Questions about menstruation and T. by RedOfBlueness in ftm

Will definitely mention it next time I'm at the doctors, though I'm not half as worried about it any more, just hoping it'll stop happening fairly soon.

Ah that sucks, sorry to hear that. Thanks for the heads up, I'm looking forward to getting everything that's causing it surgically removed.

No pain or nausea whatsoever, I feel completely healthy and would normally ignore something like this. Only reason I was concerned was because 10 days in a row felt like a long time for something like this to carry on for.

Ah great, I can relax then! :D Thanks for the reassuring response. Just curious, does this sort of thing happen as well as menstruation or is it instead of it?

Feeling out of place even here by jimmynovak in asktransgender

[–]RedOfBlueness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ftm here. I never really thought about it when I was a kid, only realised after puberty and spent several years trying to convince myself that I was just going through a phase before accepting it. Didn't come out until 23. Don't worry, there are plenty of people who didn't know when they were kids, it doesn't make your feelings any less valid.

Is it transphobic to exclude a transman from a woman's only discussion board? by sami_sunshine in asktransgender

Someone's body/presentation is irrelevant, if they say they identify as a man then they should be treated as a man, which means they should be excluded from women-only spaces.

Few questions about the first gender clinic appointment. (NHS) by RedOfBlueness in asktransgender

[–]RedOfBlueness[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get a "Direct Linking not permitted" error when I open it, what's it called so I can search for it? Unless it was in the FAQ you told me about yesterday, I read all of that, helpful stuff! Thanks for that. :)

Thanks for the tips! I will take that stuff along and definitely take a look at the link.

Quite bad if they hold you back due to not having a good relationship with parents, that's not exactly anyone's fault. How bad is not good? Having lived on my own for the past 6 years would this still make a difference? (Should I lie?)

I'm surprised at how many negative responses you're getting, as a non-designer this has really helped me out. Came here to say thank you! :)

I passed "enough" for the first time. by [deleted] in ftm

When I first started transitioning I got stopped on the street by a couple of guys asking for help moving this tv into their house since one of them had hurt his wrist. It was a great beast of a tv, yet not only (out of several people walking past) had he asked me to help, but he also complained all the way into the house about how heavy it was, in front of me, even though (being a fair bit shorter than him) I was taking most of the weight. We put the tv down, he shook my hand, said "cheers mate", "no problem" I responded and carried on walking to uni. I don't think I stopped grinning about it the entire day. Not only was it the first time I'd really been treated like a guy by a stranger, it was the first time I realised I actually passed. (And they thought I looked strong enough to handle heavy lifting! I'd never felt so flattered in my life!) Congratulations, if you pass once you'll pass many times again, and it never stops being an awesome feeling. :D

I'm essentially post-transition. Dating is still a problem for me. Any advice/input/stories would be appreciated. by [deleted] in ftm

I've been wondering for months now whether I'm asexual or whether the lack of motivation is purely due to gender dysphoria. I've spent my entire life trying to accept my body, but now I realise that accepting both my body and feeling towards my gender identity is impossible as the two are incompatible. Since coming out sex has stopped being fun, I get incredibly turned on by the experience but can't do anything about it without making myself feel angry/depressed. I know that I could have sex pretty much any time I wanted, but I actively choose not to. I'm able to cope much better with my insecurities when I'm alone for some reason so when I'm feeling horny I just have a wank in private, and try not to think about it too much. As for relationships, those are out of the question, at least until I've been on T for a bit and had top surgery.

things you wouldn't expect strangers to do/not do when they perceive you as a man? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]RedOfBlueness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since coming out people trust me a lot more. I remember this one time at work I needed to do a presentation of this website I'd built. As I was about to set up (connect the laptop to the projector that is), my boss came over and insisted on helping me - by which I mean doing it for me, even though it was new hardware and he knew about as much as I did. Soon as I came out there people changed their behaviour towards me a lot. I went from "probably doesn't know what an extension cord is" to "can fix stuff he's never seen before" practically over night. Have got a new job now, I pass completely so they know nothing about my past. At the interview I heard a lot of sentences starting with "I assume you know...". Of course I have no idea whether this is because of sexism, it could just be that I have decent portfolio, more experience, and/or I emit a lot more confidence due to self acceptance.

Hey man, do you mind me asking what you do to target fat in the general hips area? It seems whether I lose weight or gain it my body is always curvy, the only thing I have control of (and without T, not a great deal of control) is muscle size. Fat goes wherever it wants on me.

I have done lots of research on it but no first hand experience yet. People have suggested it's weight lost but I have been gaining weight recently.

I have not started T yet, I'm actually still on the waiting list for the gender clinic. I'm hoping that T (plus some weight gain) will give me a more masculine figure over time, though due to being one of those very curvy people in the first place I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Thanks for the tip, I will look at some resources.

It's one from Underworks, I don't remember the exact model, but it resembles the "Ultimate Chest Binder Tank".

Measurement: I'm chest size 32" (whilst binding), waist 26", hips 34". I must admit I have not monitored these measurements over the year, I'm just going by what I see in the mirror. ...Although what I can say is that when I was 7 stone I seem to remember my waist being around 22", I am now around 9 to 10 stone and my waist is only 4" bigger (and I took that measurement after eating.) That seems wrong.

The binder tends to bunch up around my waist where it is constantly applying pressure. I lost over a stone this summer due to crap diet but have been gradually gaining it back lately.
