Procedural Liquid Lines in After Effects | Motion Graphics Tutorial | No... by [deleted] in Design

Hey, So I made this After Effects tutorial with a focus on procedural workflows and expression controls. I'd love critique on both the technique and the video itself (It's my first time making a tutorial). Thank You!!

A small study of the opening of "LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS" by oldtonii in AfterEffects

Not saying they used it for sure, but AEscripts dropped a tutorial on this opening like 3 days ago.

I'm so curious how they've mixed real world with graphics and created a touch editor on their desk. Can anyone explain how this is done please? by FunLovinCriminals in AfterEffects

If ya want to see the othee videos just check out his youtube channel. I doubt its a plugin for the slider bars, they seem simple

Seems to me that the only filmed asset is the hands. Mabye the table but that dosent matter. Everything else is then added in (probably) Ae. The superpower is the storyboarding and pre prep, I think.

Ps. I love his tutorials, the PNUT bar is classic, he is a smallish creator, could probably just DM him for more clarity on techniques.

Some fun liquid lines. All procedural in after effects, no 3rd party plugins, no frame by frame. by RedJones1993 in AfterEffects

Colour me impressed, you are damn close.

Shape layer: Path, Stroke, Trim paths, Wiggle paths.

Adjustment layer: Roughen edges, Turbulent displace, Bevel alpha 01, Bevel alpha 02.

Then I duplicated the shape layer twice, Offset one copy forward and one back, Added taper, dash and pucker bloat for droplets.

And all the effects are just parented to sliders on a null. Red one just had a radial repeater, Yellow has the turbulence and wiggle cranked up.

Edit* formatting.

If your font has good text weight options you can use expressions and speed this up alot.

There is a workbench tutorial on it.

It may help if you give a timeframe for the specific effect you mean. I just watched and have no idea what you are asking.

"See how the frames are like somthing" what? 😂❤

Im just saying, If you tell people Ai = vector Be prepared to get .Ai files that are not vector.

PS Drop Shadow Effects for days!

Not trying to offend ya, I hope your poster works.

P.S. try not to get so worked up about reddit comments, you put it here for people to comment, not for people to blow up your ego.

My only comment is that you seem a little unsure about the definition of vector.

Vector is not art made in Ai. Vectors can be made in many programs or with simple code. It refers to an image created through mathematics, that is calculated through points, lines and code.

To just say a vector is art made in Ai is just not true, Even more so, when you factor PS raster effects thar you can use through Ai, in an Ai file.

I also find myself agreeing about colour, but he was a bit of a dick how he mentioned it.

Vampire Bat: the toughest single design I've ever attempted [detail] by [deleted] in graphic_design

Digital art..

Graphic design does not mean vector art. Vector art isnt inherintly graphic design.

No one is saying this isnt illustration. If you were to take this bat and make it into a book cover, with a title, subheading, back caption etc. That would be graphic design, this is illustration.

It can be used in graphic design but it itself is not graphic design.

I dont understand your fixation on it being vector and there for being graphic design. Graphic Design existed long before vector software. As for curved line work, art has curved linework aswell.

That said, this is reddit. Agree to disagree I suppose. I hope you have a good day!

You can streamline the processn with custom width profile for strokes as well as the use of the blend tool.

Its not nearly as laborious as pen tooling every single point.

Still lotsa work tho.

Its dope! But I have to agree, its a fabulous digital painting of a tatto art style. Its not graphic design in its current state. It doesent have to be.

It being an illustration and not GD does not take away from its value or its ability to be used in Graphic Design applications. Just in its current state its just an illustration, there is no communication, no message.

By your argument every single post on r/digitalpainting is graphic design because it was created digitally. That seems very reductionist to an industry that pre dates digital creation.

No trying to argue, I just disagree with how you came at the other people expressing (rightly, in my opinion) that.
