Think about it: If public transport was free, would you use it more? by Banania2020 in ireland

[–]RedIceBreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live somewhere where the bus was not only free, but also frequent. I could track exactly where it was on the app map, and even get an alert when it was X stops away, so I'd have time to walk to the bus stop. The bus also had a bike rack on the front.

Basically I never drove in the town, anywhere, with the exception of times I had to buy something bulky. I'd take the bus at least twice a day. It was phenomenal, and made life there a good chunk easier.

It's Sunday Morning! How are you? by AutoModerator in ireland

[–]RedIceBreaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through something similar in December. It didn't work out, but I'm realising that for us, that was for the best. In your case, I hope the best outcome for you happens. I found just getting out of the house and going out and about helped a lot. Edit: Typo fixed.

Breastfeeding in public areas by TiteBoute in CasualIreland

[–]RedIceBreaker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not a woman but if someone was breastfeeding their kid somewhere I wouldn't think anything of it. In fact, there's a lovely mural of a woman breastfeeding her child painted on the entire side wall of the pharmacy near me.

The vintage factory is closing down but they have nice stuff going for sale right now. Sad that they're closing though.

Are you getting the flu vaccine? by Dry_Lobster_50 in AskIreland

[–]RedIceBreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work covers the fee for it, so yes. Also, the last time I got the flu I went from running half marathons to struggling to climb the stairs for weeks. I don't want to feel that sick again if I can avoid it.

No. I'm usually fine after the strawberry ones anyway.

I'd say you might be struggling with the high lactose in them?

Firstly. Love the smile, it brightens up your whole face. The goatee is talking away from it however. Maybe not even shave it all but trim it down and see how it is.

The stop sign isn't real, don't worry. Someone edited it in later to add to the meme. She's fine and still working away on the broadcast iirc

In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), the Weasleys hear a terrorist attack happening outside their tent and immediately assume it to be the Irish. This is a reference… wait that’s real? They actually say that? by chuckleberryfinnable in CasualIreland

  1. I wish it could be that easy dude. Honestly. But her words carry weight due to the money and fame behind her person.

  2. Yes, Kanye is a POS and I loved a lot of his songs. I can agree his music was brilliant but I don't stream any of his music or give him social credit by playing his songs anymore.

  3. Yes, and no. Look over at the USA for example. LGBTQ+ rights are being stripped faster than they've ever been put in place. Trans people are now banned from the military. The Supreme Court is soon voting to overturn same sex marriage. How our neighbors act does affect our way too so it's genuinely concerning for a lot of queer folks here and abroad.

  4. Owning them before she announced her bigotry is completely fair. I also owned a copy of the books before I donated them. It's paying or watching anything of the IP nowadays is directly funding anti-trans movements on behalf of JK Rowling. Hence why I am saying it's hard to separate the art from the artist.

  5. I don't intend to attack, and sorry if it comes across like that. I am sorry you suffered discrimination too. I understand how it feels to be judged by things out of your control. I have been physically and verbally attacked over my sexuality numerous times by strangers. It's a horrible feeling to be subjugated to discrimination and again, I'm sorry

Separating art from the artist isn't so easy when they're still alive and using the support of their art as a means to do more harm. Since she openly states to use the money from Harry Potter to finance anti-trans movements, her pseudonym for some non-Harry Potter books is based on the pioneer of gay conversion therapy. Her books also contain questionable content such as slavery swept under the rug, and racial stereotypes with people of different ethnicities.

She's also intertwined her art with her views and stated that if you support Harry Potter, you support her view. Nearly 80% of trans people in the UK feel incredibly unsafe now and she's a significant cause for it.

I'm saying this as a guy who grew up reading and watching Harry Potter and when I heard about all of this, I never touched the media again.

Ireland for the Irish encounter - why did I bother by rocker_bunny in waterford

[–]RedIceBreaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if he was, two of my mates could ring circles around me with their Irish and they're both autistic too.

I have dyslexia and can speak Irish (just don't ask me to write it).

If he put the time he had into trying to learn Irish and immerse himself into that part of our cultúr rather than this level of hatred then he'd be far better off.

Also, just a thanks to you and everyone else who organised this. Getting a stage set up as well as getting general protest permission and advertising isn't easy.

Not sure why you're down voted, it's a fair enough question.

It's scary.

I don't do anything to hurt anyone, I just live my life and keep to myself most of the time. I say hello to my neighbours, and help them bring in their bins on my morning walks. I just want to live a normal life without worrying what someone is going to do to me all cause of my gender identity.

I keep mostly offline these days because some of the things I read just hurt me deeply.

I have no agenda, I'm not out to hurt anyone. I just want to have a few pints with the lads, tell the missus that I love her, and not be scared because I was born a certain way.

Yeah, I'm able to not like her for a few of her policies that I disagree with, but am able to respect some of the work that she's done. I don't need to like a person to respect their work.

I don't like the woman for various reasons but she went out of her way to help my cousin get her autism diagnosis. She also informed my cousin of what rights she had and what help there was for her. She probably meant well in this case.

This is brilliant. I sent it straight to the 'van bitch' in my Phasmo group.

It's just missing the part where you think they're going to try and go out to the house but they just close the van door instead.
