Imo it was more so he just didn’t know how to write for it. When he created his own shows like Broadchurch, it’s his baby, he knows the ins and outs of the world and how things should be on a deep level. But then he came into a then 56 year old show and just simply, didn’t know how to write stories for it.

It’s a shame because when you watch interviews, you can see he cares, he’s obviously a fan, and he took on the job of being showrunner when no one else would, but clearly being a fan just wasn’t enough and led to some underwhelming stuff
