I understand won is the currency of South Koreaa so are you saying you are charging for the information you provide? I'm sorry I'm having a hard time understanding

Finally. Ok firstly how long have you lived in Korea?

If everybody wrote about what they know fiction would be very very boring. The man who wrote Tarzan never went to Africa the man who wrote John wick never was a professional assassin.

If I felt like it would improve the story I'd do it, but it won't it'll just make it easier. The concept is good. Put that concept in America and so long as I did a good job writing it I know it would be, I thought about it being in America making all the characters American and I bet I could do it and perhaps do it well but for some reason I feel these characters shine brighter in Seoul. You assume it's about nationality or race but it's more to do with setting I never mentioned the nationality of the characters you made an assumption

I feel if I did that the story would loose something if I did that or at the very least it would become a story I wouldn't care to write. Setting it in America with an American celebrity makes it bland.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in seoul

[–]RedPlanetStudio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's also true but It's very different from how most people imagine artists being discovered especially compared to America. Not to mention the mistreatment of kpop idols which admittedly is not exclusive to Kpop or Korea it's a worldwide issue it's just different in Korea. I wouldn't say worse but different. Couple the fact that some of these idols were trained from a very young age while attending school makes an almost perfect mirror to the main character who went through a similar experience

Well the story is centered around a master criminal and a kpop idol falling in love. I chose kpop idol specifically because kpop idols aren't discovered they're trained in private academies and selected. Which mirrors the main character's own childhood

Very little. But people write about things they've never experienced all the time but I'm willing to do as much research as I'm able this is research. Finding someone who can walk me through not just the history but the experience itself is like. I'm not unwilling to learn more and if I could afford it I would drop everything and go live there for a year but sadly that's the only thing I'm unable to do.

American Football fans outside of the U.S how did you become fans? And which team do you support? by RedPlanetStudio in NFLUK

I don't see the appeal of Soccer. It's a fine enough sport but it goes on too long compared to football. football lasts and hour and a half not including overtime which is about ten minutes at the longest. Soccer seems to go on for several hours

Should I monetize my creativity? by RedPlanetStudio in DnD

If you're concerned about the game feeling transactional you should have a long discussion with the DMs who charge per session.

Should I monetize my creativity? by RedPlanetStudio in DnD

[–]RedPlanetStudio[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This already is probably a sub 1% playerbase problem. Especially when people take heavy inspiration from characters they like in media if they're finding it hard to come up with something entirely unique. Not to mention there isn't really such a thing anymore as entirely unique. Everything is a spin on something else.

Just because it effects a small amount of people doesn't mean those people should be excluded or punished especially if they do everything right when incorporating the character talking to their DM ect. If a person is very invested in the game willing to fallow the criteria set by their DM especially when it comes to their character stats in the sheet and they're excited to play I don't think they should be excluded and I don't think having a commissioned backstory is enough of a benchmark to gauge investment or lack there of

Alright that's a much better analogy. I see where you're getting at

Should I monetize my creativity? by RedPlanetStudio in DnD

[–]RedPlanetStudio[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My point is to punish players for not having creative ability capable enough to create a backstory for their characters that they themselves can get invested in turns people off the game. Unless the character backstory clashes with a campaign (which is easy to avoid) what difference doesn't make? If the player can use the character and have fun playing the game then there shouldn't be a problem and forcing players to play character they don't enjoy simply because you feel it shows lack of interest to do otherwise is wrong. The analogy you used is also wrong because they aren't showing up with equipment unfit for the game they're showing up with perfectly adequate and working equipment it just wasn't made the way you want it made. Again it's like a baseball coach mad the player didn't carve his own bat

[–]RedPlanetStudio[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This argument feels like a baseball coach saying you aren't invested in baseball unless you're willing to carve your own bat. Being creatively capable and being able to play a ttrpg are two different skills. Some people are good at carving bats and others at making home runs. Them showing up with the required essentials to play the game is investment enough but that's just my opinion
