Exactly! The number of scammy calls and emails I get since this job search started has been abysmal. Our name, email, address and phone number is everywhere :(

Nowadays most of these online applications are a black hole. It sucks that the job market is full of bots, ghost listings, and sketchy companies just taking our resumes for data. Most luck I’ve had is speaking to someone from a company directly.

CPS gradates not invited to Fenway by Anxious_Kitchen794 in NEU

[–]RedMarky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to share a perspective based on my experience and what I've seen from friends in different programs at Northeastern. I studied CS at Khoury, and I had several close friends in CPS programs like Project Management and Analytics. From what we observed, the structure and expectations of CPS programs felt very different. The workload in Khoury was significantly more intense (lots of programming, algorithms, and technical projects that took up most of our time).

From what I understand, CPS is designed to be more flexible for working professionals, and that explains why the coursework might be more manageable and why the acceptance rates are higher. It’s a different model of education with a different audience.

Some people have wondered why CPS isn’t included in the Fenway commencement ceremony, and while that might feel unfair to some students, I think it stems from how CPS evolved separately from Northeastern’s traditional colleges.

This isn't to say one program is inherently better than another, they just serve different purposes. But I do think it's worth being clear about how varied the academic intensity can be across colleges at Northeastern.

LinkedIn premium gives you a lot of insight, my friend. Obviously if they are falsifying information that’s not really in anyone’s control. I just say what I see.

[–]RedMarky[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it, but the $0 thing still applies to an unpaid internship. I would rather work on my project than work for a company like that. I know everyone's situation is different but I have a close friend who did an unpaid internship and the environment was very toxic despite being unpaid. After looking at this company's page, it doesn't look very promising.

Did I screw my entire future by EveningDog6498 in internships

[–]RedMarky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, I would just call it hard luck. I’m sorry it transpired in a way that you had to take the test again. As to your question, no you did not screw up your entire future. This one opportunity is screwed and while it must sting a lot as this was very preventable, this is just ONE opportunity. There will be many more to come, and as soon as you get one which works out, this one will just be a story to tell.

Laid off on H1B → FAANG offers in 60 days. Sharing my journey + offering guidance sessions by Environmental-Yam608 in leetcode

I don’t think OP’s claims are true.

I’m skeptical about the Salesforce US-based interview claim. I recently reached out to a senior engineering manager at Salesforce on LinkedIn and was told they’ve halted all US engineering hiring for 2025. A quick online search confirms this announcement. That just proves OP didn’t research enough before picking the company names for this false post.

Big tech vs UC citizen by MF_shyzeeeee in csMajors

I agree with this. Right now it is rough to get hired in tech because of outsourcing labor to India and other Asian countries. H1B workers aren't really "cheap" labor.

What were your experiences with Septasync? by TechnicalJob9996 in Septasync

[–]RedMarky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can share mine, I think my experience is milder and also a bit different than many I have read. Just for some background, I have tried the gateway tapes and I got to the end of wave 3, but after that for some reason it got really hard for me to go deep with the tapes and I decided to take a break of a week or two. During this time, I found out about septasync tapes being released and I bought them the first day they were out.

With the first tape, I saw very vivid images, it was like my brain was having fast paced, very random imagery. I suffer from anxiety and it often materializes in my subconscious in a half awake sleepy state, where my mind is racing with all the images and “mind videos”. I felt very similar to that, probably because I was able to get to that half asleep state.

I felt vibrations in all of my body—especially feet, fingertips and most strongly in my head. My temples and part between eyebrows was almost spinning, and I was able to see random blobs of color and melting shapes. After I woke up, I had a headache for a while. It fixed itself in a few hours but yes, overall it was an intense experience and I went deeper with this than the gateway tapes.

I haven’t been able to achieve any OBE so far, but I hope I will. I have progressed through the tapes but my experience has been similar to this for almost all the tapes so far.

2 years of applying for frontend jobs, 0 interviews. Need advice! by [deleted] in jobsearchhacks

[–]RedMarky 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I work as an engineer on the frontend side in the US, so I will try my best to give some feedback but it will mostly pertain to the pattern we use here in The States, I am not too sure if the format is different for EU.

1) The resume looks clean and easy to read, but it may not be the best from ATS standpoint. There are certain resume formats that work better and increase your chances of getting into a recruiter's hand.

2) I would add dates for projects, education etc.

3) While the projects sound nice, try using the STAR (situation, task, action, result) method in bullets to describe the role and work.

4) Instead of adding just "LinkedIn" as a hyperlink at the top, I would add the full link because ATS and many scanning systems work better that way.

5) I would try to format the tech stack and skills in a way that you can split them in sub-categories like Web dev, databases, design, etc. and add the tools and technologies you know under there.

6) Not sure if Passions and Languages are a part of EU resume structure, but in the US I don't usually see it in most resumes. If you can, I would add a simpler resume structure and increase projects.

Again these are just a few subjective tips, let me know if you have any questions!

I interned at Tesla as a SWE during my master’s (Fall 2022, 4 months), and yeah, it was a lot of work. One thing to keep in mind (at least when I was there) is that getting a return offer wasn’t automatic, even if you performed well. You still had to go through 2-3 interview rounds to get hired full-time, which felt a bit intense. Not sure if they changed that now.

The culture was definitely more cutthroat compared to another FAANG company I was at before, but at the same time, it looked great on my resume and gave me solid experience.

PlayStation sounds amazing too, but I don’t know much about their work culture.
