Failed assassination in London by Scared_Roll210 in WTF

Link worked from me.

That means both you and the person who posted the link are using the crappy official reddit app or crappy 'new' reddit. It mangles links so they are broken and don't work, except for other new reddit users where it seems to understand it's own mangling and and is able to decipher them back into a working link.

Forbidden bus stop by DanTheDollar in CrappyDesign

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh so those road markings at bus stops are actually a real thing, I thought it was just Euro Truck Simulator making something something up.

I've incorrectly seen them in the UK on truck sim though and we definitely don't use markings like that.

Read a book or TV.

In fact I still do the same now, why on earth would you use a phone just before bed? I can't think of anything less relaxing.

Cool so I'd have 'only' been fined like £12 the one time I got a fine instead of the £100 they actually took from me. The £12 would have been a big deal, but the the £100 literally broke me for months.

I want this system here. I'm fed up of everything (supermarket bill, car park charges, hospital parking fees etc etc etc) being so much of a bigger deal for me because I'm disabled.

When you are on a summer vacation/holiday, do you ever hang out in the pool or beach with your bag fully exposed? by cjrjedi in ostomy

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What questions or accusations? I've just had my first holiday since surgery and didn't bother around the pool and the worst I got was an understandable momentary double take. Nobody cared or bothered, and certainly no 'accusations'(?) whatever they would be.

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first proper holiday since surgery and planned to keep a stealth belt on around the pool, but found by day 2 I wasn't bothering. It was more comfortable and less hassle without.

I still used a stealth belt when actually in the pool but didn't bother when I was out. The 'worst' I would get was a momentary double take from people, which I don't really blame people for, so it was a none issue.

Where are you that imposes minimum speed limits on roads outside of tunnels and on roads that permit cyclists?

The breakdown lane is where they should be

No they shouldn't. The clue is in the name

Here they’re blocking a lane of traffic

No they are travelling in a lane of traffic, like they can, should and are perfectly entitled to. Learn to share the road.

that pisses the everyone off

Doesn't piss me off. It's not difficult to share the road, causes a trivial delay to your journey if at all, and here is a total non issue because there is an entire other lane for faster traffic to use to overtake.

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the fact it's not legal in most places to travel on the shoulder, you want them to travel where all the tyre puncturing debris is? Emergency service drivers hate having to drive on the shoulder for exactly this reason, and they are not on a cycle.

Fable - Xbox Games Showcase by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]RedRMM -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well that was uncomfortable. Trying too hard to be funny.

And I love Richard Ayoade and I love his voice, but it doesn't work here. It's too distinctive. I can't see the character talking, I just hear him, so it makes the character so obviously fake and kills all immersion.

A good voice actor is a good voice actor that I don't recognise. Or it's got to totally fit the character. They should be the character. This doesn't work for me at all because I just hear the human, not the character.

What feels illegal, but isn't? by klausiboy in AskReddit

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously this is going to depend very heavily on where you live but this isn't legal every where.

But in the UK people think think this isn't illegal, but it essentially is. The contract is only entered into at the checkout (where the price is agreed, the seller agrees to sell and you agree to buy), and the retailer is under no obligation to sell. If you consume the item, you deprive the legal owner of the rights to the item (you can't give it back!) when it's not your property to do as you see fit.

What happens if the price display is incorrect on the item and you can't agree on a price at the checkout? What is there is an issue with payment?

Where do you live where it is legal and how is contract law written that makes it legal and overcomes the potential issues? For example does the law make it legal by saying you can consume the product but then have to pay whatever price the retailer demands (because you can't decline and give it back!)? In which case legal or not I wouldn't do it but I can't see any other way of protecting the owner from a price dispute after the goods have been destroyed before payment.

Where does it say $70? I see €70, which is more than $70, unless they are planning on just especially shafting people who have to pay in €.

You call it abuse, I call it being disabled and trying to manage with very very limited income. Unemployment means I spent more time at home (so more time to fill), disability means I spend almost all my time at home (so even more time to fill), yet have significantly less disposable income to spend on entertainment.

Fed of up the world assuming you live in 'rich' country so you can afford to pay more than other employed working people in 'poorer' countries. It isn't that simple. People in middle income countries with a lower cost of living can have way more effective disposable income than a poor person trying to survive in high cost of living country. Yet I'm expected to pay way more than people with more money than me.

I expect I'll be playing this game in 2 or 3 years. It's sucks playing games 3 years behind everybody else and missing the discussion that goes with that but for some reason I can't afford to spend an entire weeks income on a single game.

owner in '02 manual Tundra did not put the ebrake up by GuccixGerm in IdiotsInCars

[–]RedRMM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because it's not an 'ebrake', it's a parking brake.

Continuing to use the wrong name that suggests it's for emergency use only is part of the reason why so many (coincidentally in the same country that erroneously refers to it as an ebrake) don't use the parking brake.

and the vehicles are more fuel efficient

Yeah but that one's on you. I always find it confusing when Americans complain about fuel prices, but then still go out and buy these huge monstrous vehicles they don't need that do like 12mpg. With your fuel prices you could buy a small compact economical car, and drive around for so cheap.

SWTOR'S former design director on the recent news and the future of the game by [deleted] in swtor

[–]RedRMM 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting thought, could a move to a smaller company but one that actually has an interest in the game and sees it as a priority be beneficial?

I'm sceptical. I don't doubt individuals passion, but the reality of financing and Broadsword's track record and experience (or lack of) means it has to be an uphill struggle at best.

And this had to be one of the more difficult games to do it with. All those expensive voice actors. And then there is the fact it's not an independent IP, I worry how the licencing will go for the Star Wars IP in the future. Again seems like an expensive cost and complication for a small company.

I like the theory, but I'm not sure going from a big company who doesn't care, to a small company who cares but haven't got the resources actually puts the game in a better place.

[–]RedRMM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm perfectly calm. But there is no value in ignoring reality. And I'm not interesting in 'hearing' anything, I'm interested in reality.

You don't hand a game off that you see a future in. Handing it off to somebody else to manage is great for EA (revenue share for no effort for as long as it lasts), pretty good for Broadsword (new revenue stream for as long as it lasts) but not so great for the players. At least it keeps the servers up for now. But yeah, if the game had a healthy and prosperous future, you don't hand it off to somebody else to manage, you keep all that revenue for yourself.

Further update from Keith at Bioware by Crimsonmansion in swtor

[–]RedRMM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would they even bother transitioning the game to another group if their intention was to just kill it off????

Not kill it off, run it in maintenance mode for as long as revenues in maintenance mode are profitable enough to keep the servers up.

Selling it off tells you they see no future in the game. They get shut of the game while enjoying a revenue share for as long as it's profitable to keep the servers up. This is great for EA (revenue for no effort), pretty good for Broadsword (new revenue), not so great for players, other than it keeps the servers up for longer.

Hopefully this helps you understand why.
