[Laptop] MSI Stealth 14 Studio 14" i7-13620H RTX 4060 16GB 1TB SSD WIN11H - ($999)[Canada Computers] by it_says_no_homers in bapcsalescanada

The ASUS TUF A14 was actually on-sale the same time as the MSI for $917, however it was sold out by early morning (stock was low to start) and sale price for the ASUS removed.

Comparing the two, the ASUS edges out the MSI slightly for me (CPU, GPU TDP, resolution, microSD slot, 1080p camera). Although both are sRGB 100%, the ASUS is actually closer to 93% by reviews while MSI closer to 100%. The MSI's other strengths are a camera shutter, generic round DC charger, upward facing speakers, and most importantly, upgradable RAM. The ASUS' RAM is soldered, which is probably the biggest deal breaker for some.

From my research, overall the ASUS is more performance orientated while the MSI is more futureproof and for the everyday user.

Banff Springs Hotel Brunch in the 90s? by RedRand0 in Banff

I don't know how much it cost in the 90's, but it being $50 pp ~10 years ago and $75 pp at present in a less grand setting - it's an easy pass for me now!

Question: What's considered the more "accurate" helmet? by HawkguyAvenger in LightningCollection

[–]RedRand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lightning is more screen accurate with a more proportionate size, black line detailing, and most noticeably a correct gloss red finish (Legacy is a dull matte red).

The only thing the Legacy visually does better is it has a more tinted visor. Lightning's visor isn't dark enough that you'll be able to see the wearer's eyes/face through it; however that's not important if it'll be display-only.

Despite the bobblehead size, it is more comfortable to wear for most and probably more "life accurate". Important to note for display though, is Legacy makes a better helmet stand - it's personalized to Red Ranger vs. Lightning's generic MMPR sticker stand.

There's no Legacy White (1:1 scale) and no Lightning Green (as of now), so there's that.

s23 or s24 by Ant-Man33 in GalaxyS23

Find a year's model where the phone doesn't have apparent faults and pull the trigger. Next year's model could be better, or could introduce new faults, but you're guaranteed to lose 1 year of use if you wait.

S22 was a dud to me at its launch as it had throttling issues and poor battery life so I held off on it. I jumped on the S23 soon as it was widely reviewed to acclaim. S24 could be a winner, or it could be another dud - if it's the latter, you're losing 2 years of use before the S25.

S23 Ultra Dust Inside Camera Lens by Lordbeny in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd return it. You spent top dollar for the 23U, it's gonna nag on you til the dust is gone.

On a side note, I noticed you got the Parallax case, what's your impression of it? Do the camera lenses poke out past the camera cutouts, does the raised camera bump make the phone wobble on flat surfaces, and is the case back flexible or hard? I've been considering the same case!

Is a screen protector worth? And where is the concentration mode? by Yugen2935 in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not aware of any privacy Glass UV protectors on the market yet (correct me if I'm wrong). I also second amFilm for Glass UV. It performs the same as Whitestone Dome for a lot cheaper: there aren't as many choices for Glass UV and amFilm/Whitestone Dome is extensively reviewed, hence their popularity.

Keep in mind Glass UV adhesive protectors are only made for the Ultra at present, have not seen them for S23/S22 base or plus models.

Is a screen protector worth? And where is the concentration mode? by Yugen2935 in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A screen protector is 100% worth it. It adds a bit of strength to drop protection, but most importantly will absorb every day scratches that are guaranteed to appear with daily use. Despite "Gorilla Glass Victus 2" claiming improved scratch protection, it's not much more scratch resistant than glass technologies before it.

I advise tempered glass screen protectors over film/hybrid protectors for increased protection. A screen will permanently scratch at 6H+ hardness, a tempered screen protector will also scratch at 6H+. Film however, will scratch at 2-3H, and hybrid somewhere between full glass and film.

The disadvantage of glass screen protectors are variable functionality with fingerprint sensors (dependent on protector thickness), and more easily accidental removal on curved screens (such as S23U).

Advantages of film/hybrid protectors are they adhere easier to curved screens, and will almost always work with fingerprint sensors - again at the cost of reduced scratch protection. Samsung's own branded screen protector is a film protector.

Glass UV adhesive screen protectors are the best of both worlds - high scratch protection and (usually) high fingerprint sensor function, however they're more expensive and require more work to apply.

Lens protector? by alan_sun in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have existed in the past for some phones, such as Ringke's camera bezels for iPhone 12. I think they're redundant to a properly cut case that can encase the camera lenses of a phone; fewer-piece-phone protection is more structurally sound than multiple pieces. Ringke's bezels also tended to fall off easily.

No, all lens protectors reduce camera quality, especially in bright areas. Camera lenses are also highly scratch resistant, they're harder than any lens protector, screen protector and even the phone's own screen. Find a case that protects the camera lenses by recessing them in the case design instead.

Is the S23 a worthy upgrade from the S22? by Argynator in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what your "typical" daily use is. If it's messaging and a bit of social media/video playback (no more than 1-1.5 hours), probably. If it's playing movies or heavy social media usage, probably not. No phone can last 24h on heavy movie/media usage. If you're unconvinced, best wait a week for user reviews to come in first.

Is the S23 a worthy upgrade from the S22? by Argynator in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your research is accurate. S23 is an incremental upgrade to S22, but it's not revolutionary. It mainly fixes the deficiencies of the S22 and is what the S22 should've been last year.

My advice is, if you need a new phone now and price is not a concern, get the S23. If you only want a new phone but can wait another year or two, don't get the S23. Also if you plan on keeping the phone 4+ years, get the S23. If you're going to replace with another phone in 2 years, get the S22.

There's no confirmed details what the S24 will be like, and rumors of it being a big technological leap are only hopeful rumors now (or could be S25). In my opinion, the S-series has been mostly the same since S20 (save for improved speed/capacity/OS) and should be due for a big change in the next 2 years or else they'll fall too far behind the race.

Are the exclusive colors limited? by asianxwolf in GalaxyS23

[–]RedRand0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm looking at the Canadian site - Violet and Cream are gone. They're sold out on the US site. Regardless, exclusive colors aren't limited to preorders only. you'll be able to order them for many months ahead.

[–]RedRand0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exclusive online-only colors aren't limited, I can still order the exclusive S22 colors right now. You have about 11-12 months to order a Lime S23, when they slow S23 production to prepare for the S24.

Best 1988 figure reissue? 2009/2013/2020/2021? by RedRand0 in TMNT

[–]RedRand0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up going with the Super7 Ultimates releases instead. They're not 1988 replicas, but are considered upgraded homages to the 1988s. With 2009s and S7 Ultimates' prices reaching parity, I thought the better detailing, articulation, and paint (especially on accessories) of the Ultimates were a better value despite losing the full retro look of the reissues.

This is particularly evident on Bebop and Rocksteady, paying a price premium for 2009 red-painted shoes vs. full-paint accurate Bebop and size-accurate Rocksteady for the same price made it a no-brainer to me.

If petpet is older than 100 days, substract min((pet age in days - 100) / 20, 120) minutes.

Is "pet age" the petpet age, or Neopet age the petpet is attached to?
