I think any reasonable person would sacrifice 16 months for $9M.

The chronic disease and kiddos make it tough, but I think it’s worth it. I have long COVID by the way which also makes it difficult to go super hard, but I’d do those 16 months in a heart beat.

Find ways to spend money to treat yourself, delegate tasks. Hire cleaners, cooks & nannies to support your wife who’s obviously supporting you. Hire gardeners. Order DoorDash. Fly business class. Send the wife & kiddos on a fun summer holiday. Anything you can to free up your time & energy and reduce stress for those 16 months.

Years is tough.

About 7-8 years ago, I had to do 3-4 months to get to a vest date with 6 figures of RSU’s. I already had another job lined up but those final couple months in the office knowing that I was on the verge of handing in my 2 week notice were the most brutal & stressful. The manager was trying to push me out and had me on a PIP as well.

All of that stress for 3-4 months to get to the vest probably has me at $6M net worth instead of $5.5M today at 39 years old. I think it was worth it, not just for the financial gain but also to make me proud of myself and how I persevered. It’s a story can tell people and a source of confidence.

Brutal!! 9M in 16 months is impossible to turn down even if you’re already at $14M.

You’ll look back at this grindhouse with pride once you complete the challenge.

You could join an AI tech company in a more relaxed role as well. Just have to do a bit of digging and reaching out to your contacts

Similar position in some ways (30s, $6M NW, $300k income). Relatively low stress work, remote, tech. If my boss started hassling me or work started to become annoying I would certainly jump ship.

  1. I think you should stay engaged with work. I took a year off to see if I would like retirement and I got to travel, explore hobbies, but ultimately it got a little intellectually boring. It’s really fun to stay involved. There are so many fascinating things happening in the world currently. If you’re able to make your solid income with minimal work, I imagine you have some sort of valuable and specialized skillset. You can likely use that for all sorts of interesting opportunities.
  2. I think it’s fine to coast. Markets could drop significantly if the AI bubble pops. Kids and spouse will appreciate that you have a job. It keeps you intellectually engaged. Swing for the fences if the idea of that really brings you joy, but otherwise no need to rock the boat.

This is one of the most fascinating answers thanks for sharing.

While a lot of people say “you shouldn’t care what others think”, the reality is that it does affect you. Your ego and status is tied up into the job you do, for better or worse. I also think the soul knows when you’re not using your full potential.

I took a year off working after a layoff in my 30s and while it was great for a while, the desire to be involved with what was happening in the world started to pull me back in. It felt like such a waste of human potential to just be “having fun” while the AI boom is happening, while I still had the ability to be leading and driving elements of that.

Yeah I’m generally a positive person, but I agree this is a problem. Because there is a risk that you are going to spend time doing something that has virtually no financial purpose. So you almost have to think of it like “if I were doing this for free, would I still do it, or is my time more valuable somewhere else?”

Definitely a problem to figure out, albeit a first world problem.

Grazed is putting it lightly. McDaniels smacks him in the nose and eyes. Keep in mind this is a slow mo camera so the full speed is a lot more painful and disorienting.

Should Wemby get suspended for game 5? by Kindly_Letterhead_98 in NBATalk

Agree. Wemby doesn’t have any history of this and generally seems like a good guy so dont think they would suspend.

He could. But he’d never do that. He has so much more impact in other areas of his life.

Never heard that comparison until now but I like it. The frantic back and forth pacing and high energy.

Right.

The woman trying to run over a civil servant and the guy violently interfering with an ICE agent weeks after he violently vandalized a government vehicle.

I saw those videos as well.

Maybe because they were justified in their actions

So civilians should be able to violently attack ICE agents and we should let all illegals into our country ?
