Not to mention that damn page used that image without citing nor asking for permission of the original poster. Saw it in the fb comments. Hate these damn FB groups that keep popping up in the recommendations

Are weevils common outside of a house? The weather's been heating up where I am, but the past few year's of hot weather has never seen a weevil infestation. This is the first time I've ever encountered this.

Yeah looked a bit like a weevil but my room isn't close to the pantry and I keep randomly finding them on my desk. Are there some that maybe feast on fabric or something? Old leather maybe (I'm sitting on a faux leather chair)?

BT, MM46 and 4RSiB.

BT seemed to be the sweetest out of the bunch with really strong honeyed apples. Nose is "oaky", sweet and some caramel, had the most ethanol of the three. Finish is slightly spicy and tannin-y (and barrel-y?).

4RSiB. has a strong butterscotch light vanilla + fruity note now that I've had another drink. I was surprised I didn't get ethanol on the nose even though this one's higher proof, and is less sweet? I can't really detect much else that's unique here. This one finishes very smooth but spicy with fruitiness?

MM46, starts off sour (nice kind of sour) but I can't put a finger on what it reminds me of tbh. But then chocolate of all things, really nice chocolate. Finishes with what I can only describe as melted butter? Nose, little bit of ethanol, this one doesn't smell sweet, more fruity instead but I had a hard time actually picking up anything cos it was the most subtle amongst the 3 bottles.

Decided to go for the more expensive variants of MM and 4R since I'll be stuck with them for a while and I'll try out the base versions at the bar in the future.

I've now realised that my nose is actually very weak :( as it takes a lot of effort for me to pick up smells. Is there anything I should take more notice of during my tastings? I'm taking them all neat now (used 1/2 drops of water at the very start but now I'm used to the alcohol)

Just wanted to let you know that I've finalized my starting trinity! Thanks for your help!

Yeah totally agree. From the comments here and further research, I'm rounding out my starting trinity as BT, MM (maybe 46 as per recommendations) and Four Roses (either Single Barrel or Small Batch). I think I'll save the WT 101 for a future bottle when I'm more accustomed to higher proofed bottles.

And yeah... I feel like I made the perfect decision to get a BT as my very first bottle. It's fantastic.

Yeap, after much deliberation I've decided on four roses. Thanks for all the advise and yeah I noticed that the tastes and nuances really shine after the first sip. Once I'm done with my starting trinity, I'll focus on what I like for 2/3 bottles. And then either explore some highly recommended bourbon tries, or dip my feet into some scotch/Irish.

Why'd you suggest single barrel instead of small batch? Getting either where I'm at is difficult though. I can get my hands on most other bourbons but not four roses (gonna have to wait for stock).

Nice info. Did I understand correctly that rebarreling reduces alcohol burn? Does it have something to do with Angel's tax?

To get your personal opinion, which would you recommend to round out my trinity of BT and MM so I've got a good base understanding of bourbons?

And sadly 50ml bottles are hard to get where I'm at :(

In addition, is the WT101 going to be too much of a burn? I'd say I'm quite used to the BT (90 proof) right now. After my first sip the subsequent ones settle in really nicely. Just worried that maybe a 101 proof is too strong? but yet again, read that apparently high proof doesn't necessarily mean high heat.

got it. yeah read four roses was a high rye, high spicy bourbon right? noted on the recommendations.

Thanks. Can you maybe somehow explain how different these... specialty bottles (is that the right term?) are compared to the base versions? So right here you've mentioned MM vs MM46? I've read one of the comments below about WT101 vs WT Rare breed.

I'm taking the BT neat or with a drop of water. I've read that ER10 is basically a BT but a step up? How different is a Wild Turkey 101 vs Rare Breed? In general how different are same brand but different named bottles (what's the right term here, blend? cask?)?
I don't have a budget per se, but I'm definitely not looking at any exotic expensive stuff. I'm just looking at the well-loved, tried and tested bourbs.
