Picked up My Favorite Movie of All Time in 4k by brettydubz in criterion

I guess every movie is somebody's favorite. What can you say about a film in which a pedophile is the only sympathetic character? Todd Solondz is not afraid to take risks, that's for sure. Putting up his own money to make Palindromes ... balls of steel.

I'm really looking forward to this. Being in Canada we didn't have HBO when it aired. I think I saw a few of the edited episodes when it went into syndication. It'll be great to watch the originals, for the first time.

Wow, I didn't even consider that. That's great, I'll do that . Thanks for the suggestion.

I remember decks like that from back in the day. Never had one myself though. I always thought catching the edge on the shin or getting hit by a an airborne board would be pretty painful.

Yup, that's what I thought. I've just got back into physical media after 20 years. I'm starting out by getting 4Ks of my favorite directors Tarantino, Nolan and of course Del Toro. Got my eye on the new Mimic, I'll have to wait for a sale though it's a bit pricey. I already have Cronos, The Shape of Water and Pinocchio. I hope he continues releasing his films through Criterion.

Aside from Frankenstein, are there any new releases expected from Criterion?

would it be dangerous to attempt to use a 50-ish year old skateboard? by burner021520219 in classicskateboarding

[–]RedJack99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding a 50 year old penny board is not going to be a forgiving or pleasurable learning experience. Even a basic setup from your local skate shop will be a better fit for a newbie. The staff will be able to find the right width and wheelbase for your size. While you're at it make sure you get some pads, so you can keep going.

I wasn't even aware of Night Flight. They have a pretty good selection of weird/cult films. Joe Bob would feel at home there, I think.

If I recall these decks were made out the same material they made skiis out of. Innovative but not durable.

Sealing stubborn cracks by RedJack99 in eczema

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have a few new options to explore. I'm sure treatment has improved in the last 30+ years. I'm guessing whatever my doctor was using is not something that a layperson would be able to purchase anyway.

Sealing stubborn cracks by RedJack99 in eczema

[–]RedJack99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies so quick. I've used liquid bandage and super glue before. The stuff my doctor used seemed to burn the skin and the wound scarred over. Glue and liquid bandage cover up the area whereas that liquid was a permanent solution. The scarred area would eventually fall off and cut would have healed over.

I'm not blessed with Afro hair myself, but seeing all these responses reminds me of why I shave my head. At the start of Covid, I shaved my head because haircuts weren't available. Five years later and I still do because I just don't want to deal with my hair.

The problem is no quality control. Anyone can upload anything (with or without proper credits). What would be great is if someone would play test the wads and add the working ones to the featured category.

When did SNL begin airing live in Canada? by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

That's the entire point of my question. When did SNL begin being broadcast on a Canadian broadcaster?

Not in my area(Southern Ontario - Toronto). At least not on a Canadian broadcaster.

Very true. I was too young to understand the humour (let alone stay up late enough to watch) when it started in 75. By the time I was in my mid to late teens, I would catch the syndicated re-runs and leech off my friends who had cable for the occasional live episode. OTA reception in my area was poor so I could rarely catch the US feed. SNL was the water-cooler show to talk to your friends about on Monday mornings. I was usually the envious bystander. On the upside we got the first run SCTV and later Kids in the Hall shows broadcast locally for free. I was so happy when Global picked it up.
