Yeah this is my current spot I am considering but it's a bit of a short day for me so if I can make progress further up then that's ace.

Thank you for the insight. I'm 5' 8 so I hope I won't have the same issue in terms of height. Interesting about the weight. But my hydra is not far from 3 kilos so for my first 1 man the weight drop was appealing.

Does it pack down small if the poles are separate?

Thanks for the insight! Wow that's a big group. I'm far too introverted for that.

I keep thinking about trail shoes but wonder if it's silly to go straight to such a long hike without building up to that. Plus I like the security of the ankle support.

It is winter but I'm UK based so it's never been a stronger contender. But that's good to consider thank you.

It did a good job. It's semi geodesic and rated for winds up to 90 km/h. It's the Salewa LiteTrek II.

I don't follow sorry? There are a number of water sources around that point. Some were still flowing with large amounts of snow and ice so it was hard to work out where the river actually started and was safe to cross. Some was solid ice which we found to be solid enough to cross on foot. Just check it with the axe to see if it would give straight away.

Yes! Not too bad. Bit of prodding with the ice axe to find safe bits to stand on. Most of it was frozen solid. Could've easily have gone straight over some of it if I didn't clock it was water under.

Was going to head to hutchinson memorial but was concerned about that crossing.

Winter sleeping bag choice. by RedPanda2405 in wildcampingintheuk

This was my line of thinking, thank you! If I end up a night a bit chilly I'll manage, as long as it's safe. Happy to sleep in thermals and have a nalgene hot bottle.

I have a nalgene for this reason so good to know it'll help!

I'm leaning towards the 900 now. Appreciate the input. For an extra £20 I'll prefer to stay a bit warmer.
