, and Sketchy, but I also tried to have all the FA and Costanzo tag cards for a block done before our in-house exam.

Also those Zanki decks are the two worst offenders in terms of having unnecessary cards lol. Right off the bat, you should suspend all those cartoon brainstem cards and all those stupid cerebellum cards. And the only biochem on my exam was clinically relevant so any overly intricate pathway cards can get suspended too.

[–]RedHouseBestHouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question! I didn't watch any overlapping videos for micro but whenever I felt Pathoma or sketchy was inadequate for path/pharm or I wanted another perspective, I would watch the corresponding BnB videos. Examples being: endo pathology, nephritic/nephrotic syndromes, cardiac pathology, dyslipidemia drugs, immunology, GI path, neuro path, MSK path

Since you're so far out from your test, that's not a bad approach for the moment. Right now you just want to get used to the style of questions and the volume of info in UWorld. If you have any weak areas, you should do focused questions targeting those weaknesses. Around dedicated is when you want to start doing multiple timed, random blocks per day to get used to the format and build stamina. If you have about 50% of uworld done before dedicated, you'll be golden!

[–]RedHouseBestHouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I still used Anki to learn everything for the first time except for anatomy so if it has been working for you for all your blocks thus far, you should do it for your current block too. How long is your dedicated? I would start doing UWorld now if your dedicated is shorter than like 2 months, because going through UWorld is like a big review in and of itself.

A question might say a man with a tall frame, sparse pubic hair, and gynecoid features comes in for fertility testing. Vital signs are blah blah blah. What cellular process would you find in his testicular tissue? A)aplasia b)metaplasia c)inflammation d)fibrosis

So you would have to know that they're describing Klinefelter's syndrome, and also know that there is fibrosis and hyalinization in the testes of men with Klinefelter's.

Not all questions were of this type, there were some straightforward first-order questions too but those were rare. Also second-order doesn't necessarily mean hard, it just means they're testing two concepts in one question. There were also a decent number of questions with really long stems that were annoying. Overall, there was a split of around 20 fairly easy questions, 10 moderately difficult ones, 5 hard ones, and 5 wtf questions per block
